Back to Bo'Ark Part 2

Part 2: With a new day rising and nearly all information about the Cabal exhausted Bo’Ark is left wanting. Aegis implores that they find a way off of Mars and back to the Tower. Bo’Ark dismisses him, pointing out that there are many things left to be learned about this race, and that if they stay just a little longer they can gather that information. Despite more nagging to leave this planet Bo’Ark heads back to where he re awoke. The trek back was surprisingly silent considering the ruckus that followed shortly after his rebirth. Foot prints of these supposedly uncultured behemoths littered the sand, leading toward the machine and metal from an old manufacturing plant not far from where he was resurrected. The building had a large symbol painted on its side at one time, though the majority of it was faded by sand, and what remained was barely legible due to various cracks and holes in the structure. “Any idea what it said?” The exo said to his ghost inquisitively, nodding toward the factory. “… Not specifically no, this planet had a lot of factories and enterprises. It could be any of them.” Bo’Ark said nothing, looking away from his ghost and back toward the factory. “Let’s see what they were looking for.” He said as he walked through the open door way, ghost following along with a hidden sense of curiosity. As they entered the building they could see skid marks from objects being dragged out of the room. “Whatever they came for… it looks as though they found it.” Aegis said, looking around the room. He flittered over to the stairs, noting that there were no marks coming from the floor above. “But perhaps, they didn’t get everything.” He said, hoping to invite his guardian toward the stairs, but Bo’Ark had again become transfixed on a single point. This time however, it was less a feeling of curiosity, and more of familiarity. Aegis floated back over to Bo’Ark, stopping right above his shoulder, then turned to look at the logo on the wall that was drawing his attention. “Ooooh, so that’s what the symbol was on the side of the building.” He said, finally drawing the exo’s attention. “Do you recognize it? He continued. “Yes… and no.” Aegis inspected his guardian again, thinking carefully about his next words before he spoke up. “You know, there may be some information on your history here, or at least some records on this building. Like I said, they seem to have ignored the next floor.” Bo’Ark glanced over to the stairs and looked back, giving Aegis a nod before they left for the room above. The next floor was, as they had hoped, un-looted. It was much larger than the shrouded outer building led them to believe, containing multiple machines and seven rows of desktop computers, most of which looked decrepit or outright broken. Piles of sand and dust had started building up against the sides and keyboards of the computers, as well as filling up most of the corners of the room. “This must have been the one of the filing rooms.” Aegis said as he flew over to the first row of computer monitors. As he began to scan them one by one for functionality Bo’Ark walked around the room, occupying his time while he waited for anything his ghost could pull up. When he walked past the second to last row an item caught his eye. Standing erect from a side port on the monitor was a long, thin circular object. It looked like a white sphere, perhaps a ball or the moon, an odd shape regardless. He stopped and reached out to pull it out when the sound of distant engines alerted him and Aegis to an incoming threat. Aegis spoke up. “We should leave… before this gets ugly. Without a weapon our luck will only go so far.” Bo’Ark flexed his hand, wrapping his mechanical fingers around the object and pulled it out. He nodded and started for the stairs but stopped midstride when he heard the engines of the Harvester pull to a stop, followed by several subtle thumps of the individual soldiers. Armor rattled with every thunderous step toward the building. “Looks like our luck has already run out” Aegis said in a hushed toned. Bo’Ark walked away from the stairs and back toward a door in the corner of the room, despite it being filled with sand there was just enough space for him to tuck behind the door frame and against the wall. The Cabal soldiers below were making a ruckus, pounding against the walls and pushing anything that was left around in what sounded like a desperate attempt to find something they missed before. After several minutes of seemingly mindless pounding and kicking there was a sudden roar and clash of armor that stopped the others ruckus. Despite these unnerving noises Bo’Ark listened as intently as possible, sitting motionless, trying not to sully their conversation and understand them as much as possible. From what he gathered, one of them had angered the other by knocking some large object onto its foot, and thus the fight had started. He couldn’t tell which one was at fault, or why something so trivial had brought up such a violent reaction, but he knew that any militarist society had to have some way to keep the order. And so it came, a distinctly different thump of a footstep. Coming in through the entrance of the building was a likely the leader of the squad, and it wasted no time rushing to the fight, pulling them apart and throwing them from each other. He roared and grunted, thumping his chest once before making some motion that shook his armor. Bo’Ark guessed that he motioned for the others to search the floor above them, based on the movement he heard going up the stairs. “Maybe we should have just made a run for it” Aegis whispered with a tone of dread evident in his voice. Bo’Ark stayed firm. Three Cabal soldiers walked up the steps and began rooting around; just as they had below they began to push unwanted or broken machines away and looked around for anything of value. Footsteps grew louder as one of the gargantuan beasts walked closer to the door. Both Bo’Ark and his ghost stayed silent, hoping to stay hidden long enough for an opening to show itself. Just as its footsteps sounded just outside the doorway an angered roar came from below, a call to arms; but against what? *Schakooom* An explosion resonated through the building, followed by mechanical chirps and yelps. The three Cabal in the room turned and head downstairs to join the fight against whatever poor creature dared interrupt their mission. Aegis spoke up, “We should be ready to leave, it sounds like they are going to be fighting those Vex for a while.” Bo’Ark finally moved, peeking around the door just in time to catch the last glimpse of one of the Cabal that ran down to aid its brothers. He dashed from the doorway over to the stairs, listening to the battle ensue just outside its walls. Teeth gnashed as the Cabal growled and bellowed at the intruders, armor shifted and shook, shots fired from both sides. What he did not hear however, was their leader just now walking to the door, unfazed by the dangers outside. So I realized about halfway through that my story wasn't going to fit in just a single part, I should be able to get it all in the next post so stay tuned. I hope you enjoy this story and please feel free to offer constructive criticism. Part 1, if you happened across this before reading the first part, this may bring you up to speed. Be warned though that it is a bit rough. XD I will link to my other story after I finish getting these posted. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/91487475/0/0 Part 3, sorry forgot to paste it here when I put it up. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/104779400/0/0
