Current PvP Meta is Unplayable due to Weapon Balance Issues

I encourage anyone on this forum who disagrees with what i am about to say to go play Iron banner and inspect every player before the game; 95% of said players will be using a combination of Thorn/Last Word with Felwinter's Lie, Matador64, or Party Crasher+1 shotguns. This Crucible meta is completely unplayable; you cannot even use a Scout Rifle or Auto Rifle because Exotic Hand Cannons are abused and overpowered in PvP. Time to kill for Scouts or Auto's is terrible when compared to being 2 shot by thorn and last word. Something needs to be done about this immediately. When all the threads in this forum category on balance are about Thorn/Last Word and Shotguns then you know something needs to be done. When will the developers finally take action and balance out all the weapon categories?

  • Just because most people use the same weapons doesn't mean that iron banner is unplayable. I have practically used nothing but auto rifles since this months iron banner started and I have been doing just fine.

  • Your talking shit. I played last night with Thorn and battles against mida, red death and atheons epilogue and ended up both of us dying. Sometimes I win sometimes they would. I get hand cannons are used a lot. But your bitching shows a poor loser.

    • I use the messanger and I do just fine. Lsst iron banner, I used a variety of guns and a sniper and did just fine. I did pretty well with mida, fang, and ghelons demise. Scout rifles are a different playstyle. Some of you guys don't know how to adapt.

    • 1. It IS playable. The problem is that the range of competitive weapons is narrow. 2. When will they act? Who knows. But I'd rather Bungie be SLOW to act...and take the right steps to fix the problems (better maps, buff ARs and FRs). Than act quickly and do things that will only make matters worse (nerf hand cannons). The Crucible is in the situation it is in right now because Bungie caved to complaints about ARs and FRs....and nerfed both of them into the ground. Breaking the two weapons classes that kept shotgun rushers honest....and creating a power-vacuum at close-to-mid-range that exotic hand cannons simply stepped into, and are now dominating. In a healthy weapon system----with the kind of maps Bungie keeps cranking out so far----They need to realize that auto rifles are going to dominate. You encourage the use of other weapons, by designing maps that allow people many opportunities to pick fights where those weapons can shine. Maps like Rusted Lands and Shores of Time are good examples of such maps. Both offering lots of chances for players to pick the range that they want to fight at.

      • They need to take the whole PvP out of the game. Focusing in the PvE for Destiny would be best. Every time they "balance" a weapon is redered useless, all because PvP. There are plenty of FPS games out there for PvP players. I doubt it will be done and PvP will continue to kill Destiny.

          • Yea, something needs to be done for sure, they need to buff AR's back up and buff scouts a bit. Those two weapon types are under-powered minus maybe MIDA. Shotguns are fine, they've already been nerfed and then they nerfed special ammo so nothing more needs to be done there in my opinion. I'm hoping they buff the AR's at some point so we can have more options than just pulse rifles and hand cannons.

          • I tried a AR in IB the other day, and at first I was like... DANG! I Got a Kill, maybe this isn't so bad, but then I died multiple times in a Row

          • I'm not sure they care about balance per se. In an interview they did acknowledge TLW for example might kill to fast. That said they are looking for weapons to have their time. Which is to say a time where they are OP. It's dumb.

          • December 1st update: "Exotic Weapons are designed to look, feel, and sound overpowered. At the same time, they are not supposed to break the balance of the game." February 5th update: "Right now, the Hand Cannons work as advertised, but they’re a little too effective at longer ranges. We’re finding that players get very comfortable hanging back and using the Hand Cannon like a Scout Rifle or a Sniper Rifle. With these new changes, you can still hit targets at long range, but the shots need to be paced out and the damage will be lower until you close in on your target. It is important to us to keep TTK values such that your arsenal feels lethal, but also both allows for some drama while you fight, and creates opportunities for counter-play when you’re being attacked."

              • You do realize that this game isn't meant to balanced right? That's why it isn't a competitive multiplayer, there are different weapon attack damages and armor stats, along with perks that make this game hard to balance. In a perfect balanced destiny pvp mode, we would all have the same load outs and armor. Basically playing with common weapons/armor and no supers. That would be a balanced and really competitive pvp experience.

              • I use mida and depending on the map i snipe. With mida i dont worry about thirn since i out range them.

              • Bump... they need to rebalance weapon range for all guns. Auto rifles aren't actually that bad... they are bad because shotguns have to much range and exotic hand cannons have to much range. Also one exotic hand cannon does way to much dmg over time..... ahem thorn ahem

              • It'd be better if they removed exotic firearms and stuck to legendaries. Far more variety, less of an overpowered elite. Of course they also need to look into those one-hit kill shotguns (from twenty feet no less) and sniper rifles that act like long range Golden guns.

              • Hand cannon is where its at or pulse rifle. This has always been the case since weapons patch. Scout rifles take as long as they always have. Distance is your friend.

              • And with the Thorn you can snipe from across the map and still kill someone pretty quickly.

              • They should have just kept PvP and PvE separate - used a separate set of balanced weapons in PvP that are not the same weapons you find in PvE activities and actually had some good PvP like Halo had.
