Fan art Farm Boy, by Insanityxii Part 1 - Contact I volunteered for it . Volunteered to drop in a titanium box, volunteered for the most risky job in the UNSC. I volunteered to become an ODST marine, or a "Helljumper", as they were known throughout the corps. It wasn't out of patriotic pride, or anything like that. It was for revenge. Twenty years ago, I was fifteen years old, lounging about lazily in the plentiful fields of the paradise colony world Harvest; I had a good home, and Harvest was pretty much safe from rebels, pirates, and the other troubles that plague less fortunate colonies. Life was good, just me, and my Mom and Dad. Then they came. The day started like any other, me and a few of the other lads going to watch those Marines in training. We were fascinated by them, how they followed orders to the bone, how they acted swiftly and surely. Later in the day however, an unknown object entered the atmosphere. It wasn't like any of our cruisers; it was purple, and made of a shiny metallic element which was definitely not used in any of our standard ships, on closer inspection, it seemed like the ship was curvaceous, although why it was built this way was a mystery, surely it would just slow it down with its un-streamlined shape. Needless to say, the UNSC ships rose up armed to meet it. There were whisperings amongst the local colonists, finally, other sentient life had been discovered. I didn't find out what happened up there until much later, hours went past without it moving an inch, and apprehension slowly crept into the onlooking crowd. Suddenly, the enemy cruiser fired on one of our ships, plasma streaming out of its dual cannons ,that was when the screaming started. Time went as a blur after that, chaos predominated over every other sense as one by one, our ships were shot down by the shear power of the enemy cruiser, as easily as scissors cut through paper. My parent's house was miles away, yet still, I should have ran back, should have warned them; maybe then I wouldn't even be recounting this tale. However, I was in disarray, people were yelling everywhere, screaming how they were all going to die, next thing, the also petrified marines were shouting at civilians to board the ship, to evacuate. I tried to run back to the house, to tell my parents, but a marine in black armour which had the initials ODST printed on the right shoulder pad grabbed me and threw me on-board ,probably saved my life. As we left the atmosphere, I saw before my very eyes blue explosions smash into the once great planet harvest, the UNSC's pride and joy, and my home, and bury it under a glassy field. My parents hadn't made it; they were still down there, dead or dying. As we fled out of the planets atmosphere, and jumped into slip space, I made a vow that day to wreak a terrible vengeance on the monsters that had committed this heinous act. All these years later, standing 10km above the desolate New Mombassa, I'm starting to regret it. [Edited on 10.16.2010 5:39 PM PDT]

 • Nice implementation with the VISR tech, but isn't it 25 years before ODST?

 • I realised what he just said, and looked up sharply. "Switch and Rook? You know where they are?" I asked hopefully, and Blade gave a slight inclination of his head. "Yeah, we got a signal from them not ten minutes ago. Apparently, they took over that Covenant outpost by the Waterfall, the one near that old base we were in. Switch re purposed some equipment and sent out a signal. The Virmire received it, and Vice Admiral Cole dispatched a Pelican out to pick them up. They should be here in a few hours. Seems they also picked up Captain Smithe too. He'll be helping navigate a ship in this fleet, as much as I hate him he's a damn good Captain when he sets his mind to it." Smithe? I'd thought he'd died in the attack. I thought it unfair that someone like him would survive when Captain Andrew Lars had died. Really unfair. "Oh," Blade chipped in, "the Spartans were also with them. Which is excellent, we'll definitely need their prowess for the upcoming mission." "The upcoming mission?" I asked, perplexed. Well, I hadn't expected that we would rest for the next few weeks, but I thought all that we'd just be fighting off boarders. "Of course, we're ODSTs. We're born for missions." Blade laughed. He then turned to Mains. "I've explained your...situation the the Vice Admiral Mains. He's happy to reinstate you as an ODST, give you a second chance. This is bigger than the UNSC and the Rebels now, the very future of human kind is at risk. We can't afford to fight amongst ourselves. So what do you say, feel like joining my squad?" I was surprised. Blade had shown nothing but distrust for Mains since we had first met him. And now, he was inviting him to our little family! "I'd love to Staff Sergeant." Mains