How to use Sniper Rifle in Crucible

I am very new to gaming (modern gaming anyways). In the first 4-6 weeks of playing destiny I couldn't break 500 points in Crucible. I worked at it and eventually could top the charts... since reduced to middle ranking in IB. Recently I thought I would expand my skills by learning to be a Sniper, but I don't get how to do it in Destiny. 1) I find that I settle into a spot and end up getting killed by someone with a euros regime or other high powered non-sniper gun... whats the point of a sniper rifle if the other guns have the same range without losing mobility or sight? Am I doing something wrong here? An example would be sniping by C facing B on Venus map (maat mons I think its called). 2) it seems like there are not many snipe points, so if I try to hunker down, I get maybe two kills until I am hunted down. Tips? Tricks?

Well, I only run snipers in the crucible. What you need to know first is that, in normal crucible, it is always better to use a low impact sniper instead of a slow firing high impact sniper rifle. So you can counter auto rifles or cannons in tight situations. Headshots are instant kills, no matter which sniper you use (exception: overshielded players). Also, while there are few big maps in PvP, most maps are designed for fast CQC encounters. That's why a short-range scope on a sniper is almost a must. It really helps. Some sniper riflles only offer mid and long range scopes (they are randomly selected on non-exotic guns and, if it's a HoW legendary, can change when you reforge the gun). And most low impact snipes have high RoF and at least 4 shots per mag, high stability. The Patience and Time exotic sniper is a prime example of a sniper designed for PvP. Aside from that, you need to stay mobile. This is important. Sure, you can camp on one spot. But as soon as you score a kill, enemy players will see you during the death-cam. On the map you mentioned, Maat Moons, you should always rush to B and snipe people coming from the small tunnel. If you start on the other side, rush the tunnel and snipe the ramp. Also another good sniping spot is C to B and vice versa.
