The Titan of Luna (Destiny Fanfiction)

With the Taken King coming out so soon I wanted to write a story about Crota before he fades into the past. This story is based on a mixture of lore gleaned from grimoire and in-game content, combined with my own speculation and ideas. I guess I'll get right into it. The chapters are pretty large so I'll put each one in it's own thread and use this as the contents page. Extra Note: There are some quotes in the story that have been taken from the game, bonus marks for anyone who can find them all! Prologue: Bracus Thro'oaun Optional music (1:14:44 to 1:19:10) The red dunes glistened in the morning sun and for a fleeting moment, there was peace. Then the crash of dense metal and reinforced polymer as two cabal legionaries thundered past. Their breathing was heavy and erratic, their thruster packs had run dry and they had been forced to make a dash across open ground in a desperate attempt to escape their pursuers. They didn't dare look back, their heavy armour made them slow and the two soldiers knew it wouldn't be long before the enemy was upon them. A rising metallic drone rumbled through the dunes and the cabal knew their time was up. One made a grab for his radio as the noise grew louder, he wouldn't survive but reinforcements would reach the commander in a matter of minutes and give him a fighting chance against the attackers. “Enemies advancing! Crisis level delta!” He barked into the device. “Bracus Thro'oaun insecure. Request immediate retrieval, heavy air!” A deafening mechanical hum to his left and the legionary looked up just in time to see a pulsing ball of flame heading towards him. He let loose a defiant cry as the grenade latched onto his armour and detonated, incinerating him and his comrade in an intense burst of solar energy. Eriana-3 turned her eyes back to the path ahead and pressed down on her sparrow's accelerator, leaving the two cabal in the dust. A second guardian pulled up alongside her and Eriana could feel her friend grinning through her helmet. “That looked badass! You might give me a run for my money someday!” Shouted Wei Ning over the low rumbling of sparrow engines. “Who's to say I don't already? You know there's more to combat than punching everything in your way.” Replied Eriana, her robotic features stretching into a rare smile. Wei chuckled. “You're the warlock Eri, get back to me when your books and research have found something better.” She sped on ahead, leaving Eriana to her own thoughts for a second. It was a good a point. Though reckless and sometimes downright suicidal, Wei Ning was one of the most powerful guardians the tower had ever seen. Eriana had fought alongside her on many occasions and there was definitely more to the titan's success than blind luck, she was a natural in close quarters combat and more importantly, could wield her light to its maximum potential. “That legionary back there called for help, we've got dust giants heading on an intercept course for the Bracus. If he gets one foot on a harvester this mission is a bust.” The words brought Eriana back to reality, Wei was slightly ahead and looking back at her, waiting for a reply. “If we're fast we can kill Thro'oaun and be out of here before reinforcements arrive, he's not getting away again.” The two guardians accelerated and set off across the red wastelands of Mars, their sparrows going at maximum speed. The cabal knew they were coming and had set up a crude ring of defences in a small clearing up ahead. Eriana could tell these were desperate attempts to stall them but even so the cabal were crafty and charging in blind might not be the best course of action. She began formulating a plan when a tap on her shoulder interrupted her thoughts. Wei was right in her face, grinning madly, their sparrows dangerously close. “Watch this!” Said the titan as she stood upright, balancing precariously on her still moving sparrow. Eriana knew it was pointless telling her to wait and pulled back to a safe distance. The smile on Wei's face was gone now, replaced with complete concentration. Her sparrow neared the barricade and the cabal let out a rumbling battle cry, firing their slug rifles through narrow slots in the armoured wall. Heavy munitions filled the air but Wei kept on coming. Eriana stared in disbelief, at this rate she was going to slam headfirst into the wall! A stray shot hit the thruster on her sparrow and it faltered, moving erratically from side to side but the titan kept herself steady. The stress on the engine was too much and it burst into flames, setting off a series of small explosions down the length of the sparrow. It seemed Wei was about to be killed by her own vehicle but at the last second she leapt into the air and threw herself at the wall. She clenched her fist and it began to crackle with arc energy, the cabal kept firing but the power radiating from her body formed a protective shield and the rounds bounced off harmlessly. Wei struck the wall with the force of a fallen