saluted, "I haven't forgotten my training sir, don't worry." "Very well Corporal Mains, welcome to the squad." Blade congratulated, and we all shook hands. "Looks like you ain't the FNG anymore eh lad?" He then said to me, and I smiled. Cole proposed we all toasted to the squad's success with a drink. Even I was allowed, despite technically being underage. The liquor was strong, and burnt my throat as it went down. And it had a foul aftertaste. Honestly, I wasn't sure why it was liked so much. But I drank it all anyway. "So." Mains asked as we were all sat down in leather couches. The ODST armour was very flexible, I didn't feel uncomfortable in the least. "What's this mission we're embarking on?" "We'll wait until the others get there before we talk about that. Needless to say, it's vital to our victory. And it's incredibly dangerous." Vice Admiral Cole replied, suddenly all business. Blade nodded. Dangerous? I didn't like the sound of it already. Ah well, I was sure sure we'd all be fine. A memory of Det sacrificing himself on the Covenant ship rose unbidden, and I dismissed it. Jesus, that had been over three months ago. It certainly didn't feel like three months. So much had happened in that time, I was now a fully trained, capable ODST soldier, bane of the Covenant and whoever got in my "goddamn way", as Blade would put it. A deadly weapon in my own right. And whatever the mission would be, I was going to make sure that I killed every Covenant soldier that crossed my path. ************************* One hour earlier "BAM!" Rook shouted, whacking the butt of his rifle into the unsuspecting Grunt guarding the controls. The creature squealed in pain, and attempted to run. Three rounds from the MA2B stopped it in its tracks. "Was there any need to shout like that Rook?" Switch asked warily, flexing his fingers. The electronics expert approached the Covenant console, and furrowed his brow. Micheal stood guard at the entrance to the small room, waiting for Fin and James to return. "Well, that's all the Covenant. And you know, I just wanted to scare the crap out of that Grunt. Worked didn't it? Squealed like a pig." Rook replied defensively. Switch sighed. "Yeah, well, whatever. Now shut up and let me concentrate." Rook also sighed, and stared around the room. It was pretty amazing, the architecture was beyond anything humanity or Covenant could achieve. Blue streaks ran up the wall, almost like electricity. It felt ancient, holy. A whispering echoed through the room, but Rook couldn't understand it. He laughed, it was probably just the wind. Minutes crept by, the only sound breaking the silence was the occasional curse by Switch as he strove the crack the Covenant network. "There we go, ha ha, encrypted my ass!" Switch suddenly shouted triumphantly, and both Rook and Micheal walked over to the terminal. On the screen were two flashing Beacons, with a very high altitude showing. "Whoa, are Blade and Farm Boy flying?" Rook asked in bemusement, and Switch shook his head. "No, too high for that. They seem to be on a ship of some kind. One moment.." Switch typed in a few commands, and suddenly it made sense. The outline of a huge UNSC ship was clearly visible, encompassing the two beacons. "Yep, they're definitely on a ship. I can probably contact it too." Switch said, typing in yet more commands. Suddenly, the room was filled with static from the speakers, until it cleared. "This is Vice Admiral Cole aboard the UNSC Virmire, and you are not on any known frequency. Respond immediately." A human voice spoke, and Rook crowed in success. "Wait, can they even hear us?" Rook asked Switch, but it seemed they could, because a moment later another voice spoke. A familiar one. "Rook? Rook is that you?" Blade asked through the makeshift communicator. "What in God's name are you doing? Where are you?" "Sarge?" Switch asked in puzzlement. "What are you doing with the Vice Admiral?" "You're there too Switch? Well I'll be damned, shut up with your questions and start answering mine! Where are you two?" "Well, we're in this Covenant outpost by that Waterfall we scouted weeks ago sir. We cleared out the Covenant with the help of the Spartans, and I suppose Captain Smithe too. Is Farm-Boy with you?" Switch replied. Smithe was currently keeping watch further along the tunnel. "I just sent him and Mains to go get some armour. I'll tell you who Mains is when you get here. Wait a second while we triangulate your position! And did you just say Smithe was with you?" Blade commanded, managing to ask a question too. "Ah, forget it." Blade suddenly decided. "You can tell me when you get your asses up here. We've got a fix on your location, Cole's sending down a Pelican now. Be ready to leave." "Roger that sir, I'm going to terminate this frequency now sir, it's on a Covenant network and they may be able to hear us. Corporal Switch, signing out." Switch hit a button, and the room went silent. He turned to Rook. "Well, looks like we're getting out of this mess. Come on, let's go catch our ride." [Edited on 07.31.2009 7:22 AM PDT]

