NOTE: This was NOT my idea, this was from someone else on the #destiny forum that I thought deserved to be here.
Imagine there were Red Engrams. They would be a variety of everything- Weapons, Armor, Shaders, you name it.- The simple ones would appear about as much as Rare (Blue) Engrams, and the best ones would be even harder to obtain than Exotics. They would be rewards from either PoE or Raids. Nowhere else. For PoE, you could only get them at the highest difficulty (35 or above.) Raids would have to be on Hard, and even then, they would rarely appear anywhere at all. But the stuff you would get from them would be only the best stuff in the game, new things that don't exist in Destiny... Yet. Sounds cool, right? Well, here's the catch...
The perks and skills included with them would strengthen you heavily, but the perks would be negative. It would also affect your Super Attacks. Say as a Titan, you use your Bubble. Well yes, you would be protected, but once it was used up, it would take away half your life. Other things of this sort would go with everything else (except shaders of course, they'd just look cool.) Here's another cool feature though. Once you obtained your first Red Engram (let's call them Blood Engrams from now on,) you would get a new meter to fill up called a Darkness Meter. In order to fill it up, you would dismantle Blood Weapons, Armor, etc. Each time you leveled up, all the skills and perks of your Blood items would be strengthened, but the negative perks would be stronger too. It would be up to you to decide to level up in darkness or not. You could be super strong, but you would probably be committing seppuku a lot. Like, a LOT.
So yeah, that's just an idea I saw in the forums. Let me know if you like it!
