I grew up through the Vietnam era and the Cold War. We were rather indoctrinated to expect it to happen in our lifetimes. The players keep changing though.

Well ISIS took over Ramadi recently. Now if they get to Baghdad then they control the oil and America would freak out. Nah this probably wouldn't cause a world war though. I can guarantee one thing though, WW3 will probably be nuclear which would result in the Earth being in ruins. A war of this type is quite a possibility If we look at our past. The cause would probably be over something meaningless like communism vs democracy, atheism vs Christianity (or any other religion), or spreading of ideologies *cough* ISIS
