Malphisto's Version of Destiny - Part One (General)

Destiny Re-Imagined... Folks may recall that I am an Indie Game Dev, and I have given considerable negative feedback regarding Destiny and the current state of it, in all respects including its horrible pricing. You have seen a lot of hate from me, cold and brutal opinions and reviews. But now I think its time you get something positive from me instead. Something Bungie won't have to look at and automatically dub it as more beating of a dead horse from that Malphisto guy. That dude is such a jerk, right? lol As such, I have taken the time to bring my own brand of game design to Destiny, with an outline of how I think the game should play and ideas for how to change it up for the benefit of everyone on both sides of the fence. And so I give you Malphisto's Version of Destiny... Characters: Players start the game by crafting their Guardian. This part of the game remains as is, however each race has its own key defining benefit. "Exo's Metal Frame"- Increased Defense and Endurance. (Can take more damage before dying) "Human's Survival Instinct"- 15% Grenade and Melee Skill Cooldown Reduction. (Stacks with similar perks and stats) "Awoken's Soul Harness"- Increased Damage while Aiming Down Sights for all weapons. (Stacks with similar perks) Character Creation opens up more options, including sliders for a 100% unique appearance for each Guardian. An NPC Vendor can be found at either the Reef or in the Tower who sells accessories that can be worn while in social areas. Examples include Sunglasses, Eye Patch, Cigarette/Cigar, Visor, Hats, Piercings, etc. Players can also use these vendors to change their character's appearance whenever they want for a cost in Glimmer. Social: Every social area is filled with objects and furniture that can be interacted with, allowing Guardians to actually sit down on chairs, benches, etc. Voice Chat will be enabled so that players can freely communication using a microphone if they are within distance of each other, with the option to switch "Chat Channels" to better control who they can hear and who can hear them. Going hand in hand with objects that can be interacted with, players can find certain "Play Rooms" in the social areas that offer mini-games that can be enjoyed using Glimmer. Some games are played solo, while others can be played with a friend. (Idea inspired by the "Gold Saucer" from Final Fantasy 7) Winning at these games will net players "Game Points" (GP) that can be redeemed at the nearby vendor for prizes. Players can also enjoy "The Barracks" which is essentially a Housing System. Each Guardian is given a small room at the start, free of charge, however they can choose to "Upgrade" using Glimmer to get larger spaces which offer increased Vault Space and facilities. Details below... "Standard Housing"- Free for all new Guardians. Comes equipped with a Private Terminal for players to access their Grimoire Cards (Game Codex) and a Vault Terminal to manage inventories. "Funded Housing"- The first available upgrade for Guardian Housing, costs Glimmer to purchase. Comes equipped with a Private Terminal, Vault Terminal with expanded storage and Personal Workbench that allows for Weapons and Armor Modification. (More on this down below) "Elite Housing"- The final upgrade available for Guardian Housing, requires Glimmer to purchase. Comes equipped with Private Terminal, Vault Terminal with more storage that can be further upgraded at the cost of Glimmer, Personal Workbench, Item Fusion Mixer which allows players to toss in any three random items to make a completely new random item. All Guardian Housing options also allow for decorations which can be purchased with Glimmer from a vendor, including many different kinds of furniture that can be interacted with. Players can also decorate their place with various medals/trophies earned from the Crucible or by completing various challenges in the game. In addition, players can set their personal space open to others to visit, allowing other Guardians to enter your room to hang out and make use of the various features. (Privacy Options let you change this so no one is allowed in, friends only or anyone can enter so long as they know your name) Players can also drop off messages with or without gifts that will be there for when you return to your room. Finally, players can also trade items freely with one another or put their items up for bidding at the Auction House. Matchmaking Simplified: You never want to break the immersive element of a game, especially an MMO. So instead of players having to rely on third party websites to look for a fireteam, players can easily access the "Squad Request Board" at the Tower and in the Reef. This board allows Guardians to start a Fireteam and advertise it in the exact same way as on the DestinyLFG site, except you aren't having to go on a computer to access it and can easily manage your group listing while in the game at anytime. Players can then join your Fireteam automatically from the board, provided there is still an open space. At which point, the Fireteam Leader can remove their listing from the board or leave it on there in case someone in the team isn't working out and needs to be replaced or someone leaves and they need a spot filled. Matchmaking for all PvP in the game remains the same as is. Weapon and Armor Overhaul: You ever pick up a Green or a Blue weapon or piece of armor and think to yourself "wow, this looks pretty friggen cool." But you're level 20 so what's the point? They just get trashed. Well, not anymore. Now, you can take said item to the Mechanic in your preferred social hub area and have them turn it into a skin for your desired weapon or armor piece of choice. You'll lose the item you're having turned into a skin, but its appearance will replace any Legendary item or lower while still keeping the other item's stats and perks. Or you could dismantle them, and along with getting glimmer, get ACTUAL PARTS. Yes, legit parts for both weapons AND ARMOR. Both weapons and armor are composed of core components which determine their various stats and perks. You can break them down and use these parts to modify anything with the exception of Exotics, or you can build your own from scratch and even name them with custom descriptions. You can then choose to keep these or trade/sell them to other Guardians. This also replaces "Reforging" as this setup actually gives players much more greater control over the kinds of properties, stats and perks that their gear has. Crafting and Modifications can be performed at a Workbench for free or for a small cost at the Mechanic Shop located in either the Tower or at the Reef. Story Choices: After the Black Garden, Crota, Skolas and the Taken King... Your Guardian will set upon a new quest, a task given to you by the Queen herself to investigate the actions of her brother, Crow. He has been operating in secret for quite sometime following the destruction of the Black Garden and she needs your help to uncover why. This will lead you through a series of events that will ultimately reveal the horrible truth of this new world you were reborn into. The Traveler is a false God, the true source of the Darkness itself. That is the secret history that was erased in the collapse. To restore order, a clever lie was fabricated by those in positions of power, a conspiracy maintained by the Speaker to trick the masses into worshiping the Traveler as some sort of savior. In the end, you are given a choice. Either disregard what you have learned as lies and continue to serve the Speaker and the Tower. OR... Become a rogue Guardian and accept the Queen's offer to fight on her behalf and for the Reef instead. Depending on what you choose, your Guardian will be given an entirely new storyline to play for the remainder of Destiny. This effectively DOUBLES the amount of playtime for everyone as you now have more options available to you, and much more content on a whole, not to mention legitimate replay value as you can go through on a different character and choose the other option instead, to enjoy BOTH stories with two different Guardians. This likewise ties heavily into PvP and PvE, which will both be detailed in their respective sections linked below... • Destiny could really benefit a lot by just having a simplistic version of the dialogue wheel from DA and ME. Just having some type of interaction with NPC's where we can choose what we can say would give the game that RPG feeling that while it is there, it can boost it a lot more. I really like the idea of playing a rouge guardian, a guardian that questions everything, and tries to find the truth about what's going on. Nothing wrong with our guardian who just stays quiet and follows orders, but having that choice of not following orders or taking orders from someone else, can give the game more replayability. I also would LOVE the idea of doing or not doing certain things in the game that would trigger different things happening in the game world or even NPC's that would only show up when you do something special. Think of Dark Souls for this idea. In that game you interact with npcs that would either help you or fight you. In Destiny some NPCs can assist you in a fight(story mode SP) or hurt you by not helping you find a clue to something or even sell you that item you wanted, unless you help that npc with what they seek. None of this stuff has to be as deep as those games I've mentioned, but enough to breathe more life into it. Branching paths in any game is always good because it keeps you playing to see/unlock the different possibilities presented in the game. Mini games are welcomed in the tower for those that are just killing time in the tower while they wait for their friends to get on or waiting for IB or Trials. The point is too keep us engage in the game.:)

