Gear Augments

Well title says it mostly but I will explain. I would like to see a major overhaul in how armor and weapons play their role within destiny. As it stands there is only a small basket to choose from as far as armor and weapons are concerned because the only gear that is relevant to currently leveled guardians are pieces that keep your light level up to the current ceiling and weapons that hold the maximum damage output. This is very limiting in terms of customization. The bulk of players carry the same weapons and armor as one another and no one guardian is very unique to another player. Once a new level cap come out everyone gets there by attaining the same small selection of gear that allows them to reach said cap. A good way to change this would to re hash the upgrade system by changing the way you go about making a piece of gear stronger. Instead of each piece of gear having a pre determined upgrade path allow players to upgrade their gear the way they want to by augmenting them with various parts and pieces that grant a perk. This could make every weapon and every piece of armor relevant regardless of player level. It would make for a more robust and unique guardian build across the board. Of course exotics, being completely unique in their own right would remain unchanged and would not be allowed augmentation. Furthermore the perks that are unique to exotic gear would not be found elsewhere. An example if need be, would be finding the augment you want out in one of destiny's activities, or even scrounging the right parts to create an augment (similar to an exotic bounty). There could even be exotic augments (unique from the perks you find on current exotic gear) that could change a normal piece of gear so drastically that it would then make said piece an exotic. This could be anything from a scope for a sniper, a rail piece for an auto rifle, a visor for a helmet, a pistol grip, a gun barrel, a wrap for gauntlets, and the list could go on. I feel there is almost no limit to what could be done with this kind of upgrade system and if it were to be implimented it would allow for a game teeming with variety. Just imagine that every piece of gear you could possibly equip your guardian with was, in some form or another, modular and customizable. People would truly make their guardians their own and invest LARGE amounts of time I doing so. This would also give the game much more longevity as people would really begin to feel a closer connection with their avatars and want to come back even if only to tweak their builds or the look of their guardians while they wait for the next DLC to drop. Lastly I know this would require a large amount of time to complete in terms of development, but a lot of what would be needed already seems to be built into the game. I remember watching Bungie at a GDC event in the last few years where they showed off the modular way they are able to build weapons and armor within the engine. This tool set is part of there proprietary software of course, but we have seen plenty of games make use of developer tools within the final product for player customization in the past. Most notably in my memory is Neverwinter Nights and Farcry. Well anyways I just wanted to share my vision of a better Destiny, and hope that it inspires the community and the Bungie team to consider the possibilities of customization within it. Thanks