 • Part Thirty Three - FNG "It's good to see you Staff Sergeant." "You too Prest--Vice Admiral Cole. It's been a while. I thought you'd retired." Blade replied, in an informal tone. "Called back into duty Blade. It's worth it though, just so we can kick these Covenant bastards out of Harvest once and for all." Cole replied, clenching his gnarled fist to emphasize his point. "You really think we can do it?" "I know we can. Now Blade, we should talk. In private. Is there anything your two squad members should be doing?" Cole looked at me and Mains as he said this. Cole obviously thought Mains was part of our squad. Blade didn't seem to mind. "You two," Blade ordered, and I snapped to attention, "go down to this ship's armory and see if you can get us all some ODST armour. See if you can find an officer's one for me." Blade ordered, and I sighed. We were being shoved out out of the conversation. I walked out of the room, and Mains followed. I was glad no one knew he was actually a URF commander, over the past few weeks I'd come to value his friendship. "So, it seems I've unwillingly become part of your squad then." Mains commented as we walked down the hallway of the ship. "It seems so, for now at least. You don't mind do you?" I asked, worried he might resent the fact. "No, I have no trouble working with you and em..Blade. So tell me, where is the rest of your squad? Surely it isn't just you and Blade?" Mains questioned. "No, there's two others too. Rook and Switch. They're em...I actually don't know where they are. Hopefully they're okay." I felt bad, I hadn't thought once about them since I arrived on the UNSC Virmire. They could be stranded, or dead for all I knew. Then again, they were with Spartans. So I felt confident in the belief they were safe. "Yeah..." Mains muttered, and looked down at the floor. We rounded the corner and found ourselves at the Virmire's armory, a large room full to the brim with technology and weapons. I spotted a man standing in the corner, and assumed he was the Master Gunnery Sergeant. He seemed to be tinkering on a piece of equipment. I cleared my throat rather loudly, and he turned around with his pistol out. He saw we were human, and holstered the weapon, standing up. "You two gave me quite a fright there. How can I help you boys today?" The Master Gunnery Sergeant asked, looking at us with bemusement. He was quite old, younger than Blade, but older than say, Switch was. Grey had begun to infect his hair. "We need some ODST armor, three sets." I replied confidently, and the Gunnery Sergeant frowned. "Well this could be a bit of a problem. See, I ain't got any ODST armor left. Although, I suppose there is the new prototype, came from Sognam just before we left for Harvest." "Prototype?" I asked, my curiosity piqued. "Yep, Navy's been working on it for a long time. Stronger, lighter, and interfaces directly with whatever weapon you may be holding, displaying the ammo count on your HUD. Even them Covie weps too." Master Guns replied, walking over to a cabinet. The man typed in a code on a keypad next to the cabinet, and the door slid away to reveal three suits of the Prototype ODST armour. "And that's not all. You got one of them ODST PDAs son?" Master Guns asked, and I nodded. Well, I did have one, before I lost it. The older armory master continued. "You won't be needing it anymore, not with this suit. It's got a new feature in named the Visual Intelligence System, Reconnaissance. VISR, for short." As he was speaking, he fastened the suit around my clothes, doing up the straps and claps that kept it all together. Wow, it really was light. Finally, the Master Gunnery Sergeant passed me the helmet, which seemed to have a see through visor. I put it on, and the helmet polarized, filling my vision with blue. A moment later, and the visuals clicked in. Master Guns picked up a remote. "Now, VISR has a built in GPS system." Master Guns explained, hitting a button on the remote. I gasped as a full 3-D map of the ship appeared on my screen. Impressive. "You can place way points on it, by using the wrist computer on your arm, and VISR will place a marker on your HUD in real time, pointing you in the right direction." "It also has a low light vision mode." Another button was pressed, and this time I was brought back into the real world, except everything had a glowing line around it. Master Guns and Mains were highlighted in Green, and the scenery was outlined with yellow. "This is particularly useful when dropping into