Optional Raid matchmaking

This would have been really helpful when starting out in Destiny. I am a level 30 that still hasn't been able to do a raid because I haven't been able to find enough friends online at the same time that wanted to do the Vault of Glass. After seeing this added to the weekly strikes I got my hopes up but was sorely disappointed. VoG matchmaking should be optional only because having people join in at random could be very problematic for a raid if a group isn't expecting a first timer to join them. This would be something I would like to see as well as a few others would to I'd assume and I would hope this will be addressed soon you, Bungie. If any one else feels the same, please say so.

I don't think you'd like it if they did. I understand ease of use, but if you've never done the raid, get in with a team that has that's willing to help you through. The last thing you'd want in a raid is to get matched with a bunch of randoms, without mics, no experience and improper gear, or even worse, the person that slacks and let's the team carry them just to get the gear. They'd have to implement a kick option of some kind, that wouldn't result in trolling and then of course there is the issue of checkpoints. They would need a system that matched those as well so people don't cut halfway through or get shafted out of running prior portions by getting dropped in further along. Its not the best introduction to that kind of content. The grass is always greener on the other side kind of issue. There is a bungie clan that's all about setting up sessions to teach the raids. Get together with them, you may meet some great people along the way. Or jump on the100.io and set up an account to get dropped instantly into a group of like-minded players. Then you're raiding with people repeatedly, and you can join public games posted on the site as well if you're group doesn't have a run set up during the time you want to play. This is your best bet. This site changed the way I play this game.

  • When raidmatchmaking, there should be a role distribution. A Leader. For beginners damage. Then another raid dependent role such as swordtails or relic carrier. Perhaps also co-leader so you can split the team in 3 people. Thus, each of the 3 other see the color name by highlighting and may follow depending on the situation when you have to guard multiple inputs in certain places or similar. Therefore many would simplify and only the leader may or must give some instructions via headset. Sorry for my bad English.

  • I agree every raid should have optional matchmaking. I find it semi annoying I have to go to a 3rd party website and post I am looking for Crota or Nightfalls every week. Posting on a 3rd party website you are looking for a group, or invite a bunch of people who posted they are looking for a group is really no different then in game matchmaking.

  • Agreed If there are people that dont want matchmaking they dont have to use it. Hence the term optional. Guess a lot of people who say no, dont understand what the word optional means.

  • My opinion? If youre too lazy to use one of the half dozen raid finding websites, i dont want to be in a team with you anyway. Make it optional and youll still never finish a raid, because the only people who use it are lazy idiots.

    • Honestly I think matchmaking in general should be a toggled control. for raids, strikes, even nightfall. I mean if you use matchmaking, you have to assume the possibilities of getting a rookie.

      • I totally agree with this. Raids really could use matchmaking. I've had so many promises of "yeah we'll do it with you" and it never happens. This means I can't get the stuff I need to upgrade my gear to reach lvl 32 (on lvl 31). So either put the stuff you need to upgrade your armour in the rest of the game as randoms, do matchmaking or put a notice board in the tower for people to put a team together

      • Optional being the key word. If they do what they have done with the weeklies it would ruin the game. There are plenty of people out there that run any level of player through raids, but if the choice is taken it will further kill this game. I personally looked forward to doing the Nightfalls and Weeklies as a solo player. That choice is now gone with the weeklies and I know longer look forward to them, they are done begrudgingly for the coins. If I had to get stuck in a raid or Nightfall with someone that wasn't present and accounted for, like it is the case so many Strikes and Weeklies now, why would you bother.

      • I would love this bbut it seems bungie no longer understands the meaning of "optional" just try to name 1 gamemode in destiny with both a private and a matchmaking mode

      • The thing is, from my expierence with the matchmade weeklys there's a lot of people that don't know what they're doing. They're using ineffective weapons/damage types and mote importantly rushing out and constantly dying. I have no problem with newcomers, but having someone who doesn't have a clue what to do in a complex raid will cause problems. I would highly recommend for you to try out DestinyLFG.com and communicate your situation so you can find others like you or veterans who want to help people understand what to do. Then you can start enjoying this part of Destiny's endgame. I'm not trying to be insulting, but I'm imagining trying to do a vault of glass run with the kind of people I get matched with in the weekly. Not fun. I don't mind inexperienced players, but people who just rush around with no strategy or sense of their surroundings cause problems sometimes.

        • Think of strikes. People AFK. People quit. People aren't good. It would be a disaster.

        • You know why I would have wanted optional matchmaking from the start? Cause I would have loved to go in not knowing WHAT the hell was going on and learning it myself, with everyone else... That would have been fun and that was impossible after a few weeks, when everyone who was raiding had experience and told you what to do. It was not as good as learning yourself. Raids going forward should not require a team. It should be easier with a team but not impossible. Kind of like Crota but as good as Vault of Glass. I would love to learn it fresh and on my own. Would have been much more fun going in green.
