Buy The Taken King or quit Destiny ultimatum

Final edit: patch notes state clearly, in order to lvl past 34, the taken king is required! So there it is! Luke Smith tell us that until we beat Oryx, we won't have access to endgame content. But he wasn't specific about whether that meant completing the raid or finishing the story campaign. (Edit: edge magazine article states clearly that it's story campaign that must be completed. Not a big surprise, but at least that's cleared up) Either way, he just through down the gauntlet for many a guardian! Edit : here's the quote "Did we mention that you’ll need to confront the immediate threat first? Oryx lies between you and these challenges. You'll need to survive his wrath to partake in the new endgame." Edit 2: if you don't buy TTK, you can't defeat Oryx. If you can't defeat Oryx, you're locked out. Get it? He most likely meant completing the story campaign. But if you don't buy and play that, well then. Edit 3: it's a new beginning, remember? Edit 4: though it may be a difficult concept to grasp, there are players who have not preordered TTK. As well there are those who aren't going to buy it. Their concerns are no less valid than someone like me who is buying it. Luke Smith needs to clarify his comments. Edit 6: why is it that I can write in clear and concise english, yet have so many people not understand a single word? So now I'm complaining apparently. Or people want to play content they didn't buy. You've got to love the assumptions being thrown out. No friends, no one is asking to play content they didn't buy. Only the content they already own. I can't believe I actually have to type this for all the stupid people in the room. If you are locked out of the daily, you can't play existing dailies and get the rewards from that. If you can't play the existing nightfalls, you can't get the rewards from that. If you can't play the new version of weekly strikes which may contain existing strikes, you can't get the rewards from that. Are you guys paying attention? There are players who aren't going to buy TTK but still want to play the existing content they already have. IF YOU ARE LOCKED OUT OF THAT CONTENT BECAUSE YOU HAVEN'T PURCHASED AND PLAYED TTK, THEN LUKE SMITH NEEDS TO CLARIFY THAT! Edit 7: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/150010570/0/0 Edit 8: we now have a more complete idea of how players who do not purchase TTK will be affected moving forward. They will not have access to the daily heroic or weekly nightfall. They will only have access to the legacy strike list. Why is that? It's simple. They won't have enough light. Because the light requirements for daily, nightfall, and new vanguard strike playlist are only achievable through taken king gear. Soooo....because they changed the leveling system and light requirements for daily, nightfall and strike playlist, you either buy TTK or you quit.

  • The writing was on the wall from the minute Bungie began detailing these widespread changes. Either they continue to support vanilla (along with TDB and HoW, which are really no better than vanilla now) on the dime of DLC buyers, or they shut out year one players altogether. There's no winning here; either the DLC buyers or those content with the base game will be shafted. DLC buyers become disillusioned seeing the tiny amount of content they're actually buying OR base game owners are completely turned off from the franchise as their purchase is ripped away. Bungie needs to seriously reconsider their update model.
