Earth Overpopulation.

Overpopulation is a function of the number of individuals compared to the relevant resources, such as the water and essential nutrients they need to survive. It can result from an increase in births, a decline in mortality rates, an increase in immigration, or an unsustainable biome and depletion of resources. Growing advances in technology with each coming year has affected humanity in many ways. One of these has been the ability to save lives and create better medical treatment for all. A direct result of this has been increased lifespan and the growth of the population. In the past fifty or so years, the growth of population has boomed and has turned into overpopulation. In the history of our species, the birth and death rate have always been able to balance each and maintain a population growth rate that is sustainable. So what are some effects? - Depletion of natural resources Obviously the earth is only capable of producing a certain number of natural resources. Overpopulation causes them to be consumed faster than the earth can replace them, which leads too.... - Degradation of environment To make things worse, as natural resources are rapidly consumed and earths recovery is unable to keep up, permanent damage is done to the environment. - Conflicts and wars caused by increased competition. Less resources and more people means more people fighting over less and less, which results in conflicts that only further consume more resources, damage more environment, and increase the overall problem. - Rise in Unemployment When a country becomes overpopulated, it gives rise to unemployment as there fewer jobs to support large number of people. Rise in unemployment gives rise to crime as people will steal various items to feed their family and provide them basic amenities of life. - High Cost of Living  As difference between demand and supply continues to expand due to overpopulation, it raises the prices of various commodities including food, shelter and healthcare. This means that people have to pay more to survive and feed their families. Eventually people can no longer survive on the wages they earn, which also leads to more crime. Reasonable solutions: EDUCATION If the masses are knowledgeable of the problem and its affects they are more likely to be willing to be a part of the solution. Understanding the importance of only having 1 or 2 children, and the reasoning behind it is easier than dealing with the deaths and suffering of millions in the future. Sex education is also important.
Now, bear with me religious people, we are talking about a global issue where that includes every religion, so try to keep yours from making you think your religion takes precedence over another's
. Teaching young teens about safe sex and contraceptives before they begin engaging in sex is imperative. Providing access to contraceptives to all is also important. The investment required to prevent the problem is insanely cheaper the cost of letting it get worse, and then attempting to fix it when it becomes an unavoidable issue. It is therefore important for parents and teachers to shed their old inhibitions and make their kids or students aware of solid and practical sex education. Basically we must humanely and reasonably curb population growth while simultaneously improving lifespans and quality of life. Another simple solution is tax benefits or concessions. Governments of various countries might have to come up with various policies related to tax exemptions to curb overpopulation. One of them might be to waive of certain part of income tax or lowering rates of income tax for those families who have single or two children. As we humans are more inclined towards money, this may produce some positive results. There are also the more radical solutions, but I'm going to keep it reasonable. Discuss. Extensive sexual education is a must. You tell someone they can't do something and they're bound to do it anyway. Show them how to do it responsibly and safely Well, that's a win/win situation. Do I want my daughter or son sexually active at 15? No, not really. But I'd prefer knowing they're safe and there won't be a child scare than being no tolerance

  • Radical solutions are the only realistic way of dealing with overpopulation, humanity has a tendency of being selfish and having adaptable survival skills.

    • Create birthing licences. If you cannot afford or cannot raise children in a stable environment you only get to have 1 child. If you are a good provider you get to have 2. 2 should be enough for anyone. Divorced couples dont get to have more kids if they get the child. But the newly married couple get 1 child. Imo.

Good watch, definitely something anyone interested in the question of how many people could live on earth, what the effects can be, and how to mitigate it should check out. I do admit his viewpoint is quite optimistic though. Bit tired so I won't really put any body into this comment. Sorry, guys.

    • when the baby boomers all die off, there will be a lot less people as the current world system is topheavy with drastically more elderly people over young workers.. and population problems are mostly 3rd world countries, not the US.therefore this thread is pointless unless you send it to said countries.

      • We could drop like one bomb on China and get about a million of them. Or resurrect Hitler, maybe hit a ford focus coming from Mexico and get about 50.

      • Well we could always wipe out India and China, effectively decreasing Earths population by a third. Or limit child birth to the point where more humans die than are born for awhile.

      • "Something to think about: The earth is 4.6 billion years old. Let's scale that to 46 years. We have been here for four hours. Our industrial revolution began one minute ago. In that time, we have destroyed more than 50% of the world's forests. This isn't sustainable."

        • The main reason for this is Chinese people being all sexist before the cultural revolution. Some women would just keep having more children until the got a boy. My grandmother has 12 siblings.
jk racism not intended
You are one of my favorite users here, Britton. You tend to have some very interesting reads. Here is a post that I made a while ago discussing how to colonize and build a civilization on Mars to solve the issue of overpopulation here on planet Earth.

          • Cleanse the world of Bronies and furries. Only a select few will live only becuase they are liked or can be used. We could use Engra as a counter attack against aliens.

A very major problem. Overpopulation isn't a concern for most countries. Specifically, the more developed ones. Countries seeing the massive increases in population density are the ones in Africa and parts of southern Asia. Europe and the Americas have been seeing steady population numbers, as the appropriate number of children per family should be 2.1 on average. They are around this or lower for most of the first world. It's the third world countries with less access to contraception that see substantial growth in birth rates. Relatively speaking, as long as there is enough land to grow and feed the people of a certain population size, the numbers will remain stable. When there isn't enough land per personal consumption, the numbers will find a more unfortunate way to stabilize via starvation. You can learn more from many sources, like thoughty2.

Kill the blacks. Doing this will mean more chicken and watermelon for the rest of us. Plus all crime would cease to exist and I wouldn't have to watch those commercials about donating 10 cents a day to give an African kid fresh water.
