Offer More Choices For Progression Paths

Hello, fellow guardians. There is a potential wall of text coming your way, but if you're looking for a TL;DR, you won't find it here. Please, either read the post or ignore it. Anyways, we are now three weeks into the Taken King expansion, and there is an issue that I think a lot of people would like to see addressed, or at the very least, acknowledged by Bungie. The issue I'm talking about is the progression requirements for the exotic weapons quests. Almost all of these quests require some portion of PvP play, sometimes with very specific playstyles, in order to satisfy the requirements for the quest. Some of you know what I'm talking about. Getting 25 sword kills in the crucible with a sword for the exotic sword quest, or the now notorious (un)Jolly Holliday quest that requires a certain amount of kills with the Last Word, while any death sets your progress back. A lot of people (myself included) do not enjoy PvP in the slightest. In fact, I detest any time I have to journey into the crucible because I'm not good at it and I don't care to 'git gud' at it, since it just feels like I'm hitting my head against a wall. I could hop into Crucible to try and complete one of these quests, and not see ANY progress whatsoever for several hours. What we are starting to see is a multitude of people flocking to Rumble with their friends and feeding each other kills or worse, hopping into game modes and not even thinking about playing the objective because there is absolutely no incentive to accomplish these difficult tasks legitimately. This ruins the experience all around, not just for people who don't enjoy PvP, but also for the people who do enjoy it, and get stuck with teammates that couldn't care less about playing the objective. I think this could have been thought out better. https://www.destinythegame.com/game
The next evolution of the first-person action genre that provides an unprecedented combination of storytelling, cooperative, competitive, and public gameplay, and personal activities that are all seamlessly woven into an expansive, persistent online world. Venture out alone or join up with friends. The choice is yours.
Now, I know that there are a few things in that quote that we could talk about, and Bungie has been lambasted over them time and again, but to their credit, I think things are going to get better as time moves forward. However, for a game that tries to pride itself on the multitude of choices in how we play, there seems to be a rather severe lack of choice. I suppose they mean that I can choose to not pursue the exotic quests, and not experience a pretty decent amount of content as a result of that. Content that Bungie worked very hard to create, with the hopes that everyone would get to enjoy it, but I digress. If you're going to advertise choices as a big thing for your game, that should be a prevalent feature THROUGHOUT the game. And the exotic quests should be no exception. My suggestion for making this experience better would be that, instead of requiring (sword quest for example) 50 major kills AND 25 crucible kills with a sword, it should be more like 50-100 major kills OR 25-50 crucible kills. For the Chaperone, there's a requirement to kill the Shield Brothers with a shotgun. What if it was 'Kill them with a shotgun OR get 20 shotgun sprees in the Crucible? This would offer many people the opportunity progress with their preferred style of play in satisfying the requirements for the weapon in question, while feeling like they accomplished something in the process. This is all just my opinion, and perhaps my approach isn't the best one. That's why I made a poll, to see what you guys think as well. The Feedback forum has become a festering cesspool for so much negativity, so please, keep the criticism constructive. Edit 1: Changed title to better reflect the content of the OP.

  • If you're not good enough to complete the quest, then you don't deserve the rewards.

      • Crucible player here. I'm saying that to tell you the jolly holiday quest is -blam!-ing terrible. They nerfed that gun into the ground. And I'm somehow supposed to go on killing sprees with it? All it takes is one bad team or game and you're down an hour of work. Its punitive and its unnecessary. I prefer scout and pulse rifles. I can't get past this danger close style of play especially considering the nerfs to the gun make it unable to kill shotgunners who have any semblance of competence. Any change to the bounty would be great. I know its supposed to be hard, but make kills count more or deaths less. Because this quest is just... Painful
