I mean, wat? And where the hell did the eggs come from??

Spring, symbols of fertility, pagan traditions being adopted by the dominant religions to help convert those who were conquered.

Long answer is: Germany. It's an old German tradition of an egg laying hare that judged kids and brought them eggs candy or toys on Easter. Also in Germany many people would give up eggs for lent. Well to keep those uneaten eggs from spoiling they would roast or boil them. Then eat them on Easter. Somewhere along the line they would put flower petals in with the eggs boiling and that would color them. The colors got more and more elaborate until the Russian royal family , being batshit crazy and stupid rich, went so far as to decorate eggs with actual jewels making those eggs crazy expensive today. The short answer is: shut up and eat your chocolate egg heathen.

The rabbit lives three years and can't make moral mistakes, so yeah. And then the egg represents rebirth.

Jesus had a pet rabbit.

The stone covering Jesus' tomb was egg shaped. No clue about the rabbit though.

Probably some old spring rites that existed long before Christianity did
