What's the best solution if Thorn gets Nerfed?

Keep Thorn as it is.

436

Decrease Mark of the Devourer's duration, renew the effect on hit.

33

Drop Mark of the Devourer's damage, have the effect stack each hit.

23

Mark of the Devourer ends after the user is killed.

63

Lower the overall Impact of Thorn.

22

Remove Send It and Final Round from Thorn's upgrade path.

15

Decrease Thorn's Rate of Fire and Stability.

63

Please take your time to consider each option. Thank You. *Note: This poll's purpose is to figure out what the best solution is if Thorn does receive a Nerf in the future.
(Before I created this poll I created a few others to try to gather some data on this matter. Below you will find links to those polls and a brief conclusion of my findings.) -----
Do you own a Thorn? -Poll https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/119422855/0/0 Do you think Thorn needs a Nerf? -Poll https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/119417962/0/0
Around 75% of players who participated in the poll said they own a Thorn. And only 20% of players who participated in the poll think Thorn should receive a Nerf of some kind.
----- It's easy to say Thorn is the most used exotic in the Crucible at this moment, and because of that, it is most likely going to receive a Nerf wether we want it or not. It will be revised because of its constant overuse in the crucible just like it's predecessors before: Suros Regime, Vex Mythocast, and Pocket Infinity. And If we see Thorn being Nerfed in the future, we know the next thing is The Last Word, Red Death and Felwinters Lie. It will become a never ending pattern as long as their system stays the same. ----- I created this poll hoping to find a compromise. I know I can't keep Thorn the way it is unless everything else changes, so I conjured up this list of the most reasonable ideas I could find. You'll notice the majority of the options are in regard to the Mark of the Devourer perk since above 30% of players, who are in favor of Thorn's Nerf, had this major problem with it. Each option on this list was a solution that was continually suggested by the community. ----- Community Suggestions
Captain_Otaku223
I think it should stay as powerful as it is in crucible but I notice that the first shot it the only one that gives them the effect. I think each time you fire the time of the effect should be extended. But it does need increased damage in pve
TheDarkLight
How about extend the duration of the poison effect but make it so it doesn't kill you...
ClownSlick
If you dance, dot should stop.
Kellygreen2
Thorn is fine the way it is. It's power is appropriate to the length and difficutly of the bounty necessary to earn it. Hand Cannons have been nerfed once already this year. They are not OP. The reason why they are running wild right now is because Bungie has yanked the teeth of allt he other close range weapons in the game that used to keep them in check. Fusion Rifles got nerfed. Shotguns got PvP-nerfed, and then had their ammo restricted. ...and ARs got nerf-bombed back to the Stone Age. You need to reverse the damage nerf for ARs, and relax the stranglehold on special ammo some. If you nerf HC....all people will do is switch to PRs and SRs. Then we'll be here in two month with dozens of posts of how Ghelion's Demise, Mida Muli-tool, Red Death and Bad Juju need to be nerfed. It'll never stop.....

Feel free to discuss any solutions to this problem. I will include my favorite suggestions above.

    • Clearly the "system" is not working. Fusion Rifles, Auto Rifles and Shotguns have all tanked in PvP. They're going to continue nerfing everything until you can't get any sort of kill through the horrific latency. It's the wrong way to go about this.

The last word is worse lol.. and the thorn is crazy ill say that. Because a precision shot is 84 + 7 +7 +7+7(burn). That's 112 from one headshot. That is crazy . That's stronger than a hawkmoon without the holding aces. But to be honest dude just give em a taste of their own medicine. They won't nerf thorn dude. So just get you one and f*** em up

I have completed 4 Thorn bounties. I use it and I get killed by it. It has weaknesses like every other gun. I am tired of all these nerf related posts. Bungie needs to fix the raids, ui, vault, and add more content not fukc around with pvp gun balancing because of a few crucibabies. Fukc all this pvp nonsense. Go play CoD.

          • I just think that the fact it can two shot people consistently should be looked at.

          •
I am undecided. Before I was a die hard "Don't nerf Thorn" but I am also a reasonable person. While I have no problems countering Thorn with superior gunplay, Thorn presents problems that it shouldn't if balance is what Bungie seeks. Personally, I stay behind cover, strafe, aim for the head while being unpredictable to beat a Thorn user. While I can beat it with planning, I shouldn't have to. I shouldn't have to change my strategy to counter a specific weapon. On the other side of the coin, the Thorn user doesn't have to take such precautions. They have the upper hand in a standard gunfight unless the prey takes the necessary precautions to even the odds. No other weapon makes me change my engagement plans (except the Last Word but that's because it only excels at a certain range). And if balance is what Bungie seeks, then Thorn should be looked at and nerf'd carefully. I'm not saying it's unbeatable, because it's not. I can beat it with any given primary exotic that's not an auto rifle, no land beyond or universal remote in a reasonable amount of time. But what I am saying is that it is some levels ahead of other exotics. Thorn has little weakness contrary to every other exotic primary and using one already gives you an edge on the competition. With all this said. If they asked me to nerf it, I wouldn't make such drastic changes as some of these anti-thorn people are. I would simply tone down the poison to 4 or even 3. It just doesn't seem fair to hit someone twice in the head and run. But it also doesn't sound fair to reduce the gun's stats so that no one wants to use it. *cough SUROS Regime* I will be just fine if they don't nerf it. I will continue to excel in the cruicble. However if balance is the end goal here, rationally it should be nerf'd but only in a small way like I suggested.
• just leave it the -blam!- alone, nerfing guns isn't going to do any good in PvP, how many times have weapons been nerfed and people just keep coming back to bitch about the next best one?

              • Make it 3 headshot kill weapon and not 2 if other stats are the same. Or keep it 2 headshot kill with reduced stability and accuracy. Trials of Osiris will be nothing more than Thorns and shotguns if nothing is done.

                    • You are missing the correct option. That option would be for a better net code that would allow for better and fair game play. Bungie is using a crap version because it's cheaper on there pocket book. Please educate your self on the net code issue and start demanding a better one. The current type they are using is the real advantage players have over you with any weapon.

It can kill people pretty fast with minimum effort for sure as long as your a good aim but I usually win anyways cuz I run with fusions, if not I can still win a fight with a pulse rifle. But when you have more than one thorn against you, it can get annoying. I think the sound effect and visual effect of the mark should not be so dramatic, it startles you kind of and distracts you and that's what makes it annoying.

                                • Remember when it was so bad in pvp that it wasn't worth the time and effort to unlock? Now it's great maybe too great but scrubs are always going to need a crutch to make them feel like they are good. There are plenty of better weapons in the game.
