Barrier melee suggestions (Titans, get in here)

Improve it

Leave it how it is

The defender class is fairly well balanced, and well suited for Control points. But the biggest issue with it is the barrier melee. Countless times I have gotten locked in a fistfight to the death, only to die as well, despite my opponent disintegrating into the void. Compare this to the warlock melee shield, and it's a pretty sad story. *cue sad violin* But there is a way to fix this issue! Make the Barrier Melee activated by punching past shields, not by killing enemies, so whenever it does damage to base health, you gain the force barrier. This would also make it a more viable ability in PvE, where it's dangerous to try and punch a high level enemy to death just so you can get a shield. Thoughts? I'll gladly update the OP with other suggestions from fellow defenders. Gfunk35:
shields plus full force barrier and a sniper headshot still is a one shot. That has to change too. That should be the first head shot takes both shields and then *maybe* some health.
JusticeSquad77
many people make a good point that generally in higher level PvE play you don't want to be getting up close. This should not be the case for the Defender Titan!
aKrazyDutchman
Making the titan melee the same would just make more people (voidwalkers, strikers and hunter players primarily) feel like they were put in unfair positions.
Hylebos
I definitely agree that melee abilities that trigger only when you kill an enemy with it make me sad, especially when it's something like the Voidwalker's Life Drain perk which very rarely kicks in because the base ability triggers on hit but the perk triggers on death, meaning that unless you ensure that your next melee kills, you'll rarely trigger the perk. I digress. Barrier melee should definitely be improved, and in general I wouldn't mind seeing Bungie do a rebalancing pass over all of the class's perks to try to create more interesting build choices / niches.
magburner
I posted something similar a month or so ago. The oversheild provided by Blessings of Light, should become the Force Barrier. If it did become the Force Barrier, Defender Titans, could then pass on elements of their skill tree, to their allies.
EDIT: I would also like to add that the defender subclass is a selfless subclass, the grenades are pretty meh for getting kills, orb generation is priority, and the super itself is meant to defend your pack, not to earn glory via a triple kill. Bungie says that the game is all about teamwork, so why is the ultimate team-player subclass so underpowered?

 • Flame shield comes in Handy but force barrier is actually considerably stronger, it's built into the subclass while flame shield is just an option... Go look at some of the perks that buff force barrier, relentless, war machine, the rechargeable shield one... If Titans were to get all that off of one punch.....
i have 2 Titans and a warlock
