Gameinformer the Heartbreaker: Goodbye Year One Gear!

So this is an example of Bungie's continued bad game design, lazy programming, and their new solution to vault space in the fact that they are making everything in year one irrelevant and pretty much forcing us to dismantle old stuff for new "better" stuff. Well, I might as well hop on Destiny right now and dismantle all my gear and not touch the game until the DLC comes out. GG Bungie, you know how to make bad game design even worse. What's the point of selling the first two DLC's with the TTK if they are going to be irrelevant and useless? The article says the loot treadmill is similar to an MMO. Any MMO I have had played has a HUGE loot table compared to Destiny's tiny loot table with limited valuable perks and gun types and differences. Any other MMO makes it extremely difficult to get legendary let alone "exotic" weapons and armor as compared to Destiny's easily obtainable loot and on top of making year one guns meaningless they are now making loot easier to get since the drops will be modified via your inventory. Why would someone buy the collectors edition and waste their money to get the first two DLC's if they are meaningless? If the solution I have seen to the old raids it true, then year one players are going to have to regrind to get year one guns in the new difficulty setting on raids that will be up to par with the new weapon ranks. To top everything else off, making year one legendary weapons and aromor useless deemed patch 2.0 irrelevant since we have no idea what the new weapons are going to be like. Patch 2.0 doesn't even make sense now; if we kept year one guns then it would make sense, but now that Felwinter's lie is going to be useless what is the point of reducing shotgun damage and range when Bungie could program all future shotguns to have an extremely low range stat cap. WTF!? My suggested solution to this issue would have to implement leaving old weapons behind as the old DLC's were released. It would have been simple to made old guns irrelevant right away so Guardians would expect something like this to happen, but instead Bungie gave Guardians the hope that they would be able to hold onto those year one guns forever with the first two DLC's and the ability to level them up to the new weapon caps. Etheric light should have never been introduced and the HoW weapons should have made the previous weapons useless, introducing the need to rid yourself of old gear. So the current solution to the problem would be to leave year one weapons and allow them to be upgradeable. If the new weapons are truly better than the old ones, then the Guardians should see the value in the new weapons instead of them being forced to render their old guns useless even though the new guns may not actually be better than year one guns. So now instead of giving the Guardians the choice of keeping year one gear, they are forced with a choice of evaluating the ENTIRE game and determining if it is worth playing or not.

  • I played my share of MMOs and with absolutely no exception with each expansion the level cap is raised meaning you have to grind to the new cap then acquire new legendary gear to compliment the new cap. This is no different. It's the same concept modified to fit within the constraints of this game's design.
