I noticed this today running the Vault of Glass (Hard Mode), but I'm sure it has come to others' attention as well.
The way to get the best rewards, whether from Raids, Strikes, Nightfalls. or whatever, might be to be dead when you get to the reward screen.
EVIDENCE: My friend spent most of the Templar fight dead (he was Detained in mid-jump and died when he fell through the bubble). He got his first Fatebringer. I died due to splash damage while sniping an Oracle; I got Praedyth's Revenge.
The next time we ran the raid, different characters, we both lived through the Templar and got nothing.
We both survived the rest of the first raid and got no more rewards. Second run- I was killed by an unseen Supplicant, self-revived, and was perma-killed by 2 more exploding Supplicants. I got the Vision of Confluence (my second), filling up my inventory. Another friend died fighting on Mars- he got his first Mythoclast. When I got back to the Tower, I had my third Mythoclast waiting at the Postmaster.
So here's the plan... EVERYONE die. Then we all get Fatebringer, VoC and Vex!!!
Wait a minute... I just realized why that won't work.... =(

A while ago I was with a team helping a new guy with the VoG. He died every 4 seconds and was of absolutly no use to the team. He got Patience and Time and I got Chatter white. Death=Profit