combat at night, and it's very simple to understand. If you see green, squad up. If you see red, shoot." I decided I was keeping the suit. Luckily, when I asked him, Master Guns said I could. Which was great. We also suited Mains out in the ODST Prototype armour too, which he seemed to like. "It's a large step up from when I last wore armour like this." Mains remarked, depolarizing his visor. I did likewise. "Now." Master Guns said knowingly, thrusting another suit of the armour into my hands for Blade. "If you experience any problems with the VISR, don't hesitate to take the helmet off. It's better to be vulnerable and without tech than it is to be blind." I promised him I would, as did Mains, and we thanked him, setting off back to Blade. "Just try not to die in it!" The Master Gunnery Sergeant shouted after us. "We can probably retrieve it, but the blood would be a trial and a half to get off!" I hoped he was joking. Marines walking around the ship stared at us as we walked by, sure, ODSTs weren't as much of a rarity as Spartans, but we still turned heads. Most of them were probably thinking about how we were crazy bastards for dropping into battle like we did. I didn't mind their looks, I just polarized my visor so no one saw my face, and Mains did likewise. We arrived back at the command bridge soon enough, and Blade, to my astonishment, was drinking a glass of whiskey with Cole. I didn't even know Blade drank. They must've known each other really well, as they were laughing together. Blade caught sight of us in our new armour, and stood up with a puzzled frown upon his face. "That armour looks different. Is it new?" Blade asked, and I tried to relay everything Master Guns had told me to him. He seemed satisfied, as he grunted, and asked me to help him put it on. I complied, and within a few minutes Blade was suited up fully too. "This feels good. Shame there wasn't an officer's model, I guess I'll just have to stick a white label on or something. Were these three the only suits available?" Blade asked, and I nodded. Blade tutted, and titled his head in thought. "I guess Switch and Rook will have to make do with their old tech then." • And without further ado, here is Part 32! Finally breaking the rut. I'm loving writing this again. Part 32 - Rescued The Covenant struck in the night. It had been two weeks since I'd arrived at the URF camp, and in that time I'd learnt to be a good leader, thanks to the teachings of Blade. Since the original incident with the recruit Blade shot, which Commander Mains deemed as "a shame", none of the other recruits had hassled me. The day had been hard, and everyone was tired out. Blade and I were about to retire to our quarters when we saw it. Five Covenant drop ships soared over the hill, and rained plasma down on the base, catching many recruits by surprise. The atmosphere instantly changed, as everyone began to run around cursing and trying to find cover, forgetting their training. We took cover within a nearby building, and I leaned against the wall. "These guys just don't give up do they?" I shouted over the roar of the streaming plasma, and Blade grimaced. I looked down at my side, and realised I had no weapon. Nor did Blade. "We need to make a break for the armory!" Blade shouted, and I nodded. Without weapons we were vulnerable. After the count of three, we broke out of cover and ran north. Screams of dying men echoed around us, but we blanked them out. A frightened recruit spotted us and ran over, his head covered by his arms. As if that would stop a superheated bolt of energy. "Sirs!" He screamed. "What do we do? Why are they attacking? What did we ever do to them?" Blade grabbed him by the shoulders, and looked the recruit in the eye. "They're attacking because they can. And I'll you what we do. We fight! And god damn it soldier, we will win!" To my surprise the recruit shook his head violently at Blade's words, and shoved away from his grip. "No...no!" The recruit cried, stumbling backwards. "We can't fight that. You nutters can stay if you want, I'm making a run for it!" "No! Wait!" Blade shouted, lunging out for the recruit's arm. But it was too late. The recruit was already running down the camp, sprinting as fast as he could. He was suddenly stopped as he hit a wall of air, and fell to the ground. The invisible Elite disengaged it's camouflage technology and brought down it's burning blade upon the shocked man's neck. The screams ended. Before the Elite could spot us, we moved out of the area, and carried on towards the armory. As we ran, a different recruit latched onto my leg. His lower torso was missing, and he was screaming and coughing up blood. There was no way he was going to make it. With a look of both pity and disgust, I pushed the man off. No sense in us both