Iron Banner Tips

Hi everyone, Wanted to take a moment to list a few things that many people already know, but many others don't. When it comes to the iron banner, keep some of these in mind for maximum fun and success for you and your team: First and foremost: group up with likeminded players that you can have a good time with. Having a good time during multiplayer means different things to different people. Some are all business, some are all about the laughs, some only have fun if people are playing with their A game and winning. Everyone is different, and none of these are right or wrong. You'll have the best time if you find people that share your outlook and play style. If someone's rubbing you the wrong way, it just might be who they are so try and find a different group if it gets bad! Bearing that in mind: 1. Be level 32, or as close as you can: unlike the normal Crucible, level matters specifically in Iron Banner, this will make the difference in whether or not you win a firefight against an opponent with near equal skill. 2. Use maxed weapons: weapon level also matters in Iron Banner and can dictate the outcome of matches. Additionally, look for weapons with damage, stability and range stat rolls. Vendor, engram and Mail package weapons tend to have more effective multiplayer stats than raid weapons. 3. Use your headset: if you're grouping up, take advantage of your new allies. If you need help taking or defending a point, call it out... But also announce when the skirmish is over so the team can spread out accordingly. 4. Die wisely: Tell your team how many enemies and what supers or weapons they may need to worry about if you go down, use your after death screen wisely. 5. Be constructive: if someone does something wrong, just like in raids it doesn't help anyone to be negative or dish blame for long. Just the facts in a positive matter will keep teams together longer so people can focus on the game instead of getting angry! 6. Kills matter as much as holding Control points: while holding more points than the other team matters, the score is also based on how many kills you get while holding those points. So don't just sit back and defend conservatively, play a little swing D to get your gun in the mix. Find the choke points the enemies need to get through to take your points so you can maximize your score for the win. 7. Have fun: laugh and talk about the good things you're doing, like when you own somebody or go on sprees and so on. Call teammates out on good moves and kills you saw them make, these vibes tend to catch on through the group and make everyone at ease, improving their gunplay. I hope this was helpful to some guardians out there!

  • Had a guy the other day forget number 7, I din't have my mic on and he was the only one who did on my team. Bastard kept screaming at the team to take a and b on Fields of glass (started on the c side), of course trying to help him got me killed ALOT and we lost, I finished with a .64 (cause i wasn't playing the way i liked) and got called a Noob, and worthless ect. I promptly Reported the guy for Language and such and blocked him, and marked him as an avoided player (I'm on 360). I'm not saying i'm a PvP ace or anything like that, I feel i'm decent, with terrible games, Decent ones, Great ones and ones where i'm just unstopable, however i don't fault someone for having a low KD in a match (I've seen some players dominate up to 3 or 4 games in a row, but then theirs that fifth game and they end up at the bottom of the pile) So I would Say Common courtesy should be on that list as well, don't fault someone for a low KD (unless you've played more than a dozen games with them and they are always on the bottom). I might complain (to myself as if i'm not in a fireteam i leave my mic off), but I don't scream and yell at them over the mic (thats a good way to end up never having any team-mates ever as everyone has "Blacklisted" you). Sometimes i have experienced a "Slump", where i can't get the scores i like personally. when that happens I switch games for a while (Control to Clash or Skirmish) for a few matches and a change of objectives/pace and that seems to bring my KD back up to where i like it again.

  • You forgot to add that 1) Red Death, Thorn and Last Word wreck. 2) Felwinter's Lie also wrecks. 3) Don't be that guy who wants all three points. Anything else?

    • Pro tip: don't hold out on turning in your bounties till the next day in hopes of catching that xp buff because doing that disables you from getting new bounties that day. Learned that the hard way a few minutes ago lol

    • Uh, levels and gun attack levels don't make any difference in iron banner. Do you even play it? As a level 32 you can be killed by a player several levels below you with a level 16 stranger's rifle. That's the truth.

      • U forgot to mention not to use any gun that worked before and just to use Thorn, Red Death or any crappy shotgun. Shadow Price - now terrible Vanquisher - now better than Shadow Price Silimar's Wrath - now hardly works at all Had to resort to Red Hand hand cannon to get kills Loved the last 4 Iron Banners -but this is poor Anomaly for Fick sake

      • 1) Being 32 doesn't matter as much as people think nor as much as it should. You don't want to be too low but it really boils down to skill and intelligence. 2) Again, this really doesn't matter that much (even though it should). I forgot I was in Iron Banner and put my Stranger's Rifle on and was destroying people. 3) No thanks. My random allies are idiots who can't and/or won't follow instructions (assuming they even opted into chat) anyways. That said, if you are in a fireteam then you really should be communicating. 4) Again, unless you are playing in a fireteam, this is likely going to be a fruitless endeavour. 5) If I am in a fireteam and we are doing that badly, I will probably leave sooner than later. 6) Yes and no. It really depends on the situation. Some maps it pays to be more aggressive and other maps you are much better off holding onto nodes once you have them. What you don't want is flipping the spawns to favour the other team. 7) I have fun by winning and/or doing well. It's really that simple. If you can have lots of fun while losing over and over, then I respect that but that just isn't me. I have yet to see a study that shows that being at ease improves your gunplay (it's probably more likely to be the opposite).

            • Levels are supposed to matter but there was a 27 hunter with the strangers rifle destroying 32s in one game. I thought anything more than a 3 level difference was supposed to be uncompetitive. But his Ttk was just the same as everyone elses

            • We started off with a great streak but then it all came crashing down when we started losing two in a row, then one guy left and we lost the game after. I only had time for one more game, and my team wanted to take a break. So I had to go solo, now I have 4 medallions to turn in. :(

                • Decent advice :) Also, if you are in a party of 4 or more, and everyone has defender titans, I recommend bubble train for maximum giggles.
