The Traveler… Forgive me as some things are not fresh in my mind and I may unwittingly leave some things out. I have been out here for so long and I fear I do not have much time. Here is what I know. I have reason to believe that The Vex are, at least in part, aligned with the Traveler in some way, possibly even its creators. It seems far more likely however that the Vex may have been one of the first races conquered and subjugated by the Traveler. The time travel and teleportation technology of the Vex would have been invaluable to the Traveler allowing it to leap back in forth through time and space. In the end it doesn’t matter which is the case the results are the same. They arrive at new worlds and either transform it into another Vex machine or they bring the inhabitants to the edge of total destruction. Once the race has been all but annihilated; The Traveler appears and “destroys” the force that threatens that world and offers it protection. The people rejoice, praise and worship the Traveler for saving them. Since not much is known about the origins of the Traveler we can only speculate. But one thing is clear. The traveler is not what it appears. With regards to the Fallen, the Hive and the Cabal, It would appear they know something we do not. On every world the Vex inhabit they fight, they resist. It would seem that the guardians are the only ones the Vex do not actively seek out. They of course fight when they are confronted but from what I understand the death of a Vex is much different than the death of a Cabal for example. They are a hive mind and the bodies can be remade or conciseness transferred. I believe the Vex only fight to gain information. I do not believe a Vex death has any consequence. They fight to gain insight for future attacks on other worlds. The Hive, being arguably the most powerful of the three, had sent a great force, Crota, to destroy the traveler. Unfortunately the Guardians killed him before he was able to complete his mission and have now incurred the full wrath of the Hive. With Oryx and his dreadnought on his way, my hope is that he will succeed where his son has failed. Unfortunately, I fear, this may lead to the destruction of the Guardians as well. The Speaker…was created to communicate on the Travelers behalf and through him we are assured of The Travelers benevolence. We are told of an ancient darkness that has followed The Traveler seeking to feed on its light and destroy it. But what do we really know of these other races and why would they go to such great lengths to destroy it? If the traveler freely gives its protection why would any race need to capture or harness its power? The Speaker tells us that these other races are evil and they only seek destruction and death. If I may quote the Awoken Queen, “Often when we guess at others' motives, we reveal only our own.” I believe the Traveler seeks only destruction and subjugation; I believe it feeds on the life of the lower races that worship it. I have very good reason to believe that the Black Garden itself is the heart of the Traveler. Perhaps the Traveler is just a vessel for the evil that lies within. Guardians… you were given untold powers from The Traveler to protect and “free” the realms of the Darkness; to be the light where there is only black. But I fear you were misled. I fear you are the foot-soldiers of an evil of untold power waging war on races who only seek vengeance for the destruction of their own worlds at the hands of The Traveler. If anyone is listening…please… The Traveler must be stopped; its reign of evil must be brought to an end. Find Crow, he will…

  • in an older version of the destiny we play now, this was actually part of the plot and probably the reason why, in early concept art, the black garden looked like the inside of a big orb.

LOL. nice. But yes, many believe something along these lines from playing the game without reading the internet or the background of the Destiny release. I know I did. Especially when super early into the game the Speaker says (approximately) "Oh I could tell you about the old wars and how the darkness was there, but screw it... just fight for the Traveller" And when the Queen's brother laughed at us when we didn't know where the Heart of Darkness was. Or random quotes from The Stranger. But nice job making a little head-cannon piece.
