Cheesing raids vs Doing them normally

Cheesing raids rather than doing them correctly is something some of my friends have being arguing about recently, and I just wanted to share my opinion with the community and see who agrees. I am someone who has played destiny a lot since launch, and done most of the activities consistently throughout that time. If you're interested, my gamertag on XB1 is "rangersfan6823". While I have cheesed raids before, and I completely understand why people do it (i.e. Time constrains, inability to form a full fire team, etc.) I don't not understand why raids must always be cheesed or done the "easy way". As someone who has raided many times, I can confidently say 80% of my encounters with the oracles, templar, and bridge section of crota have been sniping from the back of the map, just because my fireteam won't agree to do it the correct way. Like I said before, I understand if someone has work in 20 minutes and needs to get it done for the week, then by all means I am willing to do it the quick way to help a buddy out. But for the people who cheese it every single time, why even play if you don't want to do it the correct way? It's very irrational to have done something dozens of times and not even want to try a new way (which happens to the be the correct way) And isn't it more rewarding to get loot from doing the activity in a challenging and fun way? To me getting a fatebringer from an awesome battle on the bottom with the Templar where everything is going crazy, seems a lot cooler and more rewarding than getting a fatebringer from sniping him from the top and sitting in the same spot the whole time. And my last argument against cheesing is that it doesn't improve your skill as a player. If you rely on a cheese, one of your teammates, or some broken tactic to get you past everything, there will come a point where the game will create an activity or mode that can't be exploited, and you will be screwed for all the times you sat in the back and just waited for the rewards to come to you. This is just some food for thought, I know I'll probably get a lot of backlash but comment and let me know what you think. Thanks for reading.

  • Run Crota 37 times now and I still don't know how to do the bridge without cheesing, like does everyone on one side have to die while the guy with the sword is across in order to get enemies to despawn and get ogres to spawn?

    • I have done vog n crota numerous times properly However if it's with a party of ransoms or have little faith/little time I would encourage cheesing. Easier to stay topside n snipe oracles n cheese bridge rather than waste time. The proper way is easy when u have a decent team. Few free to add me On both 360/xbone

    • I hate CHEESE. Its become a problem....some people don't even know how to do the raid legit . I for one hope the patch all cheeses so the cheesers get a one way ticket to strugglecity

    • I've done nearly 200 raids now. I will openly admit, I will cheese the Crota bridge every time I play it. Not based on lack of skill, but the fact that I no longer play with full teams. It's normally a 2 man team or a solo. And honestly, even with a full team it's just tedious extra work. Some people just don't want to listen and cooperate. Yea, it's more fun to do it the real way, but it's kinda whatever. Whatever get's the job done at this point in me playing.

      • Now that we are all above the level cap of the raids, it is actually quicker to do it legit than cheesing. Doing it the right way is also muuuuch more fun. People in my clan already "complain" (with a wink) that they have to do it the proper way with me on the team. I just want to make sure that new group members or people who haven't raided much before, experience the mechanics and the fun that is doing it properly. Even if they are dead and have to watch from their screen, at least they learn. I always say when we have inexperienced and new players on board: let's give it at least 2 tries doing it properly, if we have to wipe, that's ok. We can still cheese it if necessary (which in most cases doesn't happen) I came across so many people that have never done the bridge, and were surprised how much faster the right way is. And more fun too! Think about it. In the time one or two warlocks snipe across the bridge you can do the whole encounter properly twice. Same for oracles and Templars, it's actually quicker doing them legit than sitting on top of that boring rock. I'm not against cheesing at all. I just appreciate it when we try it the proper way first. And surprise- it usually is quicker anyway.

my opinion on it is this: if you can consistently do it normally, go ahead and do it the easy way, just for the sake of time. in some cases (crota's end bridge section to name one) its just easier when dealing with people who don't understand they have to stand in a circle... somehow, when i figure out how that makes sense i'll tell you. but honestly as far as VoG is concerned the oracles are about the only thing you can "cheese" and have it be slightly easier than doing it normally, i think its more fun to do it normally and i've actually seen alot of people agree, but everyone else is lazy and would rather just sit in 1 spot and not deal with the adds. at this point in the game, i don't care much anymore, rather just get it done than fight with people who'd rather be lazy than have slightly more fun.

        • In my case, after doing them 60+ times they can get somewhat tedious. I want to get the possible exotic drop then go back to crucible/trials.
