End game content post TKK

It's been discussed a dozen times, but i can't find an official answer to this in regards to year 2. So here goes (lets try and keep this thread civil): Will optional matchmaking be available on all end game content post TKK? I can't see any reason for it not to be there already and no one has presented a compelling argument against it. Hell, Bungie's own rhetoric boils down to "we don't think players should be able to do that", usually followed up with "there are LFG sites you can use to find fireteams". Which is confusing because accepting the need for LFG sites to match make games is the same as admitting that built in matchmaking is a required, and missing, feature.

  • Try this for an experiment: Sit down to do a raid. If you have some friends, join a fireteam, but leave at least 3 spaces open. Go to one of the lfg sites. Filter it so you find people looking for raids. I would allow for filtering of your local area and language, since that would probably happen if there were optional matchmaking. Now pick the 1st how many people you need for to fill your numbers for the raid. No cherry picking. If you and you're buddies are already hunters, you have to take that 1st guy even if he is a Hunter. That second guys doesn't have a mic, but knows what he's doing, take him regardless. The third guy hasn't done a raid before but is super good in Crucible, take him. Next one claims to have beat Xylar, gotta take him. Fifth guy has a history of going afk, take him. That is how the matchmaking would work. It would be even worse than that, because the people that go on the lfg sites generally have mics, know the strategies or will admit if they don't, and will have the time commitment to do a raid. The only way I could see optional matchmaking would work is if it's set up the same way the lfg sites are set up. You post what activity you're looking for, what cps, whether you have a mic, level, etc. But those sites are already out there, and I don't see Bungie spending the extra time to do so, especially since the community seems pretty divided about having optional matchmaking in the game. Would be awesome if that system was in place, but that's the only way optional matchmaking could work, and the lfg sites are already doing it. Another note: even though some people abuse it, would you want to give up the ability to boot the annoying/arrogant douchebag to have matchmaking?

  • It won't happen and here is why.... If matchmaking were to be put into raids, it would stop community solos and challengers, who do challenges in the raids in their spare time that they come up with (Datto, Tfue etc). The only way to counter this would be to make it optional, which would be pointless as the best raiders and most raiders will still use LFG for fear of matchmaking with scrubs... this defeats the system being put into raids as it would be full of morons, children and people who don't even speak your language. Matchmaking for endgame content will never happen, this was announced waaaaaay before the game existed and if you can't be bothered to use an LFG site then why are you even trying to raid in the first place. Raiding requires (unless you have OP skills like Datto) teamwork, knowledge of mechanics and commitment... commitment as in, the commitment to stay in the raid and keep trying even if you wipe. Randoms quit quickly after dying during boss fights, most of them won't even know the mechanics as they aren't using LFG like normal raiders and if you wipe once, expect to see people quit and then your entire matchmade team follow suite I mean.... who wants to wait 5 - 10 minutes for a random to join who might be even worse than the guy who just left? It isn't -blam!-ing logical to add any form of matchmaking to endgame content. The LFG sites are safe, in the clear with Bungie themselves and provide you with a way to not only matchmake with certain people of certain ages, you can also hunt down specific classes and even look up peoples stats, gear etc before you raid with them. Raiding needs commitment so if you can't be bothered with LFG, you obviously cannot be bothered with raiding itself (LFG is 5% of the Raiding experience).

      • Bungie has no legitimate reason not to have in game optional matchmaking. This game has no defined roles and the end game content only takes one or 2 runs to understand what's going on. Also long term it kills content. On games with matchmaking you just questions up a raid if your bored, and if your way above level and have done the raid multiple times, that just makes it better for the players that are new to it. Oh, and people need to stop being stupid optional matchmaking wouldn't stop YOU from being able to use lfg sites. So shut the -blam!- up.

        • Never will happen. If you go into the strike Playlist and see the rest of your teammates AFK, you'll understand why.

          • No optional matchmaking, ever. Why? Bungie doesn't owe you an answer. Deal with it or quit. Actually, go ahead and quit - this game's going to flop. Taking away players' gear? LMFAO - TTK is not an expansion, it's a damn robbery. I guess the DLC title is fitting for Bungie's corporate agenda as well. Rake shit and f*ck players over. Seems legit...

          • There has never been a valid reason for matchmaking. It all comes down to the user being a lazy ass. They said from the beginning that there would be no matchmaking for end game. That was announced before the game was even released.

            • Also, the link in this post is a very well written and argued discussion for the need for matchmaking. It articulates all my own thoughts on the matter much more eloquently than I could.

No. Bungie has said millions of times that matchmaking will never be coming to raids in destiny. Their reason being they don't want to match you up with 5 kids who have never run it before.
