ORYX HEALTH CONFIRMED WITH MATHS!!! (Mistakes found but good estimate)

Hey guys, after being curious for awhile I thought if it was possible to survive the blights on the kings fall raid. I knew it wasn't an instakill since oryx didn't die but adds did. Surviving the oversoul on crota or the curse thing skolas gave only made me more confident and here it is. First we tried Armor of light + Blessing of light + Sword Block (Proven to stack) http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/IxI%20Crimson%20IxI/video/10995008 Once I had jumped out the bubble, blessing was gone. Then we tried Armor of Light + Sword Block http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/IxI%20Crimson%20IxI/video/10995007 We all had different elements for swords, none of us died proving it was kinetic damage. Then we were cheeky enough to try it sword only http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/IxI%20Crimson%20IxI/video/10995006 (Btw I have Max Armor) Finally just for the giggles, armor of light. (Really bungie!? A damn sword gives more DR than armor of light??) http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/IxI%20Crimson%20IxI/video/10995005 Anyways down to business. So what we needed to do was get these values are take them into PvP. First we needed to find out the DR % of a sword. My friend used his her benevolence on my in pvp. A Her Benevolence body shot does 167 damage. While when blocking with the sword it does 50. (Insert maths that I'm not bothered to type) The percentage difference is 107% Meaning that a sword grants the user 107% DR while blocking with a sword. If i'm correct, 1 armor = 1 hp so guardians can have 190-200 without extra armor perks meaning my titan had about 198 hp. Now we needed an attack which has a consistent value throughout PvE and PvP. My friend.. Shoulder charge. This does exactly 200 hp worth of damage in pvp which was perfect. We went specifically to the kings fall checkpoint (since the light level is at it's highest there) and used shoulder charge. (My light level is 306 so there is no damage penalty). It did 4734 damage. Now I needed to revert the value. 4734 x 107 (this is 107%) = 506538 damage I'm gonna go ahead and round that to 500000. 506538 would be correct.. assuming I had 200 hp which I don't I have 198. I'm quite confident the blight damage is 500,000 and as we all know. 4-5 sets is a win, you can only do it in 4 sets if you have enough damage. 20 Orbs indefinitely takes down oryx even if you aren't shooting him after detonation. 500,000 x 20 = 10 mil. I made this post to debunk all the people claiming he has "Billions and Billions of HP", shooting oryx after detonation can make that little difference between 51% hp and 49%. And no, guardians don't take 500,000 damage... it's obviously converted. Thanks for reading anyway, I'm no pro at maths, so if I made mistakes, please do correct me. :) Bump this please, the community needs to know! Edit: Finally trending.. yes....xD Edit 2 : For people claiming 107% would nulify all damage, I'll copy and paste this example. Think of it like this. 1.0 = No damage resistance. 1.5 = 50% DR which is like a quarter of damage negated.( if 50% meant half BDs could survive a GG shot) 2.0 = 100% DR, which is like all damage taken is halved It's a bit confusing to understand since the percentages don't work how they're meant to. Edit 3 (Final for today) : There seems to be a 2.07 issue, problem is when using this method instead of my one, the answer becomes unrealistic. If anyone is able to make sense of this that'd be great, for now i'll keep the 107 up. Edit 4 : I don't think theres a proper to convert PvP damage into PvE damage... it's a shame :/.

  • Why does Oryx have lower health than Golgoroth??? Golgoroth has 13,000,000 and Oryx has 10 mil???

  • 107% damage reduction.... That reduces the damage to a negative damage, effectively giving the enemy more health? Might wanna check that as said below

  • ...... might wanna try that math again %107 would negate all damage and give you a bit of health. %100 == all

    • 107% would be 167 (100%) + 11.7 (7%) = 178.7

      • Your math is incorrect, it is definitely not 107% damage reduction. A damage reduction from 167 to 50 is a 70% damage reduction. The damage is being reduced by 117 from 167 originally. The math works like this: 117/167= 0.70 (rounded to 2 decimal places) 0.70= 70% Thus that is a 70% damage reduction.

          • The maths don't really work out, but point gets across. He doesn't have that much health no. Golgoroth has "a lot" of health as well. Till you get halfway in two gazes and then it doesn't look as bad anymore...

