The Infamous Necrochasm.
Is anyone else completely pissed off by what happened with this weapon? Let me help refresh your memory:
1. We had to farm hive sword bearers for the husk of the pit.
2. We had to kill thousands of hive to rank up the weapon.
3. We had to run Cota as many times as it took til we got the upgrade item.
4. We got the Necrochasm and realized it was awful.
5. A short time later all Auto Rifles were nerfed, making Necrochasm even more awful.
6. Necrochasm was finally buffed slightly in update 2.0
7. The next week it was left as a year one weapon making it entirely irrelevant once again.
What kind of insane path is this for a weapon? This gun was the first of its kind, no other weapon at the time was even remotely similar in how you got it. And yet, not one guardian came even close to being able to even use it.
Edit: glad I'm not the only one. Also, yes I forgot to mention being required to rank up Eris to rank 4 While only getting 2-4 bounties per day. Lastly, I couldn't remember the exact number of thralls at the time but you're correct, it was 500 thrall. It just easily [b]felt like[/b] thousands.
Edit: Wow over 250 replies! Thank you everyone for your overwhelmingly positive responses. I can remember from way back at the Crota's End expansion that this weapon has been sitting in my vault, and I have just been waiting for this weapon's time to shine. Maybe it'll come sometime in the future, but I'm not holding my breath.

All that work just for it to get nerfed, the only time I used it was for arc modifiers after they finally buffed it...only lasted like 2 weeks until they decided to make it worse again......[/spoiler]

Always thought it was good and never bad (the auto rifle nerf made it harder to use but it still wasn't bad). I got like 10k kills with it, it's my favorite weapon I'm only upset that they didn't bring it to year two. Seriously the hard raid exotics should be in year two. Atleast I can still use it in reg pvp right?

2 RepliesIt sorta seems counter productive to make all the old content obsolete. I don't think they should make the old exotics upgradeable like the ones in the armoury. But they should make new versions of them, slightly different visual appearance and slightly varied perks that can be acquired in the old content, possibly through quest lines or special raid drops only accessible with the taken king.

Agree (I think) they finally got it right just in time to abandon it. I seldom did CE but eventually got the crux, was a surprise actually when I noticed it in my inventory. Lots of fun getting those headshots, and then TTK. I guess since they no longer care about elemental primaries it didn't make year 2. I wonder at the actual % of Destiny players that actually have it, certainly it's a minority and possibly that alone kept Bungie from bringing it to Y2.

chased it forever. Loved it. It sits in the vault. Life lesson on chasing items in this game. I know I learned it well. Now if something is cake to get or drops in my lap gee thanks if it is a pain in the ass I surely will not be having it. Why bother the game has about a 3 month turn over?

I love my necrochasm the way it is. It became such a novelty item because it was so bad. The only thing I want to happen is a year 2 version.

Bungie wanted to create a weapon that evolved. And they did. It started out as the Husk of the Pit, a pretty darn terrible weapon. Then it evolved into Eidolon Ally which was ok for an auto rifle, but better than its previous state. Then it became an exotic which (I don't have necro so I can't tell you for sure) was presumably better than the Ally. And then we have the nerf and it being left out from year two. That's natural selection. It was hunted to near extinction by the auto rifle nerf. The buff was Bungie (the rulers of their world) trying to save it from extinction. And then them not taking it into year two is them giving up on the dying species. And that my fellows, is the evolution (and downfall) of the necrochasm.

Hmm I was thinking maybe for challenge mode oryx,he will give us a quest where we fuse the necrochasm with the touch of malice into something more like a new exotic gun? Father finally gets to reunite with son ;D Don't hate me just a idea ;_;

1 ReplyI was actually using it in strikes even though it was far from worthy of an exotic slot. Even used it in the first part of crotas end. I got very lucky and got the crux to drop the very first crota kill, but I just loved the concept of the weapon. The did something like that with the Vex aswell. The Vex was OP, then got nerfed to unworthy of an exotic slot and the last week before the first DLC they buffed it and it got 20 damage more then all weapons I think 220 damage or something. Then the DLC dropped and it was on par again with all weapons at 231.