walker and it buckled instantly, metal shrieked and groaned as it bent inwards and snapped under the sheer power of her attack. She tucked her head forward into a roll and landed neatly in a mass of mangled steel. She looked up and smiled but it quickly turned to a frown when she saw the explosives lining the insides of the wall she had just crashed through. She had just enough time to turn and face Eriana before she was engulfed in a fierce explosion that rivalled her own attack moments before. Eriana instinctively raised her hand to shield herself, she was sure even Wei Ning couldn't have survived such a blast and her thoughts were confirmed when the dust settled and her friend's body was lying broken among the wreckage. Cabal phalanxes advanced cautiously, looking for signs of life. When a psion emerged and confirmed Wei's death the cabal cheered and raised their weapons triumphantly in the air. Eriana shook her head in amusement, would they ever learn? There was a blinding flash of light and Wei Ning was back on her feet. The psion cried out in panic as she thrust forward, caving it's head in with a single blow from her fist. The phalanxes quickly formed an overlapping wall, their shields so thick even Wei couldn't break though. But in a moment the titan was soaring over their heads, a shotgun held firmly in one hand and she made for the middle of the group. The cabal were quick but she was quicker, ducking and weaving in between the shields as she struck at their exposed backs, each roaring clap of her shotgun signalling the death of another soldier. Suddenly cabal started bursting into flames as Eriana made her entrance. She glided gracefully in and out of combat, her feet barely touching the ground as she moved through the chaos, raining fiery death on anything that got in her way. She caught sight of Bracus Thro'oaun, who was holding back from the battle and flanked on both sides by a pair of hulking colossi. She readied her pulse rifle and fired a burst at him but his shields absorbed the impact and he took cover behind his guards. One fired a barrage of missiles in her direction but she was ready for him and sent out a whisp of flame that intercepted them mid-flight. By this time Wei had finished with the rest of the cabal and joined her friend against the colossi. “I'll take the one on the left!” She cried as she charged forward. The two cabal raised their enormous weapons and let off a torrent of heavy munitions that would have made short work of any guardian. Eriana took cover using the shield of a dead phalanx but by this point Wei had already closed the distance and she took the barrel of the gun in an iron grip, bending it upwards. The weapon fell apart in a spectacular fashion, rounds detonating inside the weapon and shredding it to pieces in mere seconds. The colossus huffed angrily and tossed the weapon aside, ready for hand to hand combat. His armour was thick and it would take the titan time to wear it down, whereas he could end her with a single well placed blow. Wei stood still, her palms open and he took her inaction as hesitation, launching a rock shattering punch in her direction. However she simply ducked under the blow and put her hand on his helmet, channelling a terrific amount of arc energy directly into his head, frying him to a crisp. The other colossus turned from Eriana to avenge his comrade, she lowered the shield and with all her might she sent a burst of flame into it, sending the heavy chunk of metal straight into the cabal. He stumbled and Wei took the chance, laying into him with a rapid flurry of blows before quickly backing up before he could retaliate. Eriana blinked in surprise, the attack had been fierce but she could see no lasting damage on the colossus. The cabal laughed at Wei's pathetic attempt when suddenly he exploded in a spectacular display of oil and blood as his armour de-pressurised, Wei had known what she was doing after all. Suddenly there was a deafening rumble of engines, the two guardians turned their heads sharply to see Bracus Thro'oaun boarding a harvester. He jeered at them as the ship rose slowly into the air. “Not this time.” Eriana muttered under her breath. She felt light flowing into her palm, she clenched it into a fist that began to simmer and glow. Her hand burst into flames and she condensed the energy into a blazing ball of light that she launched at the harvester with incredible ferocity. The grenade caught on one of the thrusters and erupted in a wave of intense heat, melting it on the spot. The harvester swerved out of control and crashed into a nearby hill. “Yes!” Cried Wei triumphantly, her fist striking the air with a crack of lightning. “I really thought we'd lost him then, great work Eri! Bonus points for style!” She grinned and ran up to Eriana, giving the warlock one of her signature hugs. Eriana gasped as she felt her body crumple slightly under the force, had she not been an exo she was sure Wei would have broken her ribs. Continued as a reply