            • Okay, there's some interesting ideas here, but you are badly misusing percentages and, as a result, the numbers you produce are meaningless. I'll try and break down your computations a little and show where your methodology is a little weak and where you've misused percentages.
First we needed to find out the DR % of a sword. My friend used his her benevolence on my in pvp. A Her Benevolence body shot does 167 damage. While when blocking with the sword it does 50.
This is nice, but there's a slight nit in that you only got a single data point. There are many, many lines which fit any single data point, so it's hard to be sure that there aren't other factors (maybe the shield works differently for other weapon types, for example). Also, you used an elemental weapon, would probably have been cleaner to use a kinetic primary.
The percentage difference is 107% Meaning that a sword grants the user 107% DR while blocking with a sword.
"The percentage difference" is a meaningless phrase. There's the difference which is 117 (167-50) and you can express that as a percentage of the original damage (117/167*100) which gives us a damage reduction of around 70%. It's possible that there are ways of combining these two numbers in a way that produces 107, but whatever it is, it's not a meaningful number in any way. Always show your working ;)
Using the shoulder charge was a really nice idea, by the way. There's a major and unsubstantiated assumption here that the damage systems in PvP and PvE are the same. That's actually fine in principal as the rest of our calculation can be viewed as a partial test of that assumption (if the number is incredible, then the assumption is likely wrong). It would have the unfortunate side effect that we wouldn't necessarily be able to trust any beliveable value. Fortunately, this doesn't matter as we shall see.
Okay, this is where you really misuse the percentage. Even if we had a percentage of 107, this is not a valid way of using it. Remeber that percentage literally means, "for every hundred" so just taking some number and multiplying it by the raw percentage is obviously wrong. It might have been right if you had multiplied or divided by 1.07, but that's not our actual damage reduction anyway. Let's see what we come up with when we use the correct value of 70%. We're assuming a guardian is killed by 4734 points of damage in PvE. If they can survive a blast with a DR of 70%, that means that the remaining 30% of the damage is less than 4734. Let's say it's right on the edge at 4733. If 4733 represents 30% of our damage then we can find out what 100% is by doing 4733/0.3 which gives us 15,776. 20 blasts would be 315,533 which is just a shade over Skolas' health pre-nerf. At that level, I would expect focussed fire from a team of guardians to have a very noticeable effect especially when High Impact snipers are doing 8-10K per hit. Even if we assume that guardians count as majors in PvE (not unreasonable) and have another stacking 50% damage reduction that only doubles the number to 631,066. That's heading in the right direction, but it's still seems very low given the observed health drops from gunfire alone. So, have we learned nothing? Not quite. We've learned that somewhere along the way, we have made a false assumption. Now, there are a few possibilities, but one stands out above the rest and that's the damage translation from PvP. I just don't think we can translate those numbers in the same way. I feel at the very least that Guardian to Guardian damage is much more impactful than Enemy to Guardian damage. It's likely that Crucible and PvE operate on entirely different damage models. It's also possible that the orbs don't hurt Oryx in the traditional way, but rather through some unique trigger which would render all this discussion invalid. I guess the only way to know for sure is to get a fireteam to down Oryx using only gunfire and anaylse the video capture to determine the damage done (would need to have each Guardian's viewpoint). Maybe Datto is up for a new challenge.

Here's a nice little feature that Bungie should add: When you bring up your Ghost, enemies in the screen will have a HP counter above them showing their remaining health and shield capacity.

That math is hella wrong....and a stack of 100% DR would be 0 damage period. There is no way around this. It's not a multiplicative buff. It's one single reduction. The DR of the sword is approximately 70%. Not 107. And when multiplying by percentages you change it to a decimal. It does not just become an entire whole number. And before you point me to edit 2 it doesn't work that way when doing multiplication. While yes it will work if all damage is determined through the same DR factor you didn't even account for it in your math for health. When using that version of reduction you would have to multiply it by 2.07 not by the percentage. This version of DR though is something known as decreasing returns. It is used to make something like 100% DR an impossibility as the more you stack the less it actually decreases. Though even using this method you did the initial math wrong. Using decreasing returns 167 changing to 50 would be over 200% in DR. As 50 x 2.07 =\= 167

I stopped reading when you said that 167 was 107% of 50.....107% of 50 is 53.5...try 314% (50+50+50+50(.14))=167...that's how percentages work!!!! However that's not even the number you are looking for if you are trying to figure out how much the damage is reduced by... 50/167=approx 30....so you damage reduction is 70%
