Are Higher K/D Players More Respected than Lower K/D Players?

How do you feel about the credibility of a higher K/D players vs a player with a lower K/D? Should a players opinions and views be respected the same regardless of their K/D? Why should K/D be an indication for you to take a player seriously or not? Should it matter? What are you views on the matter? Discuss.

  • I think it's more about ranges and context. .5 and under= does not understand the mechanics of the game, or how to play it yet. .5-1= probably understands basic concepts and strats, usually a little unpolished with accuracy and advanced strats. +1.0= a working knowledge of the game. Can probably be better by either the right teammates, or a little practice with weak spots. Has the potential to be a formidable opponent on a good day. 1.5= probably a good bet to be a strong teammate. Has few weak spots, and knows what they are and how to mitigate them. 1.75= rock solid. Can carry a team. 2= lethal in any situation 2.5+= freaky good. But I think the big difference in these guys and your 1.5's and up is teammate selection. These guys are rarely seen alone. I only think of k/d as snap evaluation on a large population. Its not the only measure of a player. But it'll at least give you an idea of what to expect. I like to think mine would be a lot higher. I'd rather lose with my buddies than win with randoms.

    • Alright, I imagine I will ruffle someone's feathers here, but I am going to say it. No. Someone with a higher K/D ratio should not expect a higher amount of respect than someone with a lower one. But, that is not to say that the lower K/D gets it either. Respect is something that is earned, like trust. How can someone honestly say that they should be respected for a high K/D ratio if they constantly treat others with a total lack of said respect? Being knowledgable, helping out others (regardless of benefit to yourself), and being a decent human being is what earns my respect. But maybe that is just me. Anyway, keep your Lights strong Guardians.

      • Honestly I don't think K/D alone is a good indicator of how good a player is. I think Kills per Game and Score per Game are just as important. Those stats all in conjunction show how a player plays alongside whether they're good or not. You could have someone with a good K/D but low KpG or SpG, which shows that they prefer to hang back more than push and don't really pick up any kills worth additional points (Ex. Special kills, Super kills, etc.). Score per Game is more important for modes like Control though, since it's the game mode where you should have a high Score per Game if you're playing right.

            • Respected? I'm not sure abt respected. If you're talking in terms of, say, choosing a Trials team or something along those lines, then absolutely. KD means a lot more than people w. Shitty ones care to admit. Everything except Rumble is team based, & definitely requires cooperation to succeed in. but all in all, kills & deaths says everything. If you die more than you kill, you're just not a solid enough player. I really wouldn't even take any argument against that seriously ... Players w. Good KDs are the players that can balance out all aspects of each game mode, while getting more kills than deaths. I use LFG for Trials of Osiris every week. I've been flawless every week across my characters since the first ... The first 3 weeks I didn't check KDs, & had major issues finding solid teams. ever since I've started checking Trials KDs, I get the flawless first card. Every time. KD is the base statistic that shows how well you play in PvP. period. more-so than any other stat besides maybe W/L. but even then, that's super inaccurate for mostly solo players. With all that being said, only pvp I play is Trials. & my main has a 1.7 KD. not great, not bad. was 2.1 until I'd tried to help friends out on Thieves Den all weekend. 3v1 almost every round seriously puts a mean hurting on KD, & quick...it's real hard to get a solid one & establish it, but so easily can be destroyed by just a couple shit games.

            • K/D is for call of duty. Idk why everyone cares so much about it. I didn't know K/D was tracked and I let my siblings play crucible whenever I'm not on because of RNG and my K/D is kind of crap now

            • Most people I've seen with High K/Ds use Blink and a Shotgun. Obviously that isn't everyone, but it's a lot. I don't mind either by them selves cause I use shotguns too, but combined together it's a powerful combo.

              • It's more of a measure of how try-hard somebody is. I could have a much higher K/D, but that would be no fun. At all. I.E.- I recently went into Trials with a full fireteam using last words, without perfect balance and 1 sensitivity. Guess how our K/Ds were?

              • I don't understand how anyone can have a KD below like a 1.5.... I mean 1.5 is around the KD I get when I'm just playing around with random setups and stuff, but there's people out there who's KD is that when they're actually trying hard with thorn and stuff lol

                • In regards to balance in a PvP context, if you can't break a positive KD I don't see you as having a relevant opinion. Aside from that, I don't really care.

                • My K/D is 1.0 and .9 on my other 2 characters. I have played with my teammates who play less aggressive than me and their K/D range well above 1.5 to 2.3 and I do either as good as them and better when playing Osiris. I am a very aggressive player and I don't care much if I die. But I can't simple stay camping or covering all the time. I guess you could say I'm an idiot for going all out lol. Osiris I got 16 kills in one game with a 9.0 K/D (Warlock) as well as other trials. I have so far done trials and gone flawless 3 times a week minus this week didn't get to play much. K/D is stupid. I personally think it's just how the player plays and you can't judge by it till you see the way they play.

So... I play hockey, and I went to a D1 school, but I didn't play on the D1 team. I was no where near good enough to play division 1 hockey, but it was a good engineering school and thats the reason I went. Now, I did happen to have some friends on the team and they were very good. It was like we weren't even playing the same game. And I respected the fact they were very good at hockey. And I listened to them if they gave me advice about my shot or stride... but they couldn't really articulate the fundamentals well... they just naturally knew how to do things, but maybe couldn't explain it all the time. And then when it came to things that weren't hockey, again we weren't in the same league. I was an engineering major, they were in the school of management. I wouldn't ask them for their advice on the DiffEq final... Anyway, the best coach I knew was a middle age, swedish woman. She couldn't play D1 hockey either, but she probably knew the game more than any one of the D1 players. So does being good at the game make you the most knowledgeable about the game, maybe, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. Does being bad make you ignorant of the game, maybe, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. But the thing that is always true is that you can't know by looking at a single number.

                    • Respect comes in all forms. That be said, someone capable of holding a controller well is not nearly as fun to play with as someone capable of holding a conversation well. Just look at the so called "best" players that are so good people willingly watch them stare at a screen on Twitch. Nearly all of them don't have as much respect as those that share information or entertain with something other than a "9-0 win streak" that is really 7-4 but "those didn't count and I reported them"
