I'm defending Bungie. Fight me about it.

Because it seems like you people like to do that. I have a few points to make. 1; You call people sheep. This is ironic because in this forum, you are the sheep and that makes me laugh. I have a good kek whenever I see someone call DeeJ a jackass and then turn around and call someone a sheep for buying a DLC, when the reason you didn't buy it is not because you don't like Destiny, but because some guy said so. I genuinely find that funny. (Inb4some defensive guy comes in "I used my judgement, nerd! You're some troll!" *furious typing intensifies*) 2; If anyone here can tell me what Bungie is, I'll fill this one in. What is Bungie? And the correct answer comes in!
Number 2: a BUSINESS, whose sole purpose is to make $$$$, just like every other for-profit business on the planet. Period. No money = no business.
purpose and "mission" are two different things, so don't hate on me, socialists haha

-Kotaku 28 thank you. You heard it here, folks! Bungie is a company. Their goal is to make money and games. They aren't a charity service. They give 0 -blam!-s about your "veterans" money wise. 3; DeeJ is the Destiny- wait for it... Community manager! He does what he can with what he gets. Let's not forget that he, David, is also a human being. Shocking, I know. He does not know everything. And his plan is not world domination and the en-slavery of all human kind for his self goal of building the largest bag of lube. He also owes you nothing. Treat him like he is a person, because he is. 4; If I hear one more of you mention free speech, I'm going to kick a puppy. This is Bungie.net. You have no rights here. Play nice. Bungie can remove whatever they want, add whatever they want, and change whatever. They. Want. 5; Your tears are delicious. 6; "DLC special editions included first two expansions! Wahhhhhh" "They're forcing us to buy it!!!!!!11!!!" No they aren't, lmao. Oh man. Really need that XP boost to get me to Phobos! Force. Lol. Nah. We don't know what's truly in TTK, but it definitely more than a 20$ expansion. Oh and the "40$/40€ thing, either they thought no one would notice or something -blam!-ed up. Bungie's fault for that one.
Total sheep count: 70 Puppies to be kicked: 7. (I have gently tapped my German Shepard with my foot 7 times, like slow motion kicking. She was a tiny bit annoyed but got over it when I gave her a bath.

