I've done it! I know how to fix the negativity issue in this community! Join me!

EDIT 3: I will put this edit above everything else because people appear to comment without reading this in its entirety. I do not discourage people from being negative. If you read on I admit to being negative myself at times and sometimes negativity is essential. The real problem members are the ones in the community whose sole purpose is to spread negativity and hate to other members. Keep in mind that a deeply positive player has the tendency to lash out at someone who has something critical to say. This is also a problem and discouraged. Please continue reading... Let me just start off by saying everyone is entitled to an opinion and has the right to be upset with a change Bungie is making or upset with a certain aspect of Destiny. These people are NOT the problem with the community. They provide feedback needed for Bungie to make positive changes and improvements to the Destiny experience. The problem with the community are the handful of members who constantly spread hate and clutter up these forums with nonsensical hateful posts and comments. The people who jump all over anyone who has something positive to say about Bungie or Destiny by calling them Bungie fanboys or whatever... The people who are "done" with Destiny but continue to post here. And the people who demand a refund for the game. (Side note... Demanding a refund for a game you play for many hours is like demanding a refund for a pizza you just ate. If it was really that bad then why did you eat the whole thing?) I digress... My solution is a simple one. It's utilizing a tool Bungie already has in place. The reason that the people I speak of that truly hate the game continue to post on here do it for one simple reason... They are immature. They didn't enjoy the game and they want others that do enjoy it to enjoy it less. What I have been doing recently is going on those members profiles, going to the top right of the page and muting those members. Instantly the forums began looking much less hateful and appear to be more helpful. Again not all members that have something negative to say deserve this treatment. I have had my fair share of negative things to say in the past and rightfully so. It's the players who do nothing but spread hate and negativity on a regular basis with nothing positive or constructive to say. My goal here is to get enough members of the community to do the same thing. If these members are simply ignored by enough people then they are not accomplishing their goal, which is to sully the experience of others. And if they aren't accomplishing that goal then they will likely stop and this community can be what it has the potential to be. If these members don't stop then at least you won't hear it. Favorite bump and comment if you like this idea. EDIT 1: I DO NOT discourage negativity and criticism! It is essential to improve the experience. The people I speak of lash out at members of the community that express positivity. EDIT 2: I am trying to increase the positivity in this community. That being said the other extreme is equally discouraged. Blind support is equally polarizing. Please be open minded and provide informed constructive feedback. Don't spread hate, or blind support. Although I will say that blind positivity is far preferable to blind negativity simply by nature.

  • There's a big difference between promoting constructive criticism and accepting negativity. Negativity is all around bad for the creative process. I don't consider constructive criticism to be negative at all.
