If you sit down (animation on D-pad) you will stop DoT (thorn) effect.

walking into the very middle of an opening and dancing also works. Try shooting the ground in below you with a rocket launcher as well. Most grenades also make you invincible if you throw them at your feet (especially warlock scatter grenades or hunter incendiaries).
