So, recently, IGN posed an interesting question during one of their Destiny Fireteam chats. "When should DLC Access be free?" The short answer is never. Here is an explanation of my thoughts that I posted in response to the question they posed. .. Some people have posed the thought that if they wait long enough, say waiting until this holiday season for instance, that the paid DLC should go free to play as it has been out for a long time at that point. I disagree whole-heartedly. DLC that was originally paid should never be free, even eventually. You don't pay, you don't play. That being said, there are ways to make it beneficial for people that aren't early adopters or aren't keen on purchasing something they're unsure of liking or not, while not alienating those that have already purchased the DLC in good faith, at full cost, or as part of a season pass. Want to get people on and expand(or refill) your user-base, but not alienate those people that buy DLC at launch (early adopters)? Here is my solution. Give it at least a 3 month window, then introduce a Free-To-Play weekend for those that don't have the DLC. Those that play during the FTP weekend and don't have the DLC already don't get their loot drops right away. The loot drops are, however, waiting in the post office and are unlocked if/when the DLC is purchased at full cost in the future. As always, these are just my thoughts and don't reflect any opinions from Bungie or IGN. Now, what do you, the Destiny faithful, think of my solution/work around for the topic of paid DLC becoming free?
