My opinion is that the weapons in Destiny are not balanced, and that some weapons are more valid than others in both PVP and PVE, regardless of range. Here are the ways that I would like weapons to be changed to balance them enough that every weapon type is a valid option and so that TTK in PVE doesn't increase to the point where the game isn't fun.
[b]Auto Rifles:[/b]
Revert to Beta stats, and then apply a nerf to body damage and a buff to precision damage.
[b]Hand Cannons:[/b]
Change nothing.
[b]Pulse Rifles:[/b]
Keep the stats at their current levels. Change the mechanics so that either a burst counts as one round, or so that a skilled player can interrupt a burst to save ammunition.
[b]Scout Rifles:[/b]
Nerf body damage, but increase precision damage. Scout rifles should reward people who can get head shots, and punish people who can't.
[b]Fusion Rifles:[/b]
Reverse the most recent nerf to projectile spread.
[b]Shotguns:[/b]
Change nothing.
[b]Sniper Rifles:[/b]
Nerf body damage, but increase precision damage. Sniper rifles should reward people who can get head shots at medium to long range, and punish people who can't.
[b]Machine Guns:[/b]
Change nothing.
[b]Rocket Launchers:[/b]
Change nothing.
[b]Crucible Ammunition:[/b]
Either increase the current drop rate or cause both special and Heavy Ammunition to fill a player to capacity.