    • I liked this a lot. Would take a big budget to develop though. With how popular Destiny is, and a big "gap" in features, I wouldn't be surprised if some other companies out there are working towards a similar game and addressing the gap like your post. I believe it's actually a big money making opportunity - if Destiny still has big "gaps" when those similar games come out, a lot of players would most likely switch given that players have little loyalty to Destiny (due to feature gaps and Bungie's pricing strategy). Hope Bungie actually works hard and implements a lot of these ideas - because honestly, Destiny could have been so great. It's sad that from such a big budget, what we got at launch seems so measly and lacking. Where did all that money go?

For armor there is: Armor part Modification part Enchanchment part For weapons like rifles, there is: Barrel Crystal (changing the color of the shots you fire) Modification part Enchanchment part So lets say you found a cool looking chest armor, but your current chest armor has more stats. Well no worries. Rip those parts from your current chest armor and put them to the armor you just found. You get exact same ammount of stats, but the armor is more cool looking. This system also allows you to wear things you want. If you are bounty hunter, you can use jedi armors (when you put your parts in to those jedi armor pieces). This system could work in Destiny too.

                        • So I'm concerned from what I've seen. I was showed the interview between Polygon and DeeJ and what he said during the interview. That they only seem to discuss threads that are trending on here. So what does that mean for all this that I have written? That was at the top of trending and highest rated and then just abruptly vanished? Not getting pushed back, just flatout gone. There are many others as well facing the same problem.
