If you know what this is already, scroll down and vote, as this is for those who are not familiar.
If you are not familiar with Transmogrification (or transmog for short), it is a system used in World of Warcraft and Diablo III. How it works is you pay the game's currency (In this case, Glimmer) in order to give whatever item you are wearing the appearance of another. For example: I would pay a small amount of glimmer to give my Grasp of Eir from King's fall the appearance of my Deathsinger's Grip from Crota's End. This would have no effect on any stats or perks, only appearance. It would be applicable to gear of any year, as long as they are blue rarity or higher. Applicability of Exotics would be a choice made by bungie.
This allows for players to get creative by going out and collecting various pieces of gear from old and new content, creating the perfect set for them, and giving the feeling of looking like a true evil mastermind, or a light, stealthy rogue, or a juggernaut armored with thick heavy steel.
My personal opinion is that it should not count for weapons but I know some will disagree.
Don't lie. We've all had that moment where we were sad to replace a piece of raid or other legendary gear because it just looked so damn good, or you found that one blue piece like nothing you've ever seen. The feeling is unavoidable. This would remove that, and open up countless opportunities.
Bored, but you've already cleared everything for the week or day? Go hunt for that sexy chest piece you saw that damn hunter wearing (which made you so very jealous.)
Cleared some old content for nostalgia or something you missed, and ended up getting something you think would be really nice with your gear? Use it!
Wanna see who truly is the sexiest guardian of them all? Have a gear contest!
The list goes on and on.
Of course I do not mean steal the idea or name, I only think it would be very nice to have a similar system available.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to seeing your opinions!

They already know we want transmog. The Infusion system is supposed to be a supplement for it.

Id rather have an extra tab in the character screen that allows you to equip whatever you want and overrides the look of gear equipped. So it look just like your current character screen but the 4 armor slots are just for appearance. If nothing is in those spots it uses your actual equipped gear as the image. Could be called "Appearance"

Exotic transmog is a no, they are the WoW equivalent of legendary(in WoW purple gear is epic and orange/yellow is legendary) that what makes them special
-
I want my plate of exile chest instead of the raid Titan chest look and I want my boots to look like peregrine greaves

This would be great! But just to show that is armor that has had its looks changed, maybe upon inspecting the armor you could see what the original armor looked like

It would be easier if they just upgraded old raid gear to 280 light/year 2 status.

i would love this

At first I thought this was going to be another microtransaction thing but I like the idea, I've played a few games that had this feature.
