I don't know if someone pitched this idea before, but after blocking a sword swing from another guardian in rumble, then countering with my own, I was wondering how many others might enjoy a sword only mode.
Edit: Looks like there is some support for this. So far, criticism directed toward this mode has said it would make the exotic sword quest too easy and the bolt caster being a problem.
-A suggestion for the sword quest: tweak it so it works on a point system with kills in this mode worth half as much as kills in other modes.
Some suggestions on the structure of the game mode (this addresses bolt caster)
-Start with a set amount of ammo (maybe 15, depending on your sword upgrades). Adjust amount of ammo used by special swings (such as the disk of death from bolt caster and the upper cut from legendary swords) so they cant be used too often.
-Heavy Ammo should spawn every 2 to 3 minutes which gives players an area to try and control. Every player killed should drop ammo proportional to how much he/she had.
-As for grenades and melee abilities, I think they offer an alternative to the sword if you are out of ammo. But supers will get in the way, so I think trickle should be applied. Grenades and melee should still charge at a reasonable rate.
I was think this should be played in rumble or 3v3. Too many people with swords will probably be chaos

Arc Bolt would crush everyone else. No defense against the disc of destruction. Totally unbalanced.

Swords + Sidearms only anyone?
-
Sword battles... Kind of remind me of the old armour lock battles in halo reach
-
Would make the exotic quest too easy. I would love a sword mode though.
-
I had this same idea the first time I played mayhem

I think it would be funny seeing people hit each other with the sword's hilt, before the heavy ammo comes. Some of my favorite moments with the sword is when I was fighting another swordsman, and we both killed each other.

Nope. I would not want to give bungievision any reason, whatsoever, to develop yet more cqb focused map packs or playlists.
-
I'd try it out. Hell yeah.