I need more hooks.
• Ok. You are right in everything you said. However, you have only highlighted 'issues' that are relatively minor in contrast to the real problem. The real problem is Destiny and the way it's been treated by Bungievision. They are a company yes, and profit is their goal. Like all businesses though, they have a product, specifically a game they are selling to gamers. If that product is not up to scratch, then they are SELLING a product which is not up to scratch. Destiny is a minimum effort, maximum reward money making machine. Nothing more. Why you ask? Oh god the amount of things wrong with destiny... First let's start with what it does right. Gunplay. The gunplay is amazing. As a big mmo enthusiast I loved the idea of dps and crits on head shots and such all in an FPS format, then add jet packs and double jumps to the equation and a perfect mix of the mechanics that made halo and cod multiplayer so entertaining and addictive. Graphics/concept art. The game just looks plain lovely in every way. Early progression. Levels 1-20 were actually pretty fun. It's what got me hooked on destiny in the first place. I played the trial and I was capped at level 7 but I wanted to go on, I wanted max level, as is my nature. However, this was far too short and easy and light levels...well they will be discussed below. The idea. I cannot stress this enough, the idea behind destiny is great. From the gameplay to the universe to the goal etc. This is an idea that was going to create the most amazing game ever. But... (Takes deep breath)
Time for a rant. Sorry guys
The EXECUTION is TERRIBLE. I would say that I didn't know how they could -blam!- up so god damn hard, but I know exactly how they did, as well as why. Story. I'll put this first because let's be honest, how do you talk about something that is just simply not there. I swear to god if I hear "but story doesn't matter diddlez, a game can be good without story, just look at the first halo". Hmmm...that's a pretty good point guy here's a gold star, but wait, what was the motto of destiny again, you know the one in all the commercials. Become legend. BECOME LEGEND. BECOME LEGEND OF WHAT? Let me describe my guardians 'legend'. So there's this guy. He was dead but now he's alive...because. Shooting things. "I could tell you" The Speaker, 2014.
he doesn't :o
shooting things. Use your ghost for this, k cool. Shoot things. "Hey why am I sho-" Sorry. "I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain" ( my personal favourite). Go here, destroy this. Ok your done. The ways in which bungie avoid all the important story points astounds me. Not just because of how unprofessional it is but because they actually had the nerve to sell a game in which story is actually pretty damn important (context anyone?). Grimoire cards you say? I say stfu. How could a AAA game in 2015 have the laziest method of storytelling I have ever seen. Bungie.net is a completely seperate entity to destiny the game. Therefore the only story that is IN the game are the 'story' missions. Therefore when I judge the story of the game all I will judge is the story missions. My judgement?
it was baaaaad
The story is similar to the creative writing pieces I was forced to write in 3rd grade. Now it's obvious why the story suffered in this game and it's name is activision. Behind the scenes conflict caused the lead writer to leave, leading to the scrapping of the original story a year before release. Now fair enough, you still have a game to release. But activision, the dumbasses, decided that instead of pushing back the release, decided to put in a new half assed story and sell it in release day as planned. That's why the story section of this game is garbage. CONTENT + RNG + DLC So now i want to talk about in my eyes the largest problem with destiny. THERE IS A SEVERE LACK OF CONTENT. There is shit all to do in this game. "But diddlez I have over one hundred trillion hours in this game and a lot of hours played = great game" So...a slot machine. Just any average slot machine you would see in any casino. It could be said that that slot machine didn't have much content. You just stare at the same screen rolling down over and over just pressing one or two different buttons hoping you'll win. Now incidentally enough, these machines get a lot of hours logged by the people that play them even though most of the time they are just throwing money down the drain. Thus is what we in society like to call gambling addiction. Now colour me crazy, you take a random number generator, implement it into your game and attach it to practically the best part of it. The Loot. Now it seems to me that you substitute that money for the hours played and you're game is starting to look like a slot machine in very shiny wrapping. I would describe content as the things you can actually do in the game. e.g. missions = content. If i list the content: - Story missions - Missions - Patrol - Strikes - Two raids - POE - Crucible - Trials of osiris Ok. That actually seems pretty reasonable right. But hang on: - Destiny BASE $60 - TDB $20 - HoW $20 Now I am Australian. Things are more expensive here in Australia so I'm no expert on whats expensive in America. But if you bought a new game off the shelf in America would $100 be a lot? The reason I ask is because if you were to play destiny from start to finish for the very first time right now at this point in time. It would actually feel like a complete game. But in reality, Destiny BASE could be finished within 3 days (actual days not playtime) TDB could be finished in one day HoW could be finished in one day By 'finished' i don't mean reaching max level and obtaining every weapon in the game. I mean you have experienced every bit of content that is on offer before you have to start replaying the shit out of everything as you run on your RNG powered mouse wheel. After a while it becomes apparent what real content there is. Every god damn mission is the same. Go here. Defend your ghost. Go here. Defend your ghost. Scan this. And on the rare occasion, kill this boss. And thats the next thing. Every boss is just a glorified bullet sponge which is in fact a bigger version of the npcs that you are continually ramming your head against as you progress through missions and strikes. There is little enemy variety in each race. What they each have four different enemies each? cool. Too bad most of the time there is only one faction in your selected mission or strike or raid. Raids. We only have two. VoG, the first raid is good, in fact its the only part of the game that is actually different. Then theres CE. Which is a glorified strike. Then theres POE which is a slightly improved strike but is still monotonous, and pvp is pvp. It can all be completed in days. And thats usually the problem. With each new DLC (not expansion, never expansion) all the CONTENT is completed in the first few days, and then the next 6 months is replaying and grinding the same CONTENT you played in the first few days, and the only reason you continue playing is because RNG artificially prolongs the game because once you get a taste of the reward from that slot machine your hooked, and much like a slot machine you rarely get anything in return for the time you put in. PVP Crucible is alright. Its just unbalanced. VERY unbalanced. If there is a gun/guns that outshines all other guns. You're balancing has failed. If the only way of acquiring said guns is pure luck of the draw, your reward mechanism has failed. If there is no reward for your performance in crucible then there is no incentive to do well. in that aspect, you have also failed. TOO kind of fixed that but only for TOO. If you come first in crucible the person who came last has the same chance of getting an exotic. Meaning there is no relevance of crucible in terms of progression. Then you have TOO. Its a good concept or endgame pvp and could have worked. But when there is constant complaint about connection problems and cheaters. You guessed it. You have failed. To sum PVP up, it could have been good but it failed. It can still be good, but I don't have faith in the developers to do anything good, as they are yet to prove they can. LIGHT LEVELS Im going to keep this one short as I am very drained at this point, light levels are terrible for this game. They could have been a good, interesting style of end game progression for this game but it would rely on a good loot system, which in destiny there is not. And for a game like destiny which mimics the likeness of an MMO in many ways, endgame is the most important part. __________________________________ I truthfully did not expect this to become an essay. Hell i couldn't have written this much for any of my assignment, yet in the spirit of this post I might as well write a conclusion. Ok, here goes: In conclusion, Destiny is a shallow game, at least in my opinion but I do know there are other who share my opinion as well as those who don't. I don't hate destiny. The purpose of this post is not to spread hate. It is to outline the issues that destiny has. As i said above the idea of destiny is great, the problem is the execution. It seems to me that the developers lost sight of their masterpiece and instead brought out a corporate cash grabbing machine instead. Honestly unless The Taken King COMPLETELY overhauls this games core design I fear that nothing will change and no matter how much new content is implemented there will still be an overall shallow feeling to it that just ruins it.

