Year 1 Armor / Gear - Compromise / Social Slot

Good afternoon, Let me start off by saying, that even though I read the forums quite a bit, I'm an extremely rare forum poster, due to having a quiet-nature personality. I've been with Bungie.net going on about 8-Years now, and it's been a hell of a ride that I plan to keep on riding. The main purpose of this post is to acquire clarification. Now, to get to the topic at hand: Year 1 Gear (Particularly Armor) Bungie, you've said it many times yourself, that Destiny has been about customization, and wanting to achieve that certain character look that you enjoy and strive towards. I could be wrong, but I didn't hear anything mentioned in the stream about Year 1 Legendary Armor itself being up-gradable to have the same defense values as the new Level 40 Armor, similar to what was done with House of Wolves with Etheric Light. Infusion seems like it's going to be a different ordeal. In order to upgrade old Exotics and such, you're going to have to hit Level 40 in order to get the stronger Year 2 Version, and in order to get legendary weapons to their peak, you'll have to go through Infusion. Now, I can understand Year 1 Weapons (Legendary, anyways), being swept under the table to make room for the newer weapons coming, and I know I'm going to miss sporting my Fatebringer and the joys it brought, and again, I realize you want want to push people to move onto getting into Year 2 and acquiring it's gear, but armor is a different matter. Armor is what makes up your character and it's uniqueness, and sets it apart from other characters. I myself have grown very attached to my outfit, and I really, really don't want to have to part with my Iron Regalia Vestments on my Warlock, which are no longer obtainable with the introduction of Iron Breed. So, to get to the simple questions: • 1. Will you be able to upgrade Year 1 Legendary Armor, to have the same light / attribute stats as Level 40 Armor? Compromise, if not: A Vanity / Social Slot for each category (Head, Chest, Legs, Class Item), that will enable you to override the appearance of newer armor, with the cosmetic appearance of your old. • 2. Will Year 1 Raid Weapons become obsolete (Fatebringer, Crota Weapons, ETC.), because there is no way to infuse them? Compromise, if so: Either put in a Expert Mode for the Older Raids (Level 40 Version) with Level 40 Variants of old raid weapons, or allow old Raid Legendary Weapons to have the Infusion Option alongside Year 2. This will stop the old raids from dying completely. We paid for the DLC Content, there's no reason to kill it completely. • 3. Referring to the previous question, if it's the latter and the weapons / armor can't be upgraded, wouldn't that essentially make the first two DLC's, and their Raids, completely obsolete? What would be the point in paying for them at all, if so? On the topic of the Vanity / Social Slot, if it were to be implemented, it could enable you to cosmetically wear a full set of exotic armor without breaking anything in the game, due to it being only vanity. This could not only appease a lot of people and fix the issue of people wanting to wear Year-1 armor without being penalized, but could also open up a whole new world of outfits and customization. If anybody can clarify, that would be splendid. Feel free to post your two-cents on the subject, or post opinions on the matter, but try to keep it clean. Thank you for taking the time to read my post. See you on Destiny.

  • Great ideas, I absolutely agree with everything you said. I wrote a post on this too, but I like your compromises. Thank you for being smart and reasonable.

While I fully agree with your point of having more customization and visual diversity, I do not agree that transmorphing is the right way to go because of below point: * Being able to alter the appearance of your armor to a different style would cheapen the feeling of getting the armor that actually have that style to begin with. * It would be impossible to know what other players are really wearing at a first glance. * Transmorphing does not suit the Destiny experience. Instead I propose this instead: *Make Year 1 armor upgradable with either Etheric Light or a new currency when TTK have been live for three months. This way the player will have an incentive to try out the new stuff, but can go back to their older gear if they like. *Have the vendors change the style of armor they sell every once a week. The stats and perks may be the same. Make more use of low-level armor styles. With above idea we will stay faithful to Destinys grind-esque gameplay while still getting visual diversity.

    • Thank you all for the support. It's much appreciated. Hope to see some changes, if not right away, that could possibly implement some of these ideas, as they could not only drastically improve aspects of customization, but could also appear people who have been here from the start and have grown fond of their old outfits. ^_^

    • I've been wanting new raid levels each DLC to make the raids a lot more up to date. But personally I don't mind leaving some armours behind to get new ones. Your vanity slot seems like a great compromise for the changes. Even then I feel that class items and ghosts should be more to do as vanity items than status changing. Having the perks such as material gathering and exp gain is really good for them, as it brings them into being somewhat more important. But the status change on them makes them just another piece of armour which the player would get penalised for wearing their favourite VoG or common ones.

i can't offer 100% clarification but to my knowledge all year 1 gear will have to be replaced completely in TTK due to the armor / attack values being 2x the value of the old gear (if not more). some exotics are getting remade into a new version of themselves, an example being suros which was showed in the stream and is getting a make over and some different perks that will fit in line with the new weapons (like the brands or w /e they are calling them) now this could change, although i highly highly highly doubt it ever will untill 1 or 2 DLC from TTK, and what i said could be made into pure nonsense. i would however love if they added a cosmetic slot to gear or something similar, i don't care to change out my gear, but i love my warlock VoG gear, in my opinion i've not seen a set of gear that matches it ascetically. but at this point all we can do is wait and see, and make opinions / options that people can agree on and be happy with known to bungie in hopes that they will, eventually, make into a actual thing. even if my inner cynic is screaming at me while i type this.

I like the Vanity Slot idea. I too grow attached to the look a certain armor set can bring. I still wear queens guard robes for my warlock. Also, I still wear rare quality Manifold Seeker I chest plate just because it looks great! BUMP

      • Solid ideas man. I really like the idea of the vanity slots as I'm quite fond of the Iron Banner cloak I have for my hunter. And also, if they are dead set against allowing the old weapons into 2.0, then I like your idea about raid weapons as well. I am afraid, however, that if they chose this route they would make "Year 2" variants and completely change how the weapons work, like the stats they showed yesterday with Suros Regime Year 2, or nerf them outright because they (Bungie and whiney tykes) think they're OP. Or they could simply let us infuse the old raid weapons into the new weapons and carry over a single perk per same weapon type sacrificed, for example snipers buff snipers. Also, I would either like a shader slot for my ghost, or allow my guardians shader to effect my ghost's color scheme. Otherwise everyone will end up having the same three ghosts ion the same three color schemes.
