SSD rapidly losing space

So I've had my computer that I built for about a mouth and iv noticed that I'm losing space gradually. I got on it today and my sdd when from 85.5 to 84.1. Every now and then I randomly lose space like this. What could be causing this. I know that steam could use some ssd space but I doubt it would take up this much.

  • are you doing a lot of write cycles? every write to a flash memory NAND cell damages it ever so slightly. this results in a gradual performance degradation that will eventually fail permanently and irrecoverably. most SSDs are rated between 3-5 years depending on the technology and components used. the very best will stand up to at least a petabyte of constant read/write/erase cycles before dying. what brand/model/capacity SSD?
