To Rebuild. [Destiny story by video game writer]

[TRANSLATOR ACTIVE] Walking, she couldn’t get rid of the smell. Thousands of slain brethren. Those she knew, those she cherished. Looking up, she could no longer see the Traveler as the smoke pillars reached to the clouds, covering the wall from sight. Dead Fallen and Guardians lay scattered to the horizon, all with lifeless eyes. She couldn’t recognize some, as they’d been so badly dismembered from the artillery fire. “I have to push on” she thought to herself, holding the bullet wound to her leg. Limping, she fumbled over bodies. Attempting to reach the wall. They had charged with the attack, but it was too late for most. Many had fallen, many had perished. She was one of the few to live. “Wa… Wait” one of the injured called out to her. She turned to look down, seeing one in her unit, injured, but still alive. She kneels down, lifting his hand from his stomach, revealing a bullet wound too severe to fix. “Look at me. You’ll be okay” she said. “Don’t lie to me. I know I’m dying..” he responded, handing her a pin with a marked symbol on it. “Just do one last thing for me… Take this to my young one. I want her to have it, so she doesn’t forget the day i fought for her”. She looked upon the symbol, and nodded. In that instance, his eyes fell away, disappearing forever. Standing up, she looked upon the aftermath. “What happened to us?…” She thought to herself, She looks beyond the wall, watching the Traveler. “We did nothing to it, and yet it brings upon our destruction. We lived peacefully until it came along and destroyed our home, our land, our people”… Anger and pain filled her heart. She began to pick up the pace, taking the pin and putting it into a back pocket. Her mind racing, she begins to limp faster. Until suddenly, she hears a noise to her right. She stops, seeing something out of the corner of her eyes. Turning slowly, she meets the eyes of a Guardian, a Hunter in all white, holding a hand cannon aimed directly at her head. The Guardian’s cloak drifted in the wind, carrying the wolf symbol upon the center. They looked at each other for a moment. Realizing she had no chance to survive, she dropped her gun, now at the mercy of the Hunter. “I surely thought I was going to die” she said, he young ones looking in shock, “but what happened? How did you escape” her youngest added. “She let me go” The Huntress waved her weapon at her, giving her the chance to leave. She looked upon the huntress, realizing that not all of those who defend The Traveler were consumed by it’s corruptive light, “It was at that moment, I knew we were fighting the wrong people, and trying to make a home on the wrong planet” She told her young ones. “That’s when I left. Took a ship and met with Drakinish. We recruited those who felt the same way and came here”, “Will you ever go back?” her oldest asked. “No. Not while we rebuild. We will follow in the footsteps of those before us. We will find a place to call home, a peaceful place, and build a new place for those like us to stay. For those of us who are tired of war, tired of calling those ships home, tired of killing many for scavenging. A place where we can raise and grow” The Baroness then looked up to the night sky, the multi-moon system of their current planet on the outer edge of the Solar System hanging in the balance. “The House of Rain will survive once more”. -Written by Gage Allen
