New found respect

I've always been a PVE player and with ToO coming out I thought I'd give it a try. I just get destroyed, my K/D is dreadful. I can't even get the armor. I know I'll get told to git gud, but anyone who's been to the Lighthouse, well done. I'm never going to see that place. Edit: I'm amazed and overwhelmed by the comments, never thought I'd get so many (even trended for a while!). Sorry i can't reply to everyone Found out a few things since I tried IB. 1. I'm a Mida man 2. It's actually quick to get Bad JuJu and Invective!!(had the crucible part of those bounties for months) 3. Don't run at someone if they have thorn 4. If you have a super, chances are someone else does 5. If a warlock is mid air, things usually turn purple 6. If you miss the heavy ammo drop, hide Edit 2 - More tips from the community 7. If a Titan is running at you, leg it, you're about to get pelvic thrusted off the map 8. Also leg it if your health is low 9. Got LMG ammo, camp it out till the rockets have finished flying 10. Practice, then practice more 11. If your losing, switch it up 12. When someone's level pulses yellow, their supers ready, so back up Edit 3 - I've had a few PMs from people offering to help which is amazing (didn't intend for this being a recruitment post). But anyway I'm on X1 and my GT is the same as my name here.

  • Appreciate your honesty. I play a lot of Crucible, always complete Iron Banner on all three characters and have very respectable k/ds (1.25 to 1.5) but have never played ToO. I don't think I am ready for the "show," I will stay in minor leagues... Lol

My advice. -Practice at "elimination" with a solid team of friends, religiously. -every loose will show you a path, something you can also do or use. Advices I got from a leaderboard friend. I m still training my skills to get to the lighthouse as well.

    • As soon as you hear somebody say "so what map is it this week?" And it's Sunday. Leave the group.

    • Tip Play with people that know what they're doing, this makes winning so much easier.
And don't EVER trust random teammates, they're always terrible
• If you like mida, try a pulse rifle with perfect balance. A fully upgraded VoC is awesome as well.

        • Adapt adapt adapt that's all I have to say about that because everyone is usually sniping and using a last word or thorn. Using a shotgun with blink will get you to them faster than they can shoot but soon things will change as they always do

Dude it'll happen, don't stress. I'm awful at crucible too occasionally. And those tips do help. Don't sweat it, you'll find a good team and get good gear. And it all comes with experience. If you are a bladedancer Hunter, blink can be your best friend. Can allow you To get around people to better areas and then finish them off/get revives. Be careful when blade dancing if not running hungering blade, or in general because thorn+thorn+thorn=wasted super. Team shots are deadly. No real tips for gunslinger, I don't run it often.

        • Something you should look out for is if their level is pulsating yellow, it's so you can tell if you can play more aggressive or expect them to pop their super in panic or to take down your team quickly. I've been using grenades what can target or pulsate so you can stop them charging you or if they are camping around a corner. Warlocks are lucky to be able to make their grenades burn so you can tell if they are running away to get to safety or still waiting there. I won't say "git gud" just use your arsenal to your advantage. And play safe. Once they get too used to you playing safe play aggressive and catch them off guard. Take care.

          • I'm not the best PvPer but I know if I play with similar levelled players that I'll get there, I may take two-three cards but I know it'll happen. IMO, Trials is great fun and I haven't had as much fun in Destiny since the early VoG days. If you want to get to the Lighthouse then you will and the best advice I can give is this: 1. Find two other players in the same boat as you who are willing to practice and improve on the same timezones. 2. When Trials is on just go in without any boons and slog it out until you have to stop. As they say, you only improve by playing against people better than you. 3. When Trials is off just go in to the Skirmish or Elimination modes and practice. It works better if you're with the same 2 so you can then work on communication & teamwork. 4. Find out what all 3s strengths and weaknesses are and the strategies which work best for you. 5. Make sure everyone learns how to give and take constructive criticism whilst focusing on the shared goal. IMO this is the biggest obstacle to overcome when playing with new players as it's only natural to get defensive and let egos outweigh rational thinking.

            • I always play PVP and will still never make it to the lighthouse xD I am good at killing people, but not that great at staying alive, but better than I used to be . My huge tip is ...be aware of your health and if you are close to dying, juts run the f-uck away .....

You're not missing anything really Jewel of Osiris sucks. The Scholar is way too slow for my liking. The Messenger.. Overrated as Hopscotch Pilgrim or Spare Change.25 is slightly better In my opinion the only thing worth much is: Silver Package (Chance at an Exotic) Gold Package (Chance for an armor piece or weapon) The Rocket Launcher is probably the best weapon from all of them lol..

                • To add to the advice: - a players level will pulse yellow when they are supercharged, possible indicator to get out of the way asap if a Titan/ warlock - if you're running a LMG, pick up the ammo and then crouch and camp a corner until all the rockets are gone. - Titans running at you with a primary = likely shoulder charge/ FoH - Learn the sounds of all supers, especially 'slayer' supers (blade dancer, gunslinger, stormtrance and Sunbreaker; when they are released) and watch the biotin corner to find out which team. - a skilled sniper is better than a shotgun, allows you to quickly shut down all manner of nastiness at range Ask me any questions you've got and I'll try and help!!

                  • If a titan is running at you he either has a shotgun, a super ready, or is building up speed for a shoulder charge.

                    • I was horrible at pvp when I started. I've went from. .36 kd to .90 It's far more challenging than pve. You have to bulldoze into the action to get good. Most of the action is at b zone on most maps. Don't really play destiny much since I got bloodborne.

                    • The funny thing about going flawless is after you get to 9-0 and your go to the lighthouse, it's nothing to do there but get a chest... That's it. I was kinda disappointed after I grinned to make it. But I'm always trying to go back though. I don't know why lol

                          • Don't worry it's cool and all but it is really lacking. The place is tiny, empty, and just boring. It's cool the first time but once you make it it was kinda a let down. IMO..

                            • I feel ya. Trials can be brutal when you are up against well organized, talented teams. I can barely get the armor, usually get 5-6 wins on a card. I don't know how to get better. It's not like I'm really bad, just dreadfully inconsistent. One round I'll be the best in the match or kill their whole team, and the next I'll sure instantly and or repeatedly.
