DeeJ explains to IGN why TTK won't let you upgrade your year one legendary gear
Deej talks about why Bungie decided against upgrading year 1 legendary weapons at around 9:15 in the video above.
"In The Taken King, we are delivering to the Tower the largest arsenal that this game has ever seen," Deej said when asked about the choice to prohibit upgrading of current legendaries. "That includes Destiny Year 1. New weapons, new Foundries of weapons, Hakke, Omolon, Suros. Customizable, upgradeable... That's the Destiny experience: 'I have a new gun that I'm upgrading, awesome.' It's the act of discovery that makes being a Guardian interesting, and we're leading people down that path again... When you see Oryx, it'll make Crota seem like a distant memory of a fonder time. You're going to need more powerful weapons to meet these rising threats, and that's the experience we wanted to give people in Year 2."
But Deej also promised players that their favorite weapons won't become irrelevant after the expansion launches. He said that there are still plenty of situations where they can be used effectively. "If you love your Fatebringer, there are still a lot of great places you can use it," he stated. "In normalized Crucible [competitive multiplayer], where power is on an equal playing field, your Fatebringer is still going to be a force to be reckoned with. There are still patrols where it'll be relevant, obviously when you go back to play the old raids, it'll be time to dust off that old Vision of Confluence... There's always a perfect tool for any job in Destiny. So those Year 1 weapons are absolutely going to be relevant, don't dismantle them, there's still going to be a time when you need to use them."

That is a very political way for bungie to say they messed up at the very beginning and made weapons that were far too powerful.

My only question is, the old raids are gettin harder and probably will match tge lvl 40 but the guns and armor of the raid are year one what will happen to them

I don't mind more and stronger gear, that's how its suppose to work. I do mind however, completely making weapons and armor over the past year unobtainable and modifying a good majority of them and their perks for worse.

Necrobump. I like the part where deej tells us there is tons of awesome new weapons, then proceeds to tell us we can dust off our raid gear to do old raids. Excuse me bruh? Why would I do that if I have all these awesome new weapons I could use instead? That's literally the same thing as telling us to go run restoration lvl2 if we wanna have fun with our prized khvostov.

5 RepliesHi guardians! I recently saw this post. And know how Bungie works, they probably won't read it and it will go away. So I'm going to paste it in a new post. If you support the cause, copy this post and paste it in to one of your own!!! So that eventually (and hopeful) Bungie see's this. Well here it is! :) So, Destiny is almost a year old. I started playing with the Beta, left after TDB was released, and recently returned. I am primarily a PVE player, but will take a turn in the crucible for a change of pace. I, like a lot of people, feel that Destiny year one has been a beta test. If Destiny year two is better that year one, I may be able to get over it. The games shooting mechanics are still a lot of fun. Everything else is pretty much a hot mess. From lack of story, multiple currencies, lifeless environments, heavy grind, confusing advancement requirements, to all the issues with PVP, Destiny has not been a user friendly product. I would like to see more done to compensate year one players. I want to know that Bungie appreciates my business, and all the work we have done testing Destiny. Right now I am not feeling the love from Bungie. I am for ascension of legendary gear. I do not accept the argument of "this is an MMO, so get used to it". I find that to be a defeatist statement. The entire point of giving feedback is to make the game better. Just because something works one way in other games does not mean that is the best way to go forward with Destiny. I would encourage Bungie to find a better way . Do I want to use the same gun for 10 years? Maybe, I don't know. I do know that I want the option to use my legendary gear, and be effective, if that is how I want to play the game. I would like to see bosses that are more than bullet sponges. Make encounters that a memorable and interesting. I want missions that more than my guardian fighting bad guys while Ghost does the work that moves the story forward. I would like to see more environments. There has to be more to earth than Russia and The City. Heck, I would like to explore the city, and see what my character is fighting for. Some in game method of building a strike team for Raids and other end game content. It makes no sense that I have to use fan sites to find a team. The game should make it possible to put a team together for any activity I want to participate in. More customization options for characters, please. Alright, this post is long enough as it is. Hope that Destiny is better in year 2. Have a great time out there guardians! And be sure to bump! :D
