You walk past the crucible handler and take a right around the corner and arrive at the nightfall recruitment center. Those that have completed the weeks nightfall can talk to an npc and enter a matchmaking process to get linked with somebody who needs help with the nightfall.
Those that need help can approach this npc and pay 500 glimmer upfront to hire somebody to help them through the week's nightfall.
Upon completion a sum of 5500 glimmer is paid to the merc that helped (can be refused by the merc) and the merc is also awarded with 250 reputation points.
--------------
If this was a reality I would run people through the nightfall all the time. Good rep bonus, I'd refuse the glimmer payment and I help people all the time anyways so this would make it easy to find people to help.
If it is just me that likes this idea that's cool but if you think it would be a cool addition to the game please upvote and bump.
Also if you have any criticisms or suggestions I will definitely take a look and refine the idea with a consideration towards the feedback.
------------------------------------------------------
Edit: I will list some concerns that people bring up so that we can try and figure them out.

There should be some sort of qualification to become a merc. My thought is maybe they should need to be no more than one level below the current level cap. For example the current lvl cap is 32 so the merc must be either 31 or 32.

There would need to be some form of troll prevention. A couple people have also offered this concern and I definitely think it is a pretty big one. I'm not sure the best way to take care of it. My first thought is to allow a merc 2 failures per week so that the few people that are trolling get booted before they can ruin too many peoples strikes. suggestions welcome.

There might be a problem with the customer just going afk. Not too sure how big of a problem it would be or how to fix it.

This sounds fantastic and i wish it were a feature. 10/10 quality post OP thanks for sharing.

I like it!

Niiiiiice. Bump so bungie can see this post.

If customer afk he can't use merc service for x amount of time.
-
Bump! I wanna be a MERK yeah =)
-
Nightfall?? Mssg for inv. Gt same as above
-
Nice idea; might need a few modifications, especially the issues you've listed at the bottom. Still, it would be a nice substitute to the more manual "matchmaking" Bungie has left us with. Something like this could work real well for the Raids as well.
-
I like it. We should get radiant materials for it like 2 or 3 per completion. But then i guess we'd just farm it until we had all we needed
-
Great original idea - double bump!
-
I think 5k is a bit much, maybe 2k? Nightfalls aren't nearly as hard as people make them out to be. Running them in 20 minutes is usually normal. I think a good troll prevention method would be to penalize them by removing their Radiant Light bonus until they beat it again.

What would you think of having a merc rep? It would act much like vanguard rep, but with constant effects instead of random postmaster drops. All of these would only be active when mercing a nightfall. Rank 1) build glimmer for kills as if using ether seeds, black wax, ect. These items would not stack effects. Rank 2) 2 rare engram's will drop as a completion reward. Rank 3) a very small chance for legendaries added to the loot table. Rank 4) slightly increased odds of legendary drop Rank 5) further increase of legendary drop, and very small chance of exotic drop added to the loot table. After reaching rank 5 the rep bonus becomes vanguard rep bonus. This would also help to curb trolling, and possibly be used to allow the "employer" to see how seasoned a merc is.

Merc gets strange coins for helping others through with zero deaths. Less per return to orbit, eventually leading to zero coins after 3 return to orbits. Or something like that...

This is an amazing idea that allows more player to player interaction as well as fill leadership roles. I definitely want to see this as part of the game.
-
Good idea, but that's not really the most important thing to do
-
Bump. Love it. Offers match making, and let's me Solo it as well.
-
Love the idea. I would hire myself out in a heartbeat. 1) merc rewards are fair. I may consider lowering cost to 2000 or 2500 glimmer. Final Fantasy 14 uses a tipping system for craftsmen so maybe that could be incorporated for those willing to give more. 2) to prevent greedy trolling, mercs should get no glimmer if the attempt is failed. 3) mercs should have prerqs, but I'm thinking that completing the nightfall for the week, and being in the boosted state would be good enough. 4) to prevent trolling or afking: if either person leaves they lose half glimmer, and lose nightfall bonuses for the week. Unless a bungie server error of course.

Id love to do this. I love nightfalls. I'd do a few every night if there were some incentive to do so. I typically run 8 - 10 a week anyway running buddies and randoms through.
-
I love this idea. I help out a few friends with Nightfalls each week and have sometimes done upto 15 in a week. Would be nice to get rewarded for that. I have 2 additional ideas. 1st is quite simple. The Merc should get a list of those wanting help so they can choose who to help in order to be able to help out their friends for the rewards. 2nd is the rewards. I have 2 ideas. Either there should be a Gold, Silver, Bronze reward for how well they perform (maybe based on kills/completion time) or there should be a few choices of reward. Eg. maybe have a choice of Glimmer, shards/energy or marks.
-
Sounds great. My only problem is that people would try an go AFK and have the merc do everything: perhaps if they go AFK for too long, the instantly lose the 5,500 glimmer that is payment, but don't get NF rewards? That way, you still need to work.
-
Sounds like a good idea. Would they already have two people or be able to hire 2 mercs? Or would it just be you and the "client" so to speak. And that would be quite expensive to get a couple ascendant energies(because nightfalls are always SO rewarding) if the 5000 glimmer came from the player and not the bounty robot or whatever. Also, I'd hope there wouldn't be a penalty if they had to leave before completion. Emergencies/girlfriends moodiness happens after all. Anyway, great way for helpful people to have another outlet to help while also being rewarded

BUMP!! NICE

I like this idea. Bump.
-
I want regular matchmaking but I like this idea! Introduces an actual community element that is sorely missing from the game.
-
This is the best original idea I've seen on the forums. Guardians helping guardians. LFG can be a painful process sometimes, but the ability to pay 500 glimmer for a merc application is great. Player x pays player y 500. At the end, player y must hold x to accept or hold y to reject the completion award. Genius. Please do this bungie.