dying. Blade and I finally reached the armory, and slammed the heavy steel door behind us. I leaned against the metal wall, and breathed deeply. A voice then sounded from deep within the shadows of the armory. "Who's there?" The voice spoke hoarsely. "That depends on who's asking." Blade replied, grabbing an Assault Rifle from a nearby rack and aiming it at the voice. The figure emerged from the shadows, and I let out a sigh of relief. It was Commander Mains. "I sure am glad to see you two." Mains spoke. "What's going on out there?" "It's a massacre...sir." I replied solemnly. "We don't have anything that can stop them." "Is there any chance of getting reinforcements in Mains?" Blade demanded, asserting control. Mains shook his head wearily. "The nearest URF base is --", his words were drowned about by a large explosion outside of the armory. "-- is on the other side of Harvest's equator. There is another option, but..." Blade was on him in a second. "But what?" Blade asked. "Dammit Mains, don't hold anything back!" The URF Commander looked surprised by Blade's air of authority. "Well, there's a UNSC base some thirty miles back south. But they wouldn't help us we're rebels." A gleam of hope crossed into Blade's eye. "Can you set up a radio connection with them?" Blade asked, and after a few moments Mains nodded. "Probably...but I'd need time. And the radio transmitter's in my office, one the other side of the compound. We'd have to go through a legion of Covenant. And even if we do set up a link, they UNSC will just laugh in our faces." Blade smiled; that mad smile he always wore when about to embark on something ridiculously dangerous. "No they won't, I can guarantee it. You just set up a link, and I'll have reinforcements here in minutes." he said, grabbing equipment from the rack next to him. "What about those Covenant?" I asked. "We're in an armory son, take your pick of weapons. We're gonna battle our way to that office. You ready for combat Mains?" "I guess so." Mains replied uncertainly. "Guess so?" Blade scoffed. "That's no way for a Helljumper to talk, even a retired one. You'll need all the confidence you can muster if you want to get out of this mess alive." ***************************** "I swear to god, that plasma bolt missed my head by inches!" I swore as we barged through the doors of Commander Mains' office. "Stop moaning lad, and be vigilant. We're not safe yet. Not by a long way. Mains, get that radio set up stat!" "Yes sir!" Mains unconsciously said back. He stopped, and looked confused. "Why did I just say sir?" "Trust me, you'll get used to it." I replied. "Now go on, get the radio link up quick." Mains nodded, and hurried over to the old looking equipment at his desk. He began to turn dials, and his face was set into a look of concentration. Blade and I waited for the inevitable wave of Covenant, but none came. Odd, perhaps they were waiting for us to come out. After all, the building had only one exit. A few moments later though, and a crow of triumph came from Mains. "Yes! Connection established Andrew!" He cried, referring to Blade. Blade ran over and shoved Mains out of the way rather rudely. "Hello? You are contacting an unauthorised frequency, who is this?" A voice echoed from the radio. "This is Staff Sergeant Blade of the ODST 106th division. Who am I speaking to?" Blade replied, and my stomach curled. Blade had just announced in front of Mains that he was actually UNSC. "Wait, what?" Mains began to question, but he was drowned out by the reply of the UNSC person on the radio frequency. "And why should I believe that? My private here has just told me that your signal is coming from a known URF base. And I'm Corporal Firez, and I don't think you're being entirely honest." Blade swore, and I noticed his face get red. "God damn it man, I don't have time for this. The Covenant are literally right outside, and we need reinforcements now!" He shouted down the radio. I felt kind of sorry for the man on the other end. "Well I'm going to need your UNSC serial number." Corporal Firez muttered through the radio, sounding a lot less arrogant. Blade sighed, and spouted out a ridiculously long code. I realised I should know my serial number, but I didn't. At the least, the code had an effect. "The code matches...and so do your vocal cords. I'm sorry Staff Sergeant, please forgive my confusion." Firez apologised anxiously. "Shortswords are en route to your position sir. We'll flush out those Covenant for you." "Yeah, well good. Thank you Corporal." The link terminated. There was an awkward silence in the room for a few seconds, until Mains broke it. "So...you're still UNSC." He said to Blade. "And I take it you are too?" He asked of me. I looked down at the floor, feeling incredibly guilty for betraying his