You're in a big open area (real life). You have nothing but a standard, unmodified handgun of your choice that has an infinite reserve of ammo, but you still have to reload it. There is cover scattered around the area for you to run around, but you cannot climb on top of anything. If Hive Thrall were released into the area (all at once, they don't come back once you kill them), what is the maximum number of them that you think you can handle with a good chance of survival?
These are all standard thrall, not cursed by the way, and no loopholes/cheeses please. Also remember they all would drop in at the same time. Whatever number you choose, if you survive for 10 minutes, the rest will disappear.
Scenario 2: Now how many do you think you can survive in the same situation except with a baseball bat instead of a gun?
EDIT: I left some things vague on purpose for you to interpret, but I'll try to clear some things up here: Lets just say for the handgun, I'll define it as a real firearm that you can easily use with only one hand. The thrall would be smarter than Destiny AI, but you could also move and fight in a lot of ways that your guardian couldn't in game (But like I said earlier, you are not allowed to climb on top of anything). Let's pretend the thrall would take at most 2 bullets to the head, anywhere else would depend, obviously hitting the limbs won't do much. We'll also say that people can take 1 or 2 direct hits to a vital area depending on your physique. The thrall would spawn 20 meters in front of you in a group (Clustered in a group IN FRONT of you, not surrounding you).

Edited by PVBeachin: 6/3/2015 1:16:47 AMEasy, all of them. If they don't spawn surrounding you, but just all spawn in a group in front of you, then you could just run for your life for 10 minutes

Edited by A Fallen Splicer: 6/27/2015 4:18:46 AMI don't know maybe I can kill one with each bullet i have in the mag, but after that i will know my place in the food chain

Edited by tidus_0893: 6/3/2015 4:04:11 AMMaybe a few, depending on their distance from you, not as many if out of effective range. Though, if they are within your effective range then that's too close anyways. When they reach you though, it's over. There is no other way for it to go down. They likely can outrun humans (IRL) and likely have more strength. If you could possibly find a body of water, or something to hide in, that would help the odds. I don't think OP allows that though.

If a large mag handgun like a 9mm could drop them one shot... maybe 10 or so. If not, and I need a 45 or a 357. Then 5 tops. theyre too fast and I'm not. Reloading fast is not as easy as v games make it look. Baseball bat? Maybe two if theyre slightly staggered. If they get a hold of you youre done. Now, if I could use everything available in my closet... Somewhere between 25-50. Depending on how level I keep my head.

They would not be able to get near me because of the giant slippery puddle of piss I would be standing in and constantly adding to just by seeing thrall run at me.
-
To all that answered " a number bigger than I can count" , you're all liars. More than 75% of the population wouldn't survive a slow ass zombie apocalypse. Imagine a Hive invasion?

I see thrall downtown all the time they ask me for money for gas, they're really buying Crack though

Edited by Afawafa: 6/3/2015 3:50:40 AMGiven how scared most people are of rabid dogs and spiders, I'd imagine lots of us would simply wet our pants while the screaming nightmarish creature rips us apart. Since I'm also trapped in a sick twisted gladiator arena and at the mercy of some sort of sadistic higher power, I'd probably just shoot myself.
-
Depends, is either light switch or brawler on?
-
Edited by w4rpblade: 6/3/2015 3:46:32 AMIncindiary tracer bullets. Thralls burn when they die. Start a fire of the first few and they won't push through for a bit. Grab cover and surround myself with it. If I can't climb they can't either. Dance.

Ruger gp100. With 357 hollow points 6 rounds before reload. A true "golden age hand cannon". I also have a dozen speed loaders. Easy one shot kills. So I'd take at least 50 that's including missing 28 outta 78 total shots. Then the fists start swinging and I'd take 4-5 more before finally going down. But as long as my family makes it to safety.....I'm good

Most of the people here have never fired a handgun in a real battle situation. Even being in the military, I was never in a scenario where I needed to shoot anyone. On top of that, 20 meters in a high stress environment, good luck killing anything with a handgun. Finally, add in the the confusion you'd be experiencing seeing something out of your fantasy come to life, thirsting for your blood, yeah. Might as well empty your mag trying to kill something, then if you can fumble through the reload, just turn the barrel to your temple and save yourself the agony of being ripped to shreds. I'm a decent shot at 15 meters, I'd like to think I could take 1 or 2 with me. But at that distance, you'd have to be cool as ice to get the reload off and reacquire your charging targets. They'll be on you before you know it.

Are you serious? Thralls fall down like dominoes. I can melee with BOTH hands irl = invincible.
-
I have a warlock melee Irl but with both hands. Could kill thousands
-
Over 9000
-
Over 9000 with a bat
-
Probably one. I'd shoot one in the head but in turn the kick from the hand cannon would break my wrist
-
Well I think killing an alien made of ash would be pretty easy
-
Lol, people equating a basic handgun with firearms in Destiny. We'd all -blam!-ing die so easily, don't lie to yourselves.
-
Plot twist: they're actually necromorphs from dead space.
-
They are one shot kills
-
If Agee is between 3 and 7 then that
-
I'm a pretty fair pistol marksman, so assuming the fictional weapons are no more powerful than real firearms (admittedly, a questionable assumption) I could probably take between 2 and 5 depending on intervening obstacles, and assuming I never missed. (Which in an environment like this, would be quite an accomplishment.) Baseball bat, DRT.
-
Can't kill them not high enough level bullets immune
-
Lol to all the people saying run. You would all either be caught or lying on the ground wanting to die in the first 30 seconds. I'm one of those people that would die sadly :\
