Does anyone have any tips for me, I'm on my first playthrough ever and I'm still getting used to the game. Any veterans out there have tips on what armour or weapons to use early on in the game and also tactics if you have any? Any help would be much appreciated.

Find a good shield and a one handed weapon. Make a STR build since they are the easiest to play as and easier to maintain rather than anything else.

Well for starters get your adaptability up to at least 25 I think. You'll get more invincibility frames when you roll but after 25-30 you won't see that much of a significant change without having to put a lot of souls into leveling it up. For weapons, I vary from 1h to GS to UGS. The Varangian, although a low drop rate, is excellent and you can get it, with patience, at the place where it's extremely dark and you have to go on a boat. For a UGS, beat the pursuer boss fight and get his soul to make his sword later on. Conveniently, after that boss fight there's a place you can drop down in his fighting room where you can get a nice GS and a good set of armor.

Try to get the Sun Sword, you get it at rank 3 in the Sunbro covenant (I forget the name of it.) it starts out with B scaling in both strength and dex and goes to A when fully reinforced.

The mace is God-tier for blunt damage. Any armored target will take a lot of damage and even against non armored targets it stills boasts good damage.

Weight below 70% and use long swords or something similar until you can buy the uchikatana or until you get a black katana

Praise the sun and all will be well.

Try praising the sun

Halberd is love, halberd is life

Get used to people being dicks

Light armor. POWERSTANCE FUGGIN GREATSWORDS +10 WRECK SHIT. My beginning build and strategy, folks

Keep your weight load below 70%. The Bastard sword is a good early to mid game choice. I just beat the executioner chariot with it at +9

Equip armor that still lets you roll fast Once you get better it's all about fashion souls because armor is largely irrelevant

Long swords are good for first playthroughs. Don't level up strength or dex, however, unless there is a weapon you want to use but dont have the stats for. Invest in health and endurance your first go.

But the Alva armor from maughlin the armorer in Majula. You need to spend 16000 souls before it becomes available. The whole set costs 25000 souls. I recommend farming Heidi's tower. Try to get a Heide knight sword as well. It's too good.

Get used to rolling and when to roll to avoid any damage. Practice on low damage guys in the beginning. I don't usually pay attention to armor until I get further in the game and can get the set I want. I use a long sword upgraded until I get the greatsword. I have a high strength build with low armor because I dodge everything Even though I use the greatsword which is slow I play like a dex player. But for beginners if dodging is a little too hard for you to get used to definitely find a shield that blocks most if not all physical damage and block everything. Sorry I don't know the names of any armor I use in beginning or any shields. :( get good at rolling and striking then rolling away again. And have lots of patience :p