trust. "I'm sorry Mains, we would have said, but --" My excuse was suddenly cut out as a deafening roar surged outside, accompanied by explosions and shouts of marines. As one, we all rushed outside. The Covenant were being massacred by the forces attacking. Drop ships fell to barrages of missiles, Elites were dropped by rifles. I let out a sigh of relief, and saw a squad of marines running over to us. "Sir!" The lead one saluted at Blade. "I'm Lance Corporal Garns! Let's get you out of this war zone, you must need some rest." Blade nodded and we followed the Lance Corporal to a Pelican drop ship some hundred meters away. Mains hesitated for a moment, as if unsure what to do; then he followed too. We boarded, and for the first time in weeks, I truly felt safe. A medic was examining Blade, and I assumed he'd come over to me in due time soon. He did. "Who's your friend?" Garns asked, looking at Mains suspiciously. "Mains. I'm comma-- That is to say...sir -- I'm no one." Mains quickly answered, stumbling a bit. "He's a friend." I said definitely, and Mains gave me an empty, but grateful smile. "Yeah, well, he can join us if he wants. The UNSC needs all the help it can get." Garns offered. "So where are we headed?" Blade asked, interrupting. "To that base you came from?" Lance Corporal Garns shook his head. "Have you not heard? Oh, of course you wouldn't have. Vice Admiral Cole has just arrived in system, with the largest fleet ever assembled! He's gonna kick these Covenant scum right out of Harvest! We're to rendezvous with his flagship." "Cole?" Blade suddenly asked, looking up. "Did you just say Cole?" Garns nodded. "He told m--I thought he'd retired." "Well he did sir, but I guess he's back. He asked to see you personally as soon as he heard about you. Why is that sir? Do you know him?" Blade's eyes got a distant look in them. "You could say that." I looked down at the ground, and saw the dead Covenant bodies. Had any of the recruits survived? I doubted it. The marines below were cheering now, and moving back into their Shortswords. The Pelican's hatch closed, and we broke out of Harvest's atmosphere.

 • After a week without internet due to my router short circuiting, and in the process, setting off the smoke alarm, I'm back. On the bright side, I've wrote a lot of Memoirs; book one is nearly finished now. Only eight months after it started too! Yes, I know I'm inconsistent. Anyway, here's Part 31, it focuses on Switch and company, but Part 32 is all about Farm boy and Blade, so it's okay. Enjoy, and please leave feedback if you read. Part 31 - Breaking an entry "Right, I can see two Elites guarding the entrance. One's got blue armour, the other's in red." "What does it matter what colour the armour is?" Rook scoffed in reply to Switch's recon observation. "It matters a lot idiot. The colours could symbolise rank, or skill, or how many kills they've made. I'm pretty sure it's not for fashion." "Yeah, well, they look a lot nice than you." "Shut your trap Rook." Micheal observed the argument with slight amusement. It was strange seeing how normal marines bickered amongst themselves like that; Micheal wouldn't dream of arguing with any of his fellow Spartans. Mendez had taught them well. Speaking of his fellow Spartans, he set up a COM channel with Fin and James. "You two in position?" He asked of them. Two green acknowledgement lights flashed in reply. All was well then. He terminated the channel, not wanting to give the Covenant below a chance to triangulate their position. He turned to the two ODSTs, and the one they called Smithe. "My men are in position. You soldiers green?" Micheal said, un-holstering his MA2B modified Assault Rifle. The gun had a scope built in, as well as a silencer and recoil damper. "Yes sir." Switch replied, nudging Rook in the side to stand up. The two drew out their weapons. Smithe had an uncertain look upon his face. "What's the plan then?" Smithe asked nervously. "Who said anything about a plan? We go in their guns blazing, and then Mr. Computer whiz over there reconfigures the Covenant network to locate Blade and Farm-Boy." Rook replied. "And that's assuming it can be configured, and that they even run a network." Switch added. "But it should be fine; if the worst comes to the worst we can carry out the original plan of taking the drop ship to Midgard." "And that's assuming there still is a Midgard." Rook muttered quietly. "The Covenant wiped out Utgard easily. If they found Midgard too, then it's probably been razed." Switch grunted in reply. Smithe sighed, and likewise drew out his weapon. "Right, everyone's ready then?" Micheal asked again, and this time he received definite nods. The Spartan decided to risk using the COM channel again. "Brown-two, Brown-three, begin diversionary attack." He