I just spent my last 13 strange coins on Starfire Protocol for my level 17 Warlock. I figured it'd be good for her to have an Exotic waiting for her when she hit 20. But now I'm seeing some reviews saying it's not good for much other than collecting.
Did I just waste 13 strange coins? Would it have made more sense to just stock up on heavy ammo synths for my other 2 guys?

I think it's great, instead of the two grenade perk during radiance, you can have lingering damage and two fusions (it's exotic perk), maybe have high discipline gauntlets/boots/helmet for more nades during radiance.
-
No you didn't. I'm a Hunter to the heart but I know it is still good.
-
It's pretty good depending on how you want to play. I use star fire protocol for my voidwalker in the crucible (even if it's a sunsinger exotic) simply because I don't have any other chest gear that gives as much intellect for super energy as Starfire. All my raid gear has 0 intellect, and everything else is just really low. Plus, you can use its double grenade perk and instead of use the gift of the sun perk you can use one of the other 2 perks.
-
No, you wanna get leveled up as quickly as possible
-
Hell no. You made a great choice. Starfire is one of my top 3 favorite exotics for warlock. Radiance with double nades and lingering damage beats Hoftpf for me. Hotpf is only good during your super. Starfire is good at anytime
-
There are better exotics, but you did not waste coins. It is a pretty solid piece of equipment in its own right, and can help your warlock get a quick boost in light levels.
-
If you didn't have an exotic warlock armor then no. If you did... Probably lol
-
Heart of Praxic Fire can be used with any grenades. Not a waste but limiting
-
its absolutely not a waste bud. I love it. gives u 2 fusion nades so u can use other perks that come in handy.
-
I don't think it is a waste and it does come in to play in some cases but over all there are much better exotics for that exotic spot
-
Take your hand and smack your forehead very hard over and over........smh
-
Any crappy exotic is better than no exotic.

Edited by sh0ck: 4/22/2015 3:59:22 AM3 weeklies next week will get you 27 coins. Don't worry about it. I actually like the Starfire protocol at times. Starfire with that grenade burn can be epic against Roc strike bosses.

It's 13 coins..

It's 13 coins...

I wouldn't say wasted. Its not a bad one to have on hand.

It's not that it's bad it's just that there are better alternatives: PvE : Heart of Praxic Fire PvP: Voidfang Vestments 2x Ignite Fusion grenades are insanely powerful. Praxic Fire will clean adds faster but Starfire gets an edge over stronger, especially shielded, enemies. I'd compare it to Truth vs Gjallarhorn. Truth is an amazing launcher, best-in-class in nearly every stat. When compared to Gjallarhorn however it loses some of it's appeal. Note: If Starfire allows your Warlock to level up and start running Weeklys your investment will pay for itself.

Worst exotic I've gotten so far
-
I like fusion grenades and I like to ignite enemies ablaZe I think it's good
-
It's actually not that bad, heart of praxic fire is better, but the starfire should serve you well. I used it on my warlock until I maxed my HoPF

I don't understand why this exotic is so disliked. The mentality that seems to exist in the vocal part of this community is, if something is not as good as the very best, then it's rubbish. It can't be mediocre, average, quite good or not bad. It's either the best thing available or it's rubbish. Starfire Protocol is a good, actually very good, piece of chest armour. Everyone tends to agree that Heart of the Praxic Fire is the very best, but I would argue that Starfire is not far off it. Starfire has the same ammo perks as HotPF, heavy (complete waste for a 32 unless using IB boots), and fusion. It has a very decent perk in that it gives you a 2nd fusion grenade. This limits you to a particular grenade type but as it's often the best grenade in many situations, it's quite a good perk. Finally, it's a full Intellect item meaning it's easier to have you super ready quicker. In my opinion, Starfire is not quite as good as Obsidian Mind and HotPF due to both of their signature perks being more useful. But for Sunsingers, Starfire certainly isn't a bad choice. Plus, it looks awesome!

You have two characters that can run the weekly at 30, so 18 strange per week. Enough to buy whatever whenever. Don't worry about it
-
Starfire tries to be the armamentarium of warlocks, but it only grants an extra fusion grenade so it's far less useful, especially when you consider that you have to be a sun singer to take advantage of it, which means you could just use gift of the sun. Overall not a great exotic, but it's useable until you get something better like Praxic Fire or obsidian mind, both are fantastic exotics.
-
It's an ok exotic piece. If the choice was between buying it or heavy synth, you did the right thing.
-
Not really if you get the chance get HoPF tho it's Infinitly better
-
Maby but I'm a hunter what do I know