        • Actually, bungies plan is to fund their conquest for world domination with the money they make from the games.
seriously tho. This post is great
• Two things. Voicing concern on forums is one of only two ways to really let bungie know what they are doing wrong. Some great changes have come from voicing opinions on the forums. Secondly, yes I am hooked on destiny so I will buy the dlc. But the lack of content in this game per dlc is so appalling that it has made me dislike bungie and distrust the next products they will release, like halo and the next destiny. I would bet that the only reason people are still playing is because they formed a group of friends on destiny and there are not many games where groups of friends can play together on. But the outlook for destiny is very grim. I myself only play trials anymore, and about a quarter of my friends list plays destiny( as opposed to 3/4 about 3 months ago). So yes the sheep argument is stupid, but letting bungie know they are steadily losing future customers is important to tell them.

        • Preach brother. I feel the same way I'm not a day 1 player but I enjoy destiny and am always playing it. It's a fun game and I don't care that dlc is over priced or anything I mean like you said bng is a company. Ive been with them since reach and they have never let me down with their games since. Other than leaving halo cause I love halo.

        • Whether we wanted it or not, we stepped into a war with the Activisionians on Bungie. So let's start by taking out their commanders one by one. Pre-ordering. From what I can gather, he commands the gaming content from a Publisher outside of Destiny. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on DLC.

        • I don't get it. I never had a problem with anything but crucible lag. $40 no problem. $20 for emotes. No thanks I'll pass. No biggy. Thorn meet my last word. Shotguns, sure all day. I honestly don't get the crying.

        • Agree with everything you said, but they need to make it less obvious that they are just recycling old things for new content. Cool the Taken are the same enemies as before but with a cool black aura. And they are "re-imagining" 3 strikes we already have with taken enemies. I get they are a business and re-using assets saves a lot of time and money, but try to make it less obvious.

          • Destiny right now on amazon is $33. The expansion pass is still $34. Based on the pricing for TTK and the legendary edition, in September, two months from now, amazon's price for both should total out to $20. (Since that is what they are saying the base game + 2 expansions are worth). If you think this is actually going to happen, you need your brain checked.