ordered Fin and James, and surely enough, a moment later, an explosion hit the area by the two Elite sentries, sending them sprawling. A wave of Covenant soldiers poured out, in pursuit of the fleeing Spartans. "Entrance is clear." Micheal said to the troops standing next to him. "Let's move out." They scurried down the hill, and reached the entrance of the ruin. Sure enough, all the Covenant at the mouth of the place had gone off chasing Fin and James. Micheal could see them running off in the distance. Switch whistled in awe at the smooth architecture around them. "This is amazing!" Switch cried, running a gloved hand down the wall. A blue light surged down the structure as he did so, and Switch yanked his hand back worriedly. "Calm down Switch, you'll make a mess." Rook joked, but he was looking around astounded too. Smithe's jaw was agape as he beheld the wonders before him. "I didn't think the Covenant would have had time to build something like this." Micheal remarked, tightening his grip around the rifle he held. Mendez had taught him that the times where everything seemed calmest were often the most dangerous. "No...no I don't think this is Covenant." Switch breathed. "Well if they didn't build it, who did?" Rook asked confusedly. "I don't know. Perhaps humans weren't the first ones to colonise Harvest." "Or maybe it was the Covenant who built it, then they left for a while and came back only to find us here. Maybe that's why they attacked us, you know, en roaching on their turf." "Perhaps." Switch said sceptically. "But I don't think so. Anyway, we better get moving, it won't be long before those Covenant soldiers give up their chase." Everyone nodded in affirmation. They continued down the passage; which eventually narrowed down so that they had to move in single file. Micheal had particular trouble squeezing in with his MJOLNIR suit, so much so that he had to turn to the side to fit. Rook, who had taken point, suddenly held up a hand; a signal for them to stop. "I've got five Grunts, up high a 10 o Clock." He whispered, drawing out his silenced M7 Sub-Machine gun. He activated the laser pointer, and a red beam appeared upon the foremost Grunt. One of the other Grunt's noticed, and squealed a high pitched bark. A second later, Rook pulled the trigger of the weapon five times, and the Grunts fell one by one with a whisper. The rag tag squad moved, taking cover behind a Covenant supply crate. Micheal poked his above, and saw an Elite, garbed in black armour, come across the dead Grunts up on the ledge. It bent down and saw the bullet wounds, confirming or it that humans were amongst him. He drew a burning Energy sword and roared a challenge, which Micheal was ready to answer. The Spartan leaped up onto the ledge and grabbed the Elite from behind. The Elite screamed in surprise, and attempted to bring it's sword arm around to engage it's foe. Before it could though, Micheal kicked it in the stomach, breaking through it's energy shields and sending it sprawling to the floor in pain. Micheal raised a boot, and prepared to bring it down upon the downed Elite's neck. Before he could though, the Elite rolled to the side, and lunged for Micheal. The blade pierced through the Spartan's tough armour, and sunk deep into his side. Micheal gasped in pain, and could smell flesh burning. The world swam before his eyes, and he could vaguely hear the Elite laughing. The Covenant warrior drew his blade out of Micheal's side, prompting another gasp of agony, and prepared to stab down again. Just before it did though, a blue object sailed towards the Elite, and latched onto it. The Elite's eyes widened when he saw the Plasma grenade stuck to it's chest, and tried in vain to rip it off. The grenade exploded in a violent cloud of plasma, sending Micheal sprawling off the ledge. He clasped his side, and looked with dismay when his hand came away drenched in warm, sticky blood. "You okay Spartan? Lucky I had that grenade eh?" Rook asked, coming to his side. "Holy crap, that's a lot of blood. Switch! We got any bio-foam?" "No, we lost it all when the Covenant attacked. Why? Is he badly hur?-oh God." Micheal dismissed their shock ; he'd been in worse pain before. With a grunt, he stood up. "I'm fine. Just a scratch. Come on, let's keep moving." He said, picking up his Assault Rifle from the floor. Micheal noticed Rook and Switch look at each other in disbelief, and Smithe wore a similar expression too. Then the two ODSTs nodded, and followed after him. [Edited on 07.21.2009 9:40 AM PDT]

 • Oh, I know your one. I think your prologue is a little too long, aim for it to be half the size of what a normal part would be, if that. Strike Team Razor is a good name, a potentially good idea would be to put 'Halo:' before it, just to let people know.
