Where did Destiny fail to meet your expectations?

Not complaining, I'm 100% satisfied with the game, but for those who are unsatisfied with the game what about the game failed to meet your expectations? A few points so I don't repeat too much... 1. I agree that the story was nonexistent, but I think that was because of the MMO aspect were they didn't put a lot into it because the focus was supposed to be on the gameplay instead of the story. It's not supposed to be like Halo where you play the game straight through like 20-30 times. So explain why the story failed you or how it could have improved the game for you. 2. The game tried hard to combine three different genres into one game. So try not to view it through the lens of one in particular (how it fails as a RPG, but not as a MMO, for example.)

    • Story was very disappointing. Loot system sucks. I'm grinding for items that becomes useless every few months with the next dlc. Weapon balance. The good things destiny did were very good gameplay mechanics. Vault of glass was amazing.

Let me 1st say I was in awe of the game when I 1st started playing and right off the bat I was having serious fun. The 1st failure for me, I recognized within the 1st week while playing with friends. The failure was the loot system. Now I will admit we have seen many loot mechanics and honestly none of them are perfect. However, Destiny and they way it suppresses the gear development of unlucky players, really stood out as one of the worst at making me feel bad when playing the game. I did not catch up to my "lucky" friends until VoG was launched, and I played as much as they did and in some cases, I had much more play time. Once we were rocking VoG, once again my lucky friends were racing far ahead of unlucky me, so Destiny continued to deliver on the bad loot experience. The 2nd failure for me has been Xur not selling Gjallarhorn but one time in week two of the game. Given the importance and team psychology of this weapon in RAIDS, players who have been grinding for months without a GHorn drop is simply ridiculous. Xur is supposed to help balance this important shortfall and for whatever reason, GHorn no longer drops from XUR, and for too many players GHorn is not dropping in the game either. The 3rd failure, which honestly takes a while to really develop, is vault space. Players eventually are required to disassemble far to many items. Items which in many cases may have taken 2-5 days to level up with bounties. Items which may have been great fun to use, or armor perks great for running patrols. Given the vast storage space made available in other games, the lack of storage space is unreasonable. The 4th failure… no short cuts for switching weapon setups. Really? In 2015? The 5th failure… NO Customer Support. Accidents happen and every once in awhile a player could use some help undoing a mistake. Again, Really? in 2015? Bungie is not capable of supporting the player base with some form of account snap shot to allow for account recovery? Of course such a common played support mechanism would require Bungie to have dedicated customer support staff, which costs $$$, and is probably at the root of there being no player support. The 6th failure… is kind of the next logical question when you think about the lack of funding for player support… why did TDB & HoW have to cost $25 each and TTK $40-80? Bungie is not spending the money in the game, why do they need more, so much more? Is this other stuff we need coming and contingent on Bungie getting more of our money? The 6th failure… TBD/HoW… maps in reverse? Do I have to go any further on this one? I mean common… $25 for TDB is a lot of money and Bungie you really look pretty greedy giving us new missions with just current maps in reverse. When it comes to the story, IMHO Destiny started with a decent story with lots of potential for story expansion. When it comes to grinding, most of these types of games have way too much grinding, although some hide it better than others. Destiny is just average IMHO at how it presents the grind. Honestly, grinding is not what made me grow to hate Destiny… but once I became unhappy, the grind also became more frustrating. IMHO there is still hope for Destiny as far as my interest and willingness to play. However, right now, I have no interest in playing or buying TTK. Getting me back playing and playing as much as I did last fall, is entirely up to Bungie. As far as my current expectations…. I have no expectations. I don't believe Bungie is going to change anything I hate about the game, and like many others who have stopped playing, I have been making other plans. Like so many who have stopped playing yet continue to contribute on the forums, I still care enough to express my feedback, in hopes it will contribute twosome changes.

      • Lack of content, lack of story, lackluster dlc that was mostly cut content that they charged another $40 for, and mainly the fact that it's such a repetitive grind. Since there is so little actual content it wears thin really fast, the game just has a hollow feel to it like there's so much more it could have been. I've still enjoyed playing with friends, but at this point i'm not sure it's worth sticking with it anymore.

I don't like the non existent story. And it's just so repetitive. I bought the season pass, and I don't play anything in HOW, except for trials. And lastly it's just a really expensive game Edit: and I forgot, they keep adding DLC but they won't even acknowledge the current problems. They said they were going to fix the hand cannons in a weekly update 7 months ago! I still don't see a fix

honestly, I had none coming in since I didn't follow the game at all but complaints would be: -linear and repetitive missions: everything from story to Strikes is go from point A to point B, with no variance in objectives or paths. Plus you are always just shown where to go so there is little mystery or exploration. This becomes esp bad when these missions are meant to be repeated over and over. It becomes going through the motions. Let me get lost a little man.. let me explore and if you want us to do these missions so often add some choices to be made or split paths at the very least. -entirely RNG based loot: let us actually earn something. The Exotic Bounties are decent but far too few. At the very least add some weight based on performance. these are the two biggest ones. Not the only ones but if I could channge anything I would make it these. I have to say I still enjoy Destiny, I'm still playing it after all.

Frankly, its easier to tell you what Destiny did right. At least it'd be a shorter list. -Skyboxes. -Basic gunplay -Raids Literally everything else was shades of either lackluster to outright 'wtf is this shit;' The story. The mostly barren environments The loot system. The unbalanced as -blam!- multiplayer with too few maps The entire light system The strike playlist suffering from the same level of meager offerings as the MP maps. Materials Fixing 'bugs' because people were playing in a way Bungie didn't intend. Treatment of vanilla players. Locking off content that was clearly meant to be in at launch - INCLUDING the third subclasses. Useless vendors And that's not even starting on the debacle that is community management.

      • I read about the story and there was all this amazing stuff and the e3 2013 trailer. (Day 1 player who played the beta) I was really disappointed when the story was not how they built it up to be

        • I really wished that they had more PvE events in Stock. The first Queens event was pretty lame but it was something special at least. Now the only event is iron banner and I'm not a fan of PvP. I really can't wait until September when MGS5 is available to finally stop playing Destiny.

"See that skybox? It isn't. Everything you can see is playable geometry." Don't think I've ever personally be lied to so hard in a game.

          • Like the way I see it the actual story missions should be patrol missions. That's how lacking they are. The strikes are okay. Room for improvement. VoG was amazing. Crota's End was rushed right down to the enemy you face! 'Ah shit who's gonna be the boss?' 'Uhhhhh that hive that took the moon?' 'Scrota? But isn't that blowing our load too quick? Also didn't he kill thousand of guardians by himself? Wouldn't really fit into the lore' 'Its like I don't even know you anymore......the less creative thinking we have to do the better' 'All right Scrota it is!'
