There is No Land Beyond the Darkness: A Destiny Fan-Fiction

The sharp ping of a sniper's round echoed through the valley. The crumpled remains of a bullet bounced off of the rusted aircraft's hull and rolled to the dreg's clawed feet. From this range, the shot probably didn't seem too intimidating. "You missed. Just wide left." Cayde-5's voice crackled into my ear. I quickly flicked up, and pulled the bolt on my rifle back. By the time I had my sights lined up again the dreg had taken cover behind a small boulder, but the top of it's head still peeked above the rock's ridge. Breathe in. My mind seemed to fill with the coolness of the wind. The sights fell naturally in their position above the dreg, my subconscious taking over and accounting for the pull of gravity. Breathe out. The rifle snapped into my shoulder as the round accelerated out. The back of the dreg's head blossomed out as his skull split at the front. His soul shrieked and sailed out of his corpse as he fell to the dust. The familiar sound of the bolt being pulled back and re-checked was the only interrupted by Cayde's vocal program simulating a whistle. The Hunter Vanguard mentor had snuck out to take some pot shots with me. He'd have to get his memory wiped again when he got back to the tower, but right now he seemed pretty content. "Shit kid. That's pushing 2 miles with some Old Age tech." I smiled. I'd found the rifle by fluke on a skeleton deep in the woods in Old Russia. The warlocks are fascinated by it; they often usher me into the Library to dissect as much information as they can from the old rifle. Between them and Banshee-44 constantly wanting to tinker with the weapon's design, I rarely have time to myself back in the city. "She shoots true. Hits like a truck when I can pull the shot off too." I said, peeling my eyes away from the gun's sights, and notched another tally on a nearby rock. 18 for me, 21 for Cayde-5. --------------------------------------------------- Hey everyone! So I'm thinking about writing little fan stories for each exotic weapon in my spare time. I love writing but am far from a published writer. This is something I put together in an hour or so on my mobile during a road trip. If it gets enough community notice, I'll certainly write more! Tell me what you think, and if you like the story give me an upvote! Edit: Thanks for the support everyone! I'm currently doing some lore work and mapping out another one. I enjoyed writing this and I get a huge kick out of you guys enjoying it too. Read my other works: Red Death
