Trading mixed with RNG idea

To start off, I'd like it to be known that I am, and have always been, against the idea of basic trading in Destiny. Having the ease of being able to trade anything with anyone would eliminate the point in half of what we spend our time doing in Destiny. The game would be broken if trading was that easy. The tokens in this new expansion gave me an idea for a possible compromise between people who wish to have trading in-game, and those who are against it. What if Destiny players could come across Merchant Medallions, which, when aqcuired, would allow you to trade one item with another person who also obtained a Merchant Medallion? These medallions would be rewarded as RNG drops from endgame activities such as nightfalls, raids, and PoE and Trials. This would force people to still do the endgame activities which give them the chance to drop the item(s) they are looking for, so future trading doesn't appear as a free hand out. The drop rate, of course, would not be terribly high, but somewhere around the average exotic drop rate perhaps. I'm not even 100% certain how I feel about this idea, however I thought I'd throw it out there for people to view and discuss. Share your thoughts and expanded suggestions for this idea below! _________________________________________ Edit 1: Maybe there should be both an Exotic Medallion and a Legendary one. Exotic weapons and gear can only be attached to and traded with the exotic medallion obviously, and would have a lower drop rate than the legendary medallion.

      • Another good idea I've seen is the Christmas exotic idea where you could donate all your spare exotics and on Christmas day it would be distributed to a random player via the postmaster, it would have its flaws but it would be nice

          • Trading wouldn't break the game. I don't see a difference in people who afk in a game and then come back to shoot a rocket at the last boss and are rewarded with an exotic; versus being in a fireteam and your teammate happens to get their 6th ghorn so you trade for it. I think trading should be limited to people in the same fireteam that completed said activity. Rarity for rarity. Upon trading, the weapon would lose all xp progress(if you were to have open trading in the tower). I play with my friend almost every time I get on. There has been times where one of us will get something we either don't want or need, yet can't do anything with it. Then again, Xur has kinda been that person you can go to get your exotics if they don't drop.

              • Great idea (No sarcasm), but those tokens should not be too rare or too common. Also, you should be at least level 20 to use them. That should be enough to make the trading system fair. [spoiler]On another note, trading strange coins and currencies should be its own thing. (Possibly) without one of those tokens.[/spoiler]

                • Have a trading vendor in the reef. When you open his screen there is a search bar. You can search for, let's say ghorn. All the people who put in ghorn (more on this later) will have something they want (3 etheric light or anything else) if you see a good deal or in this example, have A lot of etheric light, you could spend 1 etheric light as the trading requirement, and then pay the other person 3 etheric light for a ghorn. You can also sell things. You can put in an item or material or glimmer and ask for something in return.

                    • How about a trade merchant, where a player would go to that merchant put up an exotic or legendary that they want to trade and what they want to trade for. That merchant would charge a player 25 strange coin per transaction. Another player would go to the same merchant and browse to see what's up for trade and if they have what the player wants then this player will also be charge 25 strange coin to completed the trade the completed trade will be mail to the post master.

                      • I still think trading should only be within the fireteam at end rewards screen for those who were involved in it so if I get say a exotic from the nightfall I can trade rewards from some1 in my fireteam however u must receive a reward to trade thus no running 15 people thru and stealing their rewards both party's must agree for the trade to happen

                        • Hmmmm....not a bad idea, really. I, for one, find it annoying when I play a strike and receive a super awesome reward....for a class I don't play. Would be nice to trade for something I could actually use, since I won't get much for breaking it down. The coin drop would also prevent people from abusing a trade system. And would go a long way to prevent the slippery slope of the CS thing that ruins a lot of MMO's. (Let's face it, an out-and-out marketplace eventually turns to real coin, and ends up in "pay-to-win")
