The Future of Ships in Destiny

Ever watched your ship soaring to its next destination and wondered: what else can these things do. I have. These are my ideas if ships were ever fully explored in Destiny. Space Combat: The UI would be in third person with the ship in the center. The top left would display your health and shields, as well as the weapons available and the one currently in use. A targeting reticle would be displayed to indicate where the shot would land. The controls for the ships would be as follows (I'm going to use Xbox controls so translate if your used to play station):
Left control stick to gently change the direction the ships flying Right control stick to move the camera around the ship Right trigger fire available weapon Right bumper to use rig (this will be explained later) Left trigger to use turbo boost Left bumper to brake Y button switches weapons B button locks/unlocks reticle on targets X button does a barrel roll A button fires a flare (it's just cosmetic, you can buy different colors or effects from the shipwright) D-pad: left to strafe left, right to strafe right, up to turn 90 degrees upward and down to turn 90 degrees downward. Back button would activate the Director rather than your ghost, and you would be given these options: X will take you back to orbit/abandon current objective Toggling the D-pad would turn on/off fireteam chat
All ships would have stats that determine their utility in combat and exploration:
Speed: how fast the ship can move as well as the duration of the turbo function Rate of fire: the speed at which weapons fire Impact: the initial damage of a direct attack Range: the likelihood of landing a shot Rig: this would be a ship's special ability that could be installed or come already implemented. Some of these rigs would include: -a superb turbo that runs the risk of exploding -a temporary cloaking device -a counter measures system where weapons would fire at enemies automatically, albeit with poorer aim -a reinforced hull that decreases overall speed but allows you to ram enemy ships These rigs could be modified or replaced via purchase from the shipwright.
These are your ship types. Use your imagination on what your ship would qualify as:
Regulus Class General purpose Phaeton Class Fast and maneuverable Kestrel Class Specialized Long range fire Jovian Class Specialized Heavy weapons Vestian Class Specialized Rapid fire weapons
Locations:
The Lost Fleet The Reef, Asteroid Belt This area would be littered with floating debris of destroyed ships left behind by the Awokens' ancestors. Fallen pirate vessels would frequent this area, probably scavenging for parts in a zone already picked to the bone. Along the perimeter off this area would be something called The Blockade, a string of Cabal capital ships refusing access to anyone outside of the Jovian Realm. Enemies: Fallen and Cabal Fallen: Skiff: Attacks would include the usual heavy pulse shots and mines that would now float in place. Shanks would now fly out to defend it but can quickly be dispatched Ketch: These guys would have 3 cannon turrets on either side of the ship, and if approached from the front it would try to ram you. It's weak spot would be the massive engine on top. Cabal: Harvester: This ship has slow horizontal movement along with rapid vertical strafing. It's singular cannon can shoot from any angle below the ship. Therefore attacking from above would the best strategy. Goliath: They look the same as the massive ship you enter in Cerberus Vae. Massive vessels that have cabal in firing chambers on top of the ship that fire beam weapons. They can be taken out but require high damage, high precision attacks. The main gun fires similar to the fallen walker, where it can wipe you out in one direct hit but takes time to charge. Derelict Row Outer Rings, Saturn This zone would overlook Saturn. Would contain a thick nebulae-esque fog that would deter sight. Ancient vex installations would be deployed around center of the zone, while the edges would contain decrepit ships infested with the Hive. Enemies: Vex and Hive Vex The Vex use modified versions of the Hydra and cyclops to be used in space combat. They have sleeker, more aerodynamic models with built in thrusters. These vex units spawn from a Citadel (like the one on Venus but in space) and in order to stop them from attacking, you need to fly directly into one of the holes in the citadel, find the core in the center, destroy it, and get back out before it explodes. Hive Hive seeders are the grunt ships that you'll be facing against this race. They'll attempt to ram into you and explode similar to the cursed thrall. Shriekers will also appear, but they will be defending Tomb ships. These ships would be immune to gunfire and in order to destroy it, you'll need to follow it into the portal it opens and attack while its shields are down. You'll then need to escape back out of the portal before it closes or you'll be killed. Two of each race require different strategies to defeat, creating dynamic play. The fallen and cabal can be defeated with precision and heavy attacks, while the vex and hive require speed and maneuverability to defeat.
Patrols:
Patrol missions could be stuff like: -racing from point A to point B -destroying x number of enemies -destroy an enemy capital ship -scanning major landmarks Public events would also occur in these zones. Some examples would include: Fallen are attempting to salvage an ancient vessel. Kill the ones salvaging and prevent anymore from approaching. Cabal are expanding their blockade, push them back to reclaim the territory. Vex are deploying a bomb in the area. Kill them and dismantle it.
Player Housing:
Your ship would double as a small, loft-size social space where you and members of your fireteam could hang out. Interior layouts vary from ship to ship, but functionally speaking each ship would include a cockpit to go to orbit, a living space with furniture (more on that later), a vault should you forget your gun at the Tower, and a tele-room where your fireteam would enter should they want to visit. There would also be a large, cinematic window that would overlook whatever location your orbiting. Customization: Furniture and appliances could be found in a new set of engrams discovered randomly or bought from the Cryptarchs. These items would be purely aesthetic and would not provide additional help in combat. The possibilities for furniture looks is endless, whether it's cyberpunk couch with ghost-shaped pillows or a hobgoblin head mounted on the wall. Displays could also be used to show off gear you've collected but wouldn't use.
And that's about it. Let me know if you guys have any ideas to add to this new system. Hunter out.
