Would you like to buy blue or purple engrams from the Cryptarch?
As it is right now, the best engram you can buy from the Cryptarch is a green uncommon one. Why can't we buy blue rare engrams and maybe an occasional purple legendary? Maybe if you hit level 15 or 20 with the Cryptarch, you could buy a blue rare engram and at level 25 or 30, have one day a week or so the Cryptarch would sell a purple legendary engram. It is just an idea. It would make him more useful outside of just decoding our engrams all the time. Bump if you agree and let me know what you think. No trolls please.
Edit: Naturally, the legendary engrams would have to be kinda expensive and you couldn't buy a bunch of them at a time. I believe the green uncommon engrams are about 250 glimmer. Maybe the blue rare engrams could cost 1000 glimmer and the legendary ones could cost around 10,000 glimmer? I know Bungie likes us to keep grinding and this would definitely encourage most of the Destiny community to grind extra for those engrams.
Edit #2- I just got off Destiny and found that the green uncommon engram is 450 so I was wrong. What a waste! Anyways, thanks for all the support so far. Let's keep it coming!
Edit #3- I have seen a couple of good ideas for the other vendors as well. If you guys have any ideas for other vendors or improvements to my idea with the Cryptarch, post your ideas! Thanks again for the support! Maybe Bungie will see this and consider some of these ideas for a future update! Bump so they can see this!
Final Edit- Wow! I wasn't expecting this amount of feedback on this topic! You guys have some great ideas! Good to see the Destiny community can still talk about ideas for the game without constant trolling. Maybe Bungie can be as creative when it comes to improving the vendors at the tower. 15 RepliesFor blues, 4500-6000+ glimmer, randomized stats, per usual. Purples, 15,000-20,000 glimmer, OR 15,000 glimmer+2 ascendants? Maybe have him offer purples in exchange for 6-8 ascendants? Additionally, make blues only sold for rank 3+ and purples for rank 8+. An idea I had for a vendor: A wandering merchant (perhaps another of the Nine, like Xur?) who will appear in one of several random locations for only 2 hours each day. However, the locations are random [i]across all planets.[/i] He offers weapon and item perks. You pay glimmer and random materials (e.g. "Luck in the Chamber" - 10,000 glimmer, 2 ascendant shards, 2 ascendant energy, 25 *class item*), but the hitch is this: the perk you purchase [i]must[/i] replace [i]any[/i] other perk already on a weapon. So, you [i]could[/i] take a weapon (supposing you have the materials/glimmer) and replace every perk slot with "luck in the chamber," if you wanted, at the cost of having no damage increases, etc. Having him only appear at complete random with a random assortment of perks at [i]near random[/i] costs (they would be randomized in a range) would prevent people from effectively being able to farm for him. Also, Have a similar vendor (random location, random items, random cost) who lets you paint and modify the appearance of your weapons. E.g., he could have 5 colour options for sale one day, at random, and then 5 appearance items for your weapons - like the wierd knobs, laser pointers, etc., on hand cannons. Thoughts?

1 Replyif he sold blue engrams then there would be no need to level your player high enough to do raids. i could easily buy blue negrams get my self to 27-28 light and do VOG, strikes would be become useless.

Maybe not the cryptarch but the Vanguard/Crucible/Factions so that you can get a good roll on their weapons. MHO

If he sold legendary engrams for Marks, it would probably work. Put them at around 100 Marks and you would only be able to buy 1 per week per character, but you would be able to try for a certain weapon with different perks than the vendor versions. It would be an alternative to grinding the appropriate faction and hoping to get a weapon to drop with different perks.

I would say yes, but then it would become the next "Xur". People would complain about how the cryptarch doesn't sell heavy legendaries enough, or something to that effect.

A example inventory: 100 vanguard marks= 100 crucible marks 100 crucible marks= 100 vanguard marks 30 strange coins= 1 exotic engram 20 strange coins= a random legendary ship 10 strange coins= a random legendary shader 5 strange coins= a random legendary mark/ 5 motes of light= 1 strange coin bond/cloak 30 Ascendant mats= 1 exotic engram 10 green items= 1 blue engrams 10 blue items= 1 legendary engrams 15 legendary items= 1 exotic engram [i]* By items I mean anything of that tier of rarity[/i] When you exchange 10 blues for a legendary, for example, you can choose what type of engram you want, like primary or chest plate. The same with all engram tiers Edit1: You cannot exchange sparrows for engrams. Let me just clear that up right now Edit2: removed raid engrams after so great constructive criticism.

1 Replyblue engrams seem to drop like skittles for me. it's really not worth while anymore. Purple ones would be nice from time to time. though you can never guarantee getting anything good from them. Since all i'm after are exotics of some nature, yellow engrams would be better to guarantee more success of getting something good. Though for those not lucky enough to be in my position, i suppose being able to buy them would be better once again (if bungie would let you of course). think there are other things they'd rather give you than allowing legendary engrams to be bought.

Yes, because a blue would be more coins and motes which still serve a little purpose. But I wouldn't buy a purple, just useless shards.

I feel like you should be able to buy them from Xur instead of him selling ALL the Exotics... It would have been a much better alternative and it would have actually made Exotic weapons Exotic.

Sometimes you get blues from buying his greens. If you're way low level, sometimes they're really decent! But yeah, some kickass random stuff would be nice for a price.
