Who here thinks Snipers take a lot of skill?
I keep seeing the people that snipe rejoicing over the removal of shot package, and I agree, it's something to be happy about.
But then, I keep seeing people saying sniping in Destiny takes a shit ton of skill. Time for me to post my rant about snipers :D
In many other games, snipers are primarily about long distance shots, and taking time to line them up. While it is true that some games promote the "rapid-fire CQC" kind of sniper rifle, other games reward you for lining up your shot, and you even have to do things like calculating bullet drop. In Destiny, however...aim assist is a hidden stat. That makes sniping ridiculously easy to do.
Just playing last night, I could hardly go anywhere without getting quick scoped by people running around like crazy with their snipers, or people just straight up camping (the latter of which I'm partially to blame for, because it took me a while to realize that they were camping). Not to mention, snipers are just like shotguns in that they can win you a fight you had no real claim in winning. Getting shot from a scout rifle/any other weapon to your head and all you have to do is swap weapons and do a quick scope which takes sooooo much skill (lol) and go back to whatever you were doing before.
Keep on sniping, I won't be crying for nerfs or anything, I just wanted to say that I personally find snipers to be a lot less skillful than people think, especially in Destiny.
I wanted to get an honest opinion from the community on snipers, too, so I set up a poll.

I think that if their was scope swaying or more recoil, it would make snipers take more skill.
As of now, you can effectively miss someone and just immediately fire a shot again without penalty...unless you're in a sniping duel, but then again, all duels are like that.
Final Edit: Where can I find a list of snipers by their aim assist? I've tried finding some, but they keep contradicting each other.

I mean, it certainly takes skill like all other guns take a form of skill, but to me, the sniping culture is highly overrated

I enjoy sniping and using shotguns, but shotguns have been out of control due to rerolling and shot package. I had so much fun shotgunning in the beta before shot package, blink, and high impact shotguns were prevalent. You actually had to be ballsy...

Idk but I played a match where this guy just camped in the middle of the map ads with his black spindle and had a clear line of sight to get easy headshots as soon as someone walked around the corner.

These maps dont allow for any true skill for sniping. This is a run and gun shooter and nothing more thats why all of the maps cater to that style. There is in NO WAY the same type of skill that applies in Destiny as there is in a game like Counterstrike, Arma, or even Battlefield. Everyone knows this, but the ones that dont admit it are in denial. Destiny is NOT a true shooter it has NO real life physics implemented, in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM is skill involved with sniping or any other combative element. Its an ARCADE SHOOTER, nothing more. But it is fun.

None of the specials take skill. Stop trying to convince yourself they do. And then there are the scumbags who quickscope granting them a free headshot from shotgun range and longer

I think it it takes more skill not to die by a sniper. I mean I see people all day rushing the same exact door over and over just to get their head blown off by a sniper that they know is there. I mean come on people go AROUND.

2 RepliesAll shooters on consoles have aim assist... Destiny, cod, battlefield. Out of the 2 other major fps battlefield takes the most skill. You want a realistic shooter go play battlefield

1 ReplyToo much aim assist on this game to call it skill It's slightly more challenging than other weapons, but Sniping on this game is easier than other games. The weapons on this game are pretty much designed for people that can't shoot properly and need aim assist and bullet magnetism to land their shots. As a decent player on this game and a better player on other shooters, i admit this. You cannot have pride in your sniping abilities in this game.

I only respect snipers who use guns and scopes with either no or very little aim assist. I got smacked so bad one time by somebody with no shortgaze or hidden hand, none of that. He had ammo perks on. He was a true sniper and he got a GG message from me, even though I was raging lol

If you've never sniped in Halo I feel like you gotta work at it a bit. It takes more skill to snipe in Destiny then it does in CoD

My favorite thing, getting killed by an Ice breaker in the crucible. Not. Come on Mr Mlg snipes, can't you use any other sniper instead of the one that causes targets to explode even if you shoot them in the body, leg or toe. It's pretty cheesy and stupid.

If you think you're a great sniper, take a common sniper into the crucible. If you're -blam!-ing shit up, you're probably somewhat a skilled sniper. -blam!- all these dumb final round target acquisition perks

Depends on the amount of aim assist really. There are some with ridiculous aim assist and others with hardly any

There are almost [i]no[/i] long sight lines. It's all cqc in comparison to other games.

5 RepliesTo be a good sniper it takes a lot of skill. But... if you used final round and now are using litc, then you suck. Aim assist doesn't help that much. I preferred the efrideets spear (10 a.a) more than the shadow of veils (69 a.a). Its whatever you like using. Aim assist does help in drag scopes, but you get use to a lower aim assist. There are very few to no situations where i say i wish i had more aim assist. People do better with higher aim assist because they think they can do better with more. All aim assit does is slow down the retical when its near the head. You cant count on aim assist to make you a good sniper. You need practice and skill to become good. There's more i could talk about but there are plenty of videos that would say what i would say.

It's a love hate thing. I love that if someone is rushing me with a shotgun I can land a quick sniper body shot, and follow it up with a pulse rifle flurry to the head. Hate when I'm on the receiving end.

Snipers do take some what skill but that depends on which one you're using if you the 1k stare that takes no skill because of the aim assist
