Trying Iron Banner for the First Time. Pro Tips?

Seeing as there really isn't much else to do anymore, I've decided to embrace the grind. I've only dabbled in IB before so I'm hoping some of you pros will drop some knowledge. What do you know now that you wish you'd known the first time? I'm always in the top 3 in crucible. How long can I expect to play before rank 5 (time or rounds)? Are there any less obvious ways to speed this up? Also, what kind of drop rates have you experienced for IB gear and exotics? Are you almost guaranteed either if you grind all the way to 5? Thanks for the help guardians! May RNG shower you with blessed, golden loot for your benevolence! Edit: Alright so this is mostly turning into control advice but I'll take what I can get. Any comments people can make on drop rates and time to max rank would be appreciated too! Keep it coming!

    1) The Iron Banner Emblem (either of them), Shader (either of them) and Class Armor Item each give 10% bonus (stacked) to all IB gains. 2) The tempered buff you purchase for 1 mote of light lasts 12 hours, can be repurchased again after that, and gives an increasing bonus amount over the course of the week. (always buy tempered before you start grinding matches, and make sure it is active before turning in bounties) 3) I'd suggest reading this from Bungie if you haven't: https://www.bungie.net/en/event/ironbanner 4) Now read this Reddit guide to this week's Iron Banner explaining all the math, and helping answer your question of how long it will take: http://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2zc4xb/guide_levelling_up_iron_banner_effectively_with/ 5) If you haven't figured it out yet, Wins award Rep, Losses award Iron Medallions that can be turned in for 80% the rep of a win. Your character can hold up to 5 Medallions before they are "wasted". 6) The same 6 bounties will be available every day. Even if you complete them, if you don't turn them in, you won't be able to get the next set. Each bounty is roughly equivalent to the XP from two wins (they are also a great way to level up gear quickly since they are 5k bounties). 7) Bring your best leveled weapons that fit your crucible play-style and have fun?

        - IB is control. Control = having control of 2 flags to win. Dont try scooping up the 3rd if you already have 2 that give you the advantage in regards of the map. Shores of Time - B&C. Snipe from C to B Rusted Lands - B&C. C is easily captured for its openness and Its easier to defend B looking towards A Blind Watch - B&C. Snipe from bottom floor close to C next to heavy ammo up through B towards the Door coming from A Firebase Delphi - A&B, Easier to control B from A side and to kill enemy players jumping through the window from C Twilight Gap is in my opinion the only map that is roughly the same for all 3 points. I prefer to hold A&C on this map. But they are all equal. - Equip the class item, shader, and emblem. - Complete bounties each day or as many as you can because they will not rollover if you dont. - Always buy the buff before starting if you know you will be playing more than 1 or 2 games. - Legendary Iron Banner weapons only drop after Rank 3 - IB weapons can be rerolled into better weapons if you are willing to take the risk. - Don't forget to grab the secluded Ghost in the Event portion of the tower because the only times to grab it are during Special Events when the doors are open

            • Don't get frustrated if you lose. Stick at it. Play with friends if you can, it's better. If you lone wolf it, try your best to keep it together if your team aren't very good and try to complete bounties if the loss is inevitable. Have fun.

Use either a shotgun, or the sniper rifle felwinter's lie, either way you instantly win. And get your thorn or the last word out, maybe an HMG.

It sounds like you already got all the basic prices of advice, so I'll skip that and go straight to drop rates and time to max rank, as you asked for. Drop rates are rough to speculate about, since it is good old RNG, but in the first Iron Banner I played in, I made it to rank 5 and out of every game I played, only had the fusion rifle drop, and the ship drop. The second iron banner I got two drops of the assault rifle after making it to rank 5. This time I got no drops, but wasn't able to grind to 5 due to an ISP outage. Iron Banner gear won't start dropping for you until rank 3, so the more you play after rank 3 the better chances you'll get one or more of the guns. This time around the drops are Felwinter's Lie (shotgun) and Gheleon's Demise (scout rifle), arguably two of the best guns in the game. If you grind to rank 4-5 and stop I'd say you can reasonably expect 1-2 drops of IB guns, but your experience may vary. As for time to max rank, this will vary depending on your skill level and who you get matched up with, obviously, but it shouldn't take you more than 2-3 nights of playing for a few hours. Make sure you always buy the tempered buff, and wear your Iron Banner class item, shader, and emblem for the reputation bonuses. These can all be purchased from Lord Saladin as you go, so if you don't have them already your grinding will be a bit slow at first. Today I played 7 games in a row and won 6 of them (got lucky with matchmaking), wearing my buff items, with Tempered on. I finished all of my bounties during those games, and after 6 wins, and turning in 6 bounties (w/ buffs active), I am about 1/4 of the way through Rank 2. If you're a decent player and get some good matchmaking, then you should have a similar experience. Also, the Tempered buff gets stronger each day, so if you play later in the week, you'll max your rank even faster. If you have any questions feel free to reply or PM me, and good luck out there! The Iron Banner is no place for mercy! Also, use whatever weapons you are comfortable with in Crucible, but make sure they are leveled up, preferably maxed out, but as long as they're at 300 Attack you should do fine. And equip your highest light level armor so you'll be 31 or 32, even if it isn't your favorite, looks or stat wise, because it will make a difference. Edit: Almost forgot, in answer to your drop rates question, if you grind to rank 5 the chances are very good of you getting at least one IB gun to drop. As for exotics, they are no more prevalent as drops than in regular Crucible, so you may get one but the chances are slim unless you play a TON of IB. I got a Hard Light last IB, and a Plan C in one a while back, but I played many many games, too.
