Sands of Deceit, a Collaboration between Jcaf8 and SmashingFool899

A Titan transmatted down to the surface of Mars. Instinctively he scanned his surroundings. He saw nothing but the endless Martian dunes. Orbital coms were down, so he was forced to travel on foot. But he didn't mind. It gave him more time to think about the mission. A few days prior, the Vanguard lost all Martian surveillance on the Cabal. They were going to choose an elite fireteam of Guardians to send to Mars to investigate, but the Titan had volunteered to go alone. He preferred solitude in the field. Soon his Ghost informed him that the Warbase was just ahead. The Guardian silently acknowledged and raised his scout rifle instinctively. The blowing sands reduced visibility drastically, so he decided to go to a higher vantage point in order to scan the entrance to the Warbase. Once he reached the top of a nearby dune, he scoped in with his rifle to see the entrance to the Warbase. It was completely unguarded. Something wasn't right. He approached carefully and deployed his Ghost to breach the entrance. It opened quickly enough to raise suspicion on their part. Swapping to his shotgun because he expected a close quarters fight, he entered and advanced through the base, checking each hall with care on his way to the center chamber. All was silent. When he reached the entrance to the center chamber it slid open automatically. The Titan sensed a trap. He was ready for it. He entered into the large room and looked around. It was wide open for the most part, but huge crates of ammunition and Cabal control consoles littered the room. Suddenly the immense blast doors on the far side on the room slid open loudly. A squad of Cabal boost jumped into battle. The squad consisted of a handful of battle hardened legionaries, a few phalanx carrying enormous shields, and a single, angry looking centurian backing them up. Reactively the Titan tossed a blinding arc grenade into the mass of Cabal and slid behind cover. The centurian responded with a barrage of explosives rounds from his projection rifle, forcing the Guardian out of cover. He charged the disoriented Cabal head-on, dispatching them one by one with rapid blasts from his shotgun. He finished off a legionary with a powerful arc-charged punch before getting slammed away by a phalanx's shield. Immediately the remaining enemies continued their attacks, and the Titan knew he didn't stand a chance of surviving. Unless.... He leapt into the air and slammed the ground with both fists, releasing a maelstrom of arc Light that destroyed the remaining enemies instantly. The Guardian reloaded his weaponry before continuing his advance through the base. In the room behind where the Cabal had made their ambush, the Titan saw something he wasn't expecting. "Guardian down!" exclaimed his Ghost. The Titan approached the body carefully. It was a Hunter. None if the Traveler's Light remained in him. His sidearm was still in his hand, and it was evident that he hadn't gone down without a fight, although no dead Cabal lay nearby. The Hunter's cannon was gold, with the name Tex Mechanica inscribed on it. The Guardian's Ghost was nearby, but it was also dead. Destroyed, in fact. The Titan carefully recovered the weapon before noticing a strange, purple aura eminating from a nearby door... This was a collaboration with my friend and fellow Titan Jcaf8. Props to him for helping me out. We had to do it over Private Message, which is the main reason it's a bit short. If you would like to see more, please bump and give us feedback. Thank you very much for reading, and have a nice day Guardian. ;)
