Something to consider if you are thinking of buying the 1TB version.
Sony updated the PS4 to the (CUH-1200) model changed some of its internal components that make it lighter and more energy efficient. http://youtu.be/qZK_goyXGpQ
The 1TB model uses the old model (CUH-1100) it's internal components are less efficient which with prolonged use, can overheat. [i](This has been reported by some PS4 owners).

This post was originally intended for people who were thinking of buying a PS4, I didn't have those that already owned one in mind.
However If you already own one or are thinking of buying a PS4 (500gb) instead, you can swap out your internal hard drive quite easily. You can fit a compatible hard drive as per the information from Sony. It doesn't break the warranty if you fit one.
Sadly there is no external hard drive support currently.

I've had the console for about 15 months, and I can categorically say that I've never known it overheat The same can't be said for my 360 - those disks get really warm very quick, hence the fact I'm on my second 360 after my first suffered the dreaded RROD after only a year, then again nearly 3 years later after repair. Though I've known people get through as many as three 360s until Microsoft finally made them more reliable